Table speed

With new rails and Simonis 880 on a 9 foot Brunswick table. With a strong stroke, how many times should the cue ball travel from the Headrail to the footrail and back? Or what is the maximum number of rails I should be able to hit going around the table?

Well, first of all, you have to install the correct cushions on the Brunswick, and the Accufast are not the correct cushions to begin with, so I can't tell you how the WRONG cushions are suppose to play;)

That's interesting. I was just given advice to put accufast rails on my 9 ft Brunswick this morning by a "mechanic" who said he has worked on over 1000 tables and works on tables for tournament play. Accufast doesn't make K66 rails? What is the correct rail please? He said the job would cost $600. Is that a reasonable price for the best rail and recovering? And how many rails should you be able to hit with a strong stroke on a newly recovered, new rails, 9 ft Brunswick table, please? And how many head to foot rails? Or is that a bad question?

I just spoke to another Billiard Pro Shop that said Accufast are the best rails to replace the rubber on a 9ft Brunswick table.

Neither store has a clue. Glen is correct. Accufast cushions are k66 and Brunswick uses k55.

The fact that your "mechanic" told you that, is just proof that he don't know his ass from a hole in the ground, and he first needs to know what HE'S doing before he gives someone else advice about what cushions should be installed on a Brunswick! No, Accufast is not K55 cushions, which are the cushion profile designed to go on a Brunswick, and if he was ANY good at what he lays claim to, working on 1,000 tables...and so called TOURNAMENT tables...HE'D have KNOWN that. $6.00 is paying to much to someone that's a hack to work on your table, let alone $600!!!

Please don't argue with me on this, he's wrong, and anyone that says otherwise is also wrong....period!

So that no one else will get screwed by this "Billiard Pro Shop"...who are they so that I can call them and correct the information they're giving out???

He'll tell you rubbers that float on water are the best.
They have that displayed on a jar.

I called the Billiard Pro Shop again and spoke with the owner and he knew that AccuFast wouldn't work on most Brunswick Tables. I wasn't arguing, just telling you what I had been told. I am surprised that supposedly professional pool table mechanics, which all three of the people I spoke to earlier, would make such a basic error. The AccuFast are much more expensive, so they automatically recommend them, it seems. I just wonder if I hadn't said anything, if I would have been told they had put Accufast on my rails? It's becoming difficult to trust in my fellow man. Well, thanks for your replys. I have changed the bed cloth with Simonis a few times over the years without any noticeable problem but I haven't ever attempted to deal with replacing rail rubber or cloth. I have heard that is more difficult by far. I will shop around some more to try to find experienced people to do the rails.
Thanks

Does any kind of standard exist to measure table speed? Like golf has the stimpmeter for the speed of greens, does anything exist for pool? I'm guessing how many times it goes up and down the table isn't too accurate/consistent depending, on strength, stroke, rails etc.

Yep, I called them...and they really DON'T know shit...K55 cushions make the playing surface smaller on a GC3....but they really need to see what kind of cushions are on the rails before they can know for sure what kind they should put back on;)...and the alignment hump in the middle of the rails would have to be cut off in order to install the best cushions...(Accufast) for a lifetime warranty;) I asked them if they get on AZ billiards and their response was yes, all the time...so, I'm wondering if they read this...if they'll know it was ME that called them:grin:

Did you ask them how they cut the hump off a GC rail??
They must be top notch if they can cut that hump off a Brunswick rail

I just put rails on my GC3 that Donny from SD billiards built for me with artemis k66 intercontinental rubber and I used 860hr cloth. Starting at the head string I can consistently hit break speed and the cue ball will stop within an inch of the fifth rail at the foot spot. This rubber is amazing it's really hard to get the cue ball to jump no matter how hard you hit it but the table itself doesn't play what I would consider to be fast. Many people who have played on it now say the speed is just perfect. It's not like the ice level on super mario bros.

On my 8' GCII Artemis rubber 860HR. I get between 4 1/2 and 5 rails starting at the head spot. I can get 8-9 rails going around the table consistently. With 70% humidity.

If you want your table to play its best I suggest you talk to either Donny(SDBILLIARDS) Zach (REVEREND) Mark Gregory (PERFECTPOCKETZ)
He would be closest to you. But any of these guys will do you right. Unless another mechanic chimes in that can get the nod from these guys, they are your best bet. They know their stuff!
