This was a great show for me and an honor to display the pride of my cue collection in such esteemed company. There were world class cues and cases on all sides, quite literally a concentration of the best of the best.

My theme this year was "Why I Collect" and for those who stopped by to talk about my cues, I shared the stories that gave each such personal meaning.

Cues from left to right:

Andy & Vikki Gilbert (set of 2 cues)
Richard Chudy; RC3
Ron Haley
Pete Ohman (Quilt maple & Snakewood)
Bob Manzino
Art Cantando
Bob Meucci (Ivory and gold crown Jewel)
Lucky Hishinuma (Lucky's Cues)

Cases:
Joe Whitten (Ebony and Ivory)
Art Cantando (Tooled Equestrian)

Beautiful

That is one beautiful collection of cues. The cues that really drew my attention were the Lucky cues.I heard he was planning on making a line in his own name, I did not know he had started. They look in appearance like Black Boars.

Thanks for sharing photo's ! That Ebony on Ebony Cantando Box cue is AMAZING ! I went to the show last year in Vegas, hopefully it's coming back out West and to California next year. Dan

You Haley is one of the finest I have ever seen. I'm glad you had a great time over the weekend.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks very much for the kind words.

I agree the Lucky Cues are AMAZING. People were taking a 20X loop to the inlays and remarking at his precision...almost unparalleled precision. Though these cues were not offered for sale at the ICCS event, Lucky is selling new cues through me so feel free to inquire by PM.

I take every new cue I buy and shoot a "reference shot." The object ball is frozen to the center of the foot rail and the cue is placed on the head spot. I shoot the length of the table and try to cut the object ball into the corner pocket. My precision with any given cue gives me an idea of how I will play with that cue or how much adjustment will be required.

With Lucky's cue, I cut the ball in on the first stroke...on Johnny Archer's table 1 at Marietta Billiards. those pockets are tight and the Diamond shelf is deep! Nick Varner saw the shot and complimented so I set it up again and stroked it in a second time. What a thrill to make a couple tough shots in front of pool greatest. I'm astonished with Lucky's cues for their PLAYABILITY. But yes, many saw the awesome precision of his inlay work too.

Lucky admires Black Boar cues and has started his cue building in that style, but he will also credit masters like Ernie and Dennis Searing for his inspiration. Their work has shaped his technique.

What would you expect from one of Japan's biggest cue collectors who's Szamboti collection is on par with any in the world...he is building to a level that is beyond...at least in my opinion. Rodney Morris was shooting with one of Lucky's cues when he won the National 10 Ball title. These cues are for real.

Can you share?

I will take some clean shots and make a separate thread dedicated to Lucky Cues. I've asked Lucky to consider submitting an elaborate cue for ICCS membership consideration.

Standards to become so recognized are very high. Here is an example of a cue examined this year. Great work Jake!

Stylized camo design over an all ivory nose and butt sleeve with a fresh silver veneered floating point design. The bar has been raised and new cuemakers are answering.

Jake's design is just sick...i know he used Sterling Silver for the silver inlays and they are BLING! hope to see more pics. Love that cue!

Thanks Gian

Im sure i've never spoken with anyone as passionate about cues and collecting as you. Your take on the beauty of cues was a welcome sound and will likely play a major role in my future. You in my opinion are as true of a collector as one can be and the ICCS is lucky to have you.

Gian is one of the good (no great guys!) in the cue world. You always learn something when talking with him.

i actually took some decent pics this time and will post them soon. I'm going to have to start having you visit before cues go out!

PS, its not sterling, its .999

There were some great cues there. It was good to get to visit with old friends. Some I had not seen in many years. I was glad to see the show come close to home.
Will and the rest of the ICCS did a great job again.

That I'm looking forward to, do share those pics when you get a chance too. I do wish I could pop by everything you have a new work of art done up...would be an absolute pleasure to photograph them!

I knew there had to be a "big" Cantando somewhere in the world...wow! Glad to see you have a soft spot for Meucci Original cues. I started collecting Meuccis 18 years ago...still think they're pretty cool. Thanks for sharing...

I took these on Saturday.

Scott

Thanks for posting better pics Scott. Greenies coming your way. The point design Jake came up with seems unique to me. Truly creative and original.

In talking to him I got the sense this young cuemaker holds deep respect for those who elevated the craft to its present level. He has a good sense of history and I expect we will be seeing his sensitivity through design in many new and exciting ways.

For me the ICCS experience was greatly enhanced by Jake. While I was blown away by long time masters like Richard Black, and deeply impressed by superbly successful cues from other contemporary builders, I was filled with hope of the future at seeing Jake's work.
