TAD cue Question

I think tad cues will skyrocket in the few months great investment for buyer if you own one hold on to it! think Gus!!!
I have a couple Tads and only one of them dosent play so good, I have let a few other guys hit balls with it, one play is a pro he hated it to. The others I have are great, I used a plane Jane one for 3 years as a player. They are great cues in my top 5 favorite of all the cue makers out there. The finish on some of them is terrible, Tad was painting over the delrin butt cap and the laquor he uses dosent stick to it so it flakes off, 100% of it did, then I had Jerry Franklin of SW re-paint it, other than that they are a top cue. Also for all the wrong reasons I think they are a smart play interms of upside potential in price-especially the old Tads from the 70's, no matter what I would never sell mine.

Love Tad Shafts, I would give them 9.0 +.
I like the smaller butt diameter. Great for smaller hands.
Tad tips are incredibly hard and useless to me. I replaced with my usual Moori-soft.
Finish is as bad as anyone out there. I understand he still uses lacquer and he sprays the delron on cues too. He refinished it for me for free, but I had to pay shipping back and forth for his mistake, IMO.
I love my current Tad cue.
I own and expect Tad cues to make a serious jump in value for all but the low end "player" cues.

Do they only come in SS joints?
Please forgive me if I'm taking this thread in a different direction, but is Mr Kohara doing 100% of the cue building, and finishing in his shop to this day ( if it's not 100% I was wondering how much of the work is being done by Mr. Kohara )......I've heard his son is doing most of the work these days, and if thats the case does that affect the future values. I was interested in a plain player at one time, and passed because a fellow az member brought this information to my attention.....I'm not claiming the above mentioned as facts, and I thought this thread was an opportunity to hear from those in the know.....If anybody has accurate information, and my questions are way off base please respond so I can delete this post.....

However, I still own a fancy 8 pointer with Micarta (I think) joint and a big pin (3/8x12) that hits great with a lot of feedback. I also had a plane jane tad with Micarta 5/16x18 piloted joint and I liked it a lot.
Same as others, I think the main complaint about Tad are finish related. Finish over the wrap, finish over the delrin and just finish in general.

I dont have any first hand information on this, however I saw Tad at the BCA Trade Show last year here in Vegas and I dont think he is able to do much anything anymore, he was in a wheelchair and looked to be a bit to old to be doing much work-if any. I'm sad to report this but its what I saw, I wish it was different. I hope i'm wrong.

Tad made among others, a Harvey Martin style cue like this one I bought new from him in about 1982. I just had Ernie (Ginacue) refinish it because as all have said, his finish left something to be desired. I left the original wrap because it has such a nice old patina.
The hit remains solid as a rock.

No, they make different joints and use two different pins as well. I have hit with Tads that had stainless joint with 5/16 X 18 pin, Stainless joint with the big pin, and the phenolic joints with a big pin, Ive seen a handful of ivory jointed cues as well alhough they are rare.poolplayer2093 said:

I own 2 Tad cues and they both are sweet hitting cues! I agree with the lacquer finish being subpar! Lets remember, Tad has been building cues the same way for 40+ years! Lacquer is what they used back then, he is not going to change his ways now. A lot of the old school cue makers still use lacquer to finish their cues. I think Lacquer is subpar because it chips easy and yellows over time. The newer automotive finishes are much better. Thanks Larry

although these are for new ones you can find used ones or from other dealers for a couple of hundreds less
