TAR Podcast #22 with Archer and Bustamante. Any Questions?

1. Who is the toughest UNKNOWN player they've played that us fans may not have heard of?

2. What opponent's game was the most surprisingly good or unorthodox that they've faced?

3. When they finally decide to retire or at least semi-retire....will they consider becoming instructors?

4. Would they ever be willing to allow someone to film them day-to-day.....as part of a honest, serious documentary/reality program? Something that would show not only their life as a pool player, but the man behind the cue.

What stood out to me was the speed of JA's game. Made the match easy to watch. Does he feel this helped his performance?

Not only did Archer's speed help him in the match, within the match itself when Archer slowed down at times you could see it negatively affected his capabilities compared to his quicker paced play where he simply played with more confidence and authority and a far smoother "flow" to his game.

since both players are pretty renowned for being big action players throughout their careers, i think it would be interesting to know what the biggest amount either of them has ever played for, who it was against, and what the weight was if any. and obviously, who won!

Ask Johnny if he has any regrets in taking so long to do a TAR match and if he is upset that Busty's picture is on the wall of fame next to the table while his is not?

All the pictures on the wall are of people who played in TAR matches previous to us opening the studio. I went through and just picked the best photos I had for the pictures. Some guys I just don't have any good photos of. Since Johnny played his first TAR match a week ago he will get his spot as soon as I dust off my still camera and get a good shot.

I have watched the previous podcasts, where you and Mark have been very clear and vocal about what you think of ABP.

However, in #21 you guys let Johnny too easy of the hook and didn't really confront him with the issue, ABP was mentioned, but you obviously had too much respect for JA to really say what you mean.

I was hoping you could push a bit further, there is obviously a lot of history involving CW vs Mark G here. A good start would be to ask Django how he feels about seeing his own name on the list of players who are a member in ABP and supporting the organisation. I believe he has no idea how he ended up on that list :D. Perhaps JA can enlighten us about that.

I think I was fair with Johnny about the ABP thing and he was fair in his answer. Johnny as much said the ABP was put together for the US Open 9 Ball and the late pay issues. He admitted some things could of been done better and some things he thinks would be done different if given the chance to do them again. I don't see any need to keep picking at something that for the most part is old business and put to rest.

I do not expect Johnny to speak for Charlie Williams and I wouldn't ask him to. Johnny is here to compete and I think to keep harping on poltics before a big match would be poor form.

Questions for both players...

1) If you were to start your life over, would you still pursue professional pool?

2) Outside of all the scams, what did you honestly think of the IPT tournaments (8-ball, slow cloth, round robin format, dress code, etc.)?

3) What do you think about 8-ball using 21 balls (instead of 15) as a new 8-ball game for the pros?

4) Generally when you cinch shots, do you hit the shot with outside english or do you mainly use center ball?

Questions.

First,,,thanks for the opportunity to ask; even if the questions are not chosen it is a great way to get answers for the fans.

1 - Does either player rate anybody from OUTSIDE of Europe, Asia and America?
2 - Has either player tried 3 cushion and what are their thoughts or what is their speed?
3 - How much credit does Francisco give to Jose Parica for 'paving the way'?
4 - Would Johnny play doubles with Earl as a partner for big dollars?

Thanks again.

There's always discussion about how to fix pool in the US, but I would ask Bustamante's take on how he interprets the problem and the possible solutions, coming from the perspective of someone native to a country where pool has seemingly always thrived.

Beyond the Philippines embracing gambling much more so than America, what other factors does he think allows pool to thrive there and not here?

Along these lines, does Bustamante think Bonus Ball could be the answer in the US? Does he think that it could gain popularity in other countries? Could it be a good money game?

For Archer:
A lot of the old pool crowd is dismissive of Bonus Ball, but I played some with some friends the other day, and it's a real decent game. Fast paced, challenging, fun.

My issues are with the marketing of it -- who thought to make the balls Purple and Orange and why?

Personally, I think it's a little gaudy along with the scoreboard. That's what turns me off. If it were me, I would design a much simpler, more elegant scoreboard (and get someone to develop and release an app for phones or tablets that takes the place of it, and make a couple bucks off those that won't buy a set). I would also either substitute the purple and orange for colors that are more conservative (maybe red and blue for America), or have each home team have team colored ball sets.

Usually he is a good sport about the lint, so with that being said, was there ever a time he regretted not picking a piece of lint? Causing him to miss an important shot?

And also what was his most memoriable missed shot that he's ever had.

how often do they use back hand english an is there a certain shot they use it on or have too use it on

I'd like to ask Johnny about the time he snapped his cue playing Tony Robles. What was so special about that miss, and are you able to look back and learn from that experience?

For both players: Did you adapt to competing well with your heart racing, or does that eventually fade with experience?

Great job Jcin, thanks for all the feeds!

Busty: Many times on your last stroke,I've seen you pull the cue tip way past your bridge hand and then rubbing your index finger on the way to striking the cue ball. I've also seen your cue tip "raking" the surface of the rail underneath your bridge hand on some rail shots.

Has this ever contributed to an error of any significance?
Have you ever sharked yourself because of this?

Archer: What is your opinion (pros -cons) on the current 10 ball rules/format on TAR? Do you support the 2/3 to 25? Or favor the long sets to 100 or?

Thanx in advance.
