On August 12, TAP relaunched their new web site. There were many new features added such as streaming video capabilities, league locators, live broadcasting with TAP founder and CEO, Loyd Schonter to name a few new features. Check us out at www.tapleague.com

Just curious, I noticed a situation where a rule came up and I was wondering if it was ever looked at being changed.

Player breaks, makes nothing. Opponent shoots, pockets the 9 ball and follows it in. This is counted as a complete and he is still stripes? How does that make sense?
 
TAP rules state a called ball and made shot, regardless if there is a scratch that follows, is a completed shot. Agree or disagree with the rules, that is how it is played in TAP.

Well, that's nuts. Just change the definition of "made shot" to clarify that there can be no foul.

I understand the rule, what I was asking is:

Has it ever been discussed to change that rule? (below seems like an excellent part B possibility.

So the goal is to polish a turd, just IMO. I'll be sure to join when I get so old that all I want to do is count balls. By the way, increasing from 10 to 200 is a 200 percent increase. Basically that would only give me 2 dollars. Be carefult throwing those numbers around.

That rule is a bit goofy.Similar to "bar rules" 8 ball but not quite that bad.A player could intentionaly foul to play safe,wich is ok.... but they can chose thier set on the same shot?

I know Tap around here has has the rep as a sandabaggers leauge but I think that may have come from 1 particular LO rather then a built in problem with the format.

The site looks good I will check it out.Also I will give the local LO some grief about that rule next time I see him :wink:
 
Are you guys freakin' serious? Really, how often does this come up? I've played TAP for about the last 5 years and it doesn't happen more than a handful of times in a year.

Does it really warrant being brought up on a thread where Sam is trying to promote a league that in turn promotes pool?

Start your own TAP-bashing thread and have at it.

Do you guys sorta see how you're promulgating the negativity around here?

Just for the record, its not like I was just randomly bashing TAP. I was at the TAP playoffs and hadnt heard that rule as TAP is new in our area and I wanted clarification. Is that ok with you?

I have gotten used to the bashing from the APA people on here. I did not bring that league up on my post. I simply said we are growing and we have a new web site up. But I expect it from them. No big deal. For the record, all of the new areas I sold for TAP are APA players wanting and looking for something better. That tells me alot. I personally wish the APA well. They bring players into the sport and eventually they gravitate to TAP. There is plenty of room for both leagues but most of them don't share the same views on this as I do.

D.Lewis....The rule has been in effect with TAP from the start and I do not see it changing. A called shot and ball was made before the scratch and that is how they rule it. The player then has that set of balls the entire game. Every league has their own rules that they play by and this is one of those with TAP. Exp.....BCA spots the 8 on the break where the majority of us learned the game as winning when you made the 8. APA slops balls in. (my opinion, the worst rule out there) But if players want to compete in these leagues then you play by the rules set for all. I played in many local leagues that had all sorts of crazy rules and I am sure most of you have in the past.
Every league is different and whichever one you choose to play in the main thing is a nice night out with friends, good competition and enjoyment of the game...Right?

One last thing that I want to add is that TAP offers Pool-Net and player modules free of charge to their members where they can go into Pool-Net and see their stats. Here is a example of a player's stats that shows overall performance and then breaks down every handicap this player played against. What other league offers this to their members? Certainly not the APA.

Actually increasing from 10 to 30 is a 200% increase. Still a good point. Numbers can be manipulated to make anything look good.

Years ago in the first gas crisis (1973). AAA would issue a weekend travel report on how many gas stations would be open. The first week the report was 84% would be closed and travel would be difficult. The next weekend the report was that travel would not be too bad as 1 out of 5 would be open. Not a big difference but sounded better than the prior week of 84% closed and saying 80% would be closed the following week.

I love playing in TAP at Marietta Billiards and don't see me changing. We have the best League Operator in Terry you'll find anywhere. He will do anything for you and besides that is one of the nicest people you'd ever wish to meet. I love the new website and TAP really appears to be going in the right direction.

Are there Rules that differ from other leagues, sure there are, does that make them wrong, of course not. Is any league perfect, I doubt it, is TAP going from strength to strength you better believe it.

Public forum, does that make sense? It was a thread about TAPs growth by someone who is either a league op or works directly for TAP. I think everyone would want to hear the answer to the questions posed. Sam had no problem answering the question, where is it your responsibility to say the question was not valid/necessary?

Ive also got 2 PMs from TAP players saying they've asked about having the rule changed and the people at TAP were not hearing any of it. I think my question and timing were both fine.

I think the detailed stats are great and generally, more power to TAP's effort to create more choice and competition.

But this rule still doesn't make any sense, especially the "before the scratch" language you just used. In the scenario at issue, the scratch occurs as part of the *very same shot* that makes the ball in the pocket. So there's no sense in saying that the scratch doesn't count since it occurred a second later.

By this logic, you should be able to win by making the 8-ball in the called pocket and scratching, so long as the 8-ball falls into the pocket before the cue ball scratches.
