TAR Podcast #14 with Shane Van Boening Now On YouTube

Enjoyed the podcast very much in spite of the fact that I was a little suspicious that Justin might decide to just chew the table in two for about the first half. I even liked having the two fellows standing behind them and enjoyed what they had to say as well as their facial reactions to what the others were saying. I think that seating/standing arrangement worked well, whether intended or not.

With the international players its just hard to contact them and set things up. That combined with limited availability in the U.S. makes it pretty hard to get a match to go. The new model make that a bit easier.

We would love to have Ronnie in a match.

How bout this business model/concept, international market.

Call it....

Cage Pool:OR??????????????

Make it where winner stays, loser goes home, weekly event. Do it like Tennis, 3 outta five sets with tiebreakers....

“COLORADO EXPRESS”
Single elimination:
Five minute break between sets
Sets….best 3 out of 5….Race to 2 or3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7, TD’s choice…
Lag for who breaks first set....then alternate breaker/racker
Alternate breaker for each set/Breaker never racks
Alternate racker for each set
Do this till match ends
Use Magic Rack
If both players are tied at two sets apiece, tiebreaker (like tennis) in effect. Then lag for break and alternate break with first breaker breaking one rack, then opponent breaks two, and two to other opponent till the end.
Final Match race to 9….must win by 2 games or first to 11.

TOURNAMENT
Finals could be played on two tables, side by side. Have racker rack the second table immediately after first tables rack is completed to speed up breaking of second rack of breakers turn at the table.
24 second shot clock, one 24 second extension

OK PoolSharkAllen, we get it. Repetition is the key. Tell Justin over & over that he's a turd & he'll begin to believe it. You chase him from thread to thread telling him he's an idiot. He'll begin to believe it eventually. At that very moment, he'll get weak & ask you for help & you'll put your masterful "marketing mind" in action.

IF ONLY HE WOULD ASK YOU FOR HELP...you'd have $100k pool matches coming out his a$$! ESPN will be begging for a mercy! Everyone will switch from golf & NASCAR to 1P & 10B streams.

IF ONLY HE WOULD ASK, RIGHT?!?!?

WHY CAN'T HE SEE THAT YOU ARE RIGHT HERE WAITING TO HELP!?!?!

THE GREATEST MARKETING MIND IN THE WORLD IS RIGHT HERE ON AZB READY TO HELP & JUSTIN CAN'T SEE IT!!!

FOR GOD'S SAKE JUSTIN, OPEN YOUR EYES!

p.s. I loved the podcast & Mark can gab all he wants IMO. He has knowledge of the industry that I love to hear...and a few solid opinions too.

Different strokes for different folks. Everyone has different tastes. Say what you want about Mark but no one I know has as much enthusiasm for the game as he does and he puts his time and money where his mouth is.

I love Mark's enthusiasm also! He is funny and it is all natural.

It is the Mark and Justin show!

Lets do this point by point since you want to help.

Shane had a chair and a mic. I set it up before he got there. I had no clue anyone else was coming. Next time I'll set up seating and mics for eight just in case.

The camera was zoomed out when I had the chance. Thats why you could see Shane.

As for actively engaging the people who came in I dont know how much more actively I could engage them besides what I did. Maybe hugs next time.

If you are not interested in the content of the podcast why would you watch it in the first place? There are lots of podcasts I don't watch.

Mark can interrupt whoever the hell he wants as far as I am concerned though several times I joked with him to let Shane talk. A shock collar would probably be good for that issue though. We'll fit him up with one next week.

For the final point....no I wouldn't run a podcast without Mark. I probably would have stopped them after the first couple if he wasn't here.

Thanks for your help. Tune in next week when we will hopefully have eight unexpected drop in guests in surround sound and wide screen for me to shock Mark out of interrupting.

Point by point works for me!

You don't need seating for eight when you only have five people. You need seating for five. Standing up for an hour isn't the most comfortable thing in the world. Having enough mics works so you don't have to wait to pass one around, try to hear what someone is saying, not being sure if they're heard etc. is always more efficient.

I saw you zoom out for Shane, didn't miss that one.

Actively engaging includes: introducing people who are on your set, maybe talking about why they are there, who they are, etc. Getting some feedback from them on some of the topics you're covering. Hugs work too.

I normally don't watch your podcasts unless the players are there to talk, not that I don't like your podcasts. I just prefer to hear from the pro's-there's a lot to learn from them.

I'm not suggesting you run podcasts without Mark. I'm just giving suggestions that would help them. Whether or not you think my observations are correct, there is always room for improvement and what I said are just some things that would really help, simply based on what I've seen the last couple of years.

Mark, I apologize for the old man comment. It was, like Justin said, uncivil. I know you are affluent in the pool world, and i'm not taking away from the fact that you've earned the right to say a few things. I just know that interrupting Shane when he's directly asked a question and understanding when silence is golden-is golden.

The only thing I don't like about the Podcasts is they're recorded when I'm out for FB Thursdays at my local hall. That means I usually have to wait until Friday or Saturday to watch them.

The conversations are something I look forward to all week, no matter what's being discussed. You get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes, not filtered for a forum. It's the one chance I get to at least listen to a discussion about pool.

Mark whatever you do, don't change a thing. Interrupt. Please. More Alaska stories. The way you and Justin chat with one other is great. Don't let trolls dissuade you.

Guess you missed the part where Mark introduced the guys and said their names. As for why they were there...we didnt know why they were there. I guess because Shane asked them. You should start a thread and call him out for not announcing why they were there. What part of "We didnt know they were coming" do you not understand?

For whatever reason you seem fixated on the fact that two drop in guests didnt have chairs. This place is ate up with chairs if they wanted one there were ten within eight feet of them. I think you should email them and tell them how dumb they are for not getting a chair when surrounded by the beautiful chair bounty that is our location.

Can you just run the camera 24/7 in the TAR studio. The potential for a new reality show is already there...

evanlockhart: "Wednesday they serve fishsticks. Of course, there are supposed to be 8 fishsticks. I only have 4 fishsticks."

<sound of knife cutting onto plate with one swipe>

Justin of TAR: "There you go, Evan, 8 fishsticks."

-Sean <-- looking forward to the ComplainMan sequel
