im ordering felt for my 8ft table and i dont know what to get.. people reccomended the simonis 860.. i usually play 8 ball and 9 ball.. would this be a good cloth for me? hows it compare to the 760??

860 is a bit slower than the 760. 760 is usually reserved for carom, snooker tables etc.... or people who like a very, very fast cloth. If you are not used to the 860, it too will seem extremely fast to you at first compared to nap style cloths.
All in all, the 860 should wear better, and have a bit longer life than the 760.

I would post on the ask a mechanic thread. They might offer some other suggestions.

860

860 on an 8' table is about perfect as long as you get it stretched really good .

Simonis 860 is the silk of table cloth. It is very fast, especially when new and comes in a great selection of colors. You won't go wrong with this choice.
This cloth is the best in my opinion.

I agree

Rivercity is 100% correct. I have the orignal 860 I ordered for my table at home and it looks 98% and it was 7 years ago.

I have used others and honestly they arent as good.

Simonis is worth the extra bucks.

only thing is after 6 months or so it might have to be re stretched depending on location of the table IE basement or main level but its easy to work with just use the 3M 77 spray adhesive

My poolroom has 760 on all the tables. It is faster than 860, and I like it better. You can do more with the cueball on a faster cloth.
Another room I go to has 860 on all the tables. They spray the tables every day with that quick clean product. That makes them play about the same as the 760. But without that spray, they are a bit slower. They are both excellent choices though.

By the way, 760 is not used on billiard or snooker tables. It is too slow for billiard tables, and WAY too fast for snooker tables. Snooker tables have very thick cloth on them.

Simonis 300 is designed for and better choice for carom tables.

I love Simonis 860. It's the only cloth I would ever have on a pool table.

And most customers I have had that put it on loved it. And not just because of how it played. They all felt it looked better than the regular cloth.

I've used other cloths too. But many of them have a lot of strecth to it and will play much different than Simonis. Granito isn't that bad of a choice but I think it's about the same price as Simonis anyways.

860 vs 760

Metallic and readers,

I would like to add that Simonis 860 is a very consistant cloth. Whenever and any place you play on it, the speed of the cloth is the same.
And if you want a good price on the Siminos 860 cloth call Diamond Billiards. I foumd they sell it cheaper than anyone else. I can usual buy it for a 9 foot table for around $140.
Greg Sullivan (principle owner at Diamond Billiards) once told me he tested the speed of both cloths by dropping a ball down a 1'' incline. On the Simonis 860, the ball would roll something like 36-38 inches.
And then the ball rolled onto the 760 would travel 46 inches. (Don't quote me on those exact numbers) For many folks, this is too fast because when one enters a torney with 860 or similar speed cloth it takes some time to adjust.
Also, if you like the new bright blue color that you see at many of the torney's today, it is not available with the Simonis 760 (as of earlier this year).

Hope that helps,
Best Regards,
Hal

Have you tried Championship Tour Edition? This is the best cloth in my opinion. Slightly faster then 860, but wears much better. Simonis cloth will get nicked-up much easier.

In fact, practiclly every jump shot or masse that I've attempted on the 860 results in a nick or small tear in the cloth, while the Tour Edition doesn't.

Champion 3030 vs 860

I was recently told that 3030 was just has good has 860, but would last a little longer. Has anyone had any experience with the 3030.
Thanks

you don't have to stretch the cloth "really good" for it to be perfect... there is nothing to be gained in over-stretching simonis. the best pool table mechanics actually install it a lot looser than most.

The tighter it is the better it plays as well as lasts longer so I have to dissagree with this, when mechanics install 860,760,3030 or any fast cloth loose it's because they cant work with it when it's tight.

i can understand your logic but i still think pulling on the cloth till you fingers turn white doesn't really have that much of an effect on the cloth itself... the guy from new york (al contay i think) did the tables for the us open for years and is considered by many to be the best in the world never put much muscle into getting the cloth super tight... i just figured he might know more about it than me. ;)
