TAR Podcast #8 with Shane Van Boening Tonight at 9 PM Est. Any Questions for SVB?

for Shane

Please tell us you will never play Earl again (outside of drawing him in a tournament)

Great questions guys please keep them coming. This may be a long podcast but I think it should be pretty interesting. Francisco and crew are due in the studio sometime around the scheduled podcast. If he makes it in time we'll get him in on the action.

Which of the Chinese players would give you the most trouble playing 10 ball?

Ice fishing or pool?

I heard somewhere that he started out playing in leagues...is that true? Either way, what's his take on the various leagues and how can they potentially help (or hurt) the game as a whole?

Any chance he'd match up in a long BB race of 8 Ball? Who would he like to clip?

Justin, can you turn Shane's mic up? He talks very low and I for one have trouble hearing him. Johnnyt

Please ask him how he feels about a tournament that had a 1,000 entry fee limited to 32 players, or something similar in format. I believe it would benefit the pros to have more events that were truly pro events. And not just opens with pros attending.

? for Shane and Busty. Do you find yourself NOT going for the bank-shot as much as a few years ago with the under 4 1/2" pockets for most top pro match-ups today? Johnnyt

I gotta question for Shane:

Ask him when he thinks TAR will be stocked with new action match videos from the past??? ;)

Shane, would you consider playing a "FiSH" on TAR giving big weight?

I would like to know what either of them think about how they would fare playing their "current" game if they were transported back into the days of Mosconi, Lassiter, etc. and had to compete with them on the old-school equipment.

JCIN, I know Shane said on the last podcast he did that barbox 8-ball was his favorite game.

Can you ask him what he thinks 8-ball on a 9-foot Diamond with 4 1/8th inch pockets like the TAR table or on one of the upcomming 10-foot Diamonds with the same 4 1/8th in pockets would be like as the main professional game?

Mostly in terms of

A) Would 8-ball on a table like that challenge the top pro players such that it would not be a simple runout-fest?

B) Would 8-ball on a table like that allow for the more skilled players to win a large majoritty of the time in a race to 11 alternate break?

C) What is his opinion on the potential fan interest of 8-ball played on tough conditions like that with the use of a 45 second shot clock?

I am interested to hear what he thinks. I know he played in the IPT and while that tour had a really odd round robin format at the end of the day the top players in the world at that time seemed to be there at the end of each event while all the lesser players were long gone. Even in those short races the top players prevailed.

Did you get out pheasant hunting this season? If so, where do you like to go and how did you do?

Only gripe I have is you have GOT to let these guys chat more. I know busty had just got in but he looked like he was down for it and it would have been great to just listen to them chat with one another.

I missed how Shane said he aims? I just caught the tall end of looking at the left side of his shaft.

That was the best podcast so far.Shane opened up a bit early and then busty showed up late.Humble guy. Those two telling stories together in the same interview would certainly be funny and entertaining.

he basically uses his own version of cte  i lol when he laughed and said something to the effect "what is ghost ball" all the anti cte members should watch this pod cast :)

he uses the left and right side of the ferrule and also center of it. He aims at the edges of the ob and uses feel to find the contact point from there is what i got out of it. So if its a cut to the left he will use the left side of the ferrule and line it up with a half tip right offset of the center axis of the cb (like cte/pro1) and aim at the right outer edge of the ob and use feel to find the contact point from there and he will go from left to center to right side of the ferrule depending on the left cut angle, this is what i understood.

it was also funny when he said he has a high run of 6 or 7 racks on a 9 footer in 9 ball, when i remember that thread on here when some guys claim they run over 10 racks lol and i got ragged on when i called bs!!!

I figured that the method I was taught this past year was similar, using the sides of the shaft along with the center and even breaking it down further to make balls. An example I give people is to set up a spot shot, put the cue ball in the kitchen 1 diamond from the side rail and 2 diamonds up from the end rail. This should be center of the shaft to the edge of the object ball, obviously its the left side of the ball of if your cutting it to the right and the right side of the ball if your cutting it to the left. On this shot your shooting straight through the middle of the cue ball.
