Aloha Jay,
I have you appointed you as "our spokesman" since you know and have played with both.
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
All I want is a free seat to the live show for thinking it up.
I'm quite sure there are other people on here who "know people, who know people, etc."
I think it is like the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Somebody that knows somebody, who knows somebody, etc can make this happen.
I'll be waiting.![]()
I've seen and played with both these guys. They are both competent players, low level B players (or high level amateurs). They are pretty evenly matched and it would be a great match-up if it could be arranged. I don't think either guy would mind playing if time allowed. And that's the big problem, getting these two guys together at the same place and time. They are both super busy with their respective careers.

Don't know if this was suggested earlier but how about a scotch doubles match, for example Shane & Joe vs. Dennis & Manny?
Don't lose sight of the Eye-mans original idea..Its really not all about pool..I doubt if a 'made for TV' presentation, would
garner much interest at all, if it were just another pool match...John Q Public has never even heard of SVB and Orcullo, and they probably won't even really care who wins the pool match between Joe and Manny, but they are the main draw !
The original concept, was to get two well known personalities together, who share a love for the game of pool.
I visualize it as being more about their background and life stories, with pool just filling in the blanks...We already know "just another pool match", will only attract us few hundred pool degenerates !..Lets shoot for the BIG numbers here.. The bigger it is, the more positive effect it will have on pool in general.

PS..The movie that did the most for pool, 'The Hustler', wasn't a success just because they showed a few trick shots, and pool matches...It was because of Newman, Gleason and Geo. C. Scott, and a very engrossing, well acted 'real life' story line !
Ya gotta have a hook, to get anyone to watch pool !..People get bored, watching guys shoot a bunch of 'straight ins'.![]()

If something like this were to go down, this is why I would like to see them having top level coaches on each of their sides.
Manny and Joe would be the draw...They would be the reason people would tune in.
Add in Say Shane coaching Joe and Orcullo coaching Manny and you capitalize on the star power that Manny and Joe bring.
It would captivate the audience and give them a reason to do more research into who these guys are...
Something like this could be the kick in the ass that pool needs.

IMHO, SVB does NOT have the personality or "charisma" to play to the TV screen. He has MORE than enough ability, but he is lacking in the "public relations" department.
Earl, on the other hand, is MADE for TV! He is totally unpredictable and LOVES to talk and excite the crowd, plus he is MORE than able to instruct whomever he is coaching.
The Efren/Pacquiao team draws the Philippine viewers and the Earl/Joe team draws the American and Western audience.
If you mention SVB's name, outside the pool world, NOBODY has a clue who he is, but Earl has been around long enough and won enough that his name is more recognizable.
Aloha.
P.S., I don't really care who plays who as long as pool gets more exposure, which is what it needs in order to stay alive as a competitive sport in the USA.
You make good points, but you already have the draw with the names Manny Pacquiao and Joe Rogan, you don't need recognition from the five additional people that would know who Earl is.
Now knowing that Joe did his Earl impersonation on youtube could cause there to be some added value to using Earl though.
At the same time though, I don't think you want big pool personalities when you already have the draw of the big names.
You use the draw that they create to generate serious interest in pool as a sport. I think you do that by having pool players that will be serious to Joe's antics,,,etc...
Now, if you were to have opposites do the coaching, THAT could work...
Have say, Alex Pagulayan coach Joe and Earl coach Manny...
THAT would be INTERESTING...
