I just wanted to take the time to first thank TAR (www.theactionreport.com) for the Young Guns Challenge held this past weekend. I don't think people realize that amount of work that goes into one of these events. I alone must have had a dozen emails & phone conversations with Justin to get the dates & format arranged. Chad & Justin really do a thankless job and aren't paid nearly enough for their time. Chad told me he has sacrificed his car (taking the seats out to fit all the TAR equipment in) & his job for pool. Justin is spending his days asking questions from the public on the PPV. You wouldn't believe the questions people ask & how they completely ignore the FAQ that Justin has setup to make things easy for people to watch pool in their own home. These guys are the future of pool & need everyone's support. They have mine for life.
Dan Tull - You couldn't ask for a better host. He built a stage for the TAR booth. Moved tables around, put up 3 sets up bleachers, curtains - it was a true first class atmosphere. I had made up some free T shirts to give out to the pool fans & just wanted Dan to be aware that I was going to bring them in to give away. His response was that he didn't care if I sold them. I didn't want to sell them but that shows what type of a guy he is - he wasn't concerned if someone was trying to make a buck and promoting pool in his room. JCIN has Bergman & Morra sign the cueball in use during the match. I saw JCIN try to pay for the cueball but Dan would not have it. Just another small token but shows you Dan Tull is a great guy.
John Morra - For an 18 year old, he has a great professional attitude about the game. This 'kid' is so nice & polite it is refreshing. Go to the DCC and see how most of the under 21 year old crowd act & it is almost deplorable. Not John Morra. Someone raised this man right & he knows how to act. I am sure he wasn't satisfied with his play but rarely ever showed it & kept getting out of the chair to accept the challenge. Afterwards he shook hands and said nice shooting. No ill will. I would 'go in' with John Morra anytime.
Lastly, Justin Bergman - Thanks for putting on a great show & being a great friend as well (along with helping to fill my pockets). Obviously, there is a big age difference and skill level between Justin & myself but that has never been a factor in our friendship. There are few pool players you can truly trust & Justin is one of them. Justin is always above board & even shys away from playing some players because he doesn't want people to even think that there could be business. He really wanted to show the pool world how he can play & he is happy that many now know his true skill. Hopefully others will want to step up & challenge this young champion.
To anyone that had a piece of the Young Gun Justin Bergman corporation, I hope you enjoyed the past weekend as much as I did. I am sure you did.
See everyone in Vegas. Make sure you come up and say hello.
