The AZ Room @ The Derby City Classic

Yo Willie, a sawbuck is $10, a double saw or a "double" is $20 not $40! I thought most folks steeped in pooldom knew this old slang. Dough was mailed today and thanks again for organizing. Looks like its going to happen unless 40% or more don't follow through. Very generous of Grady to do a one hour one pocket seminar. They don't call him the professor for nothing. You da man Grady!

I am so freaking jealous, I cant hardly read this thread anymore. I hope all you gave a great time. I wish I could be there.

Someone enlighten me as to where I should send my contribution. I must have overlooked it in the 223 posts thus far.. If Willie takes Paypal, I will pay that way and add a couple of bucks to cover the fees so he does not have to.

Peace, Joe

Just an open message to those who are contributing. As of now we have about $1300 pledged, none collected. There are 3 onepocket.org contributors so far (not counting myself and OHB).

There will be NO money collecting at the tournament. For those who haven't been, it will be a pool-fest, and none of us want to scurry around with change machine and accounting pad in hand - there's too much action to waste time on bookkeeping. In addition, the money for this will be disbursed up front - before the tournament even starts. Does anyone in their right mind want to wander around for 9 days trying to collect money from pool players????????????????????????????

I realize that there is only a short time til DCC, and that holidays are busy for everyone; but if you want to play, its time to take care of this. If there isn't enough money collected before DCC, then there is no private room (and I will return all contributions). While that may be no great loss - I for one am REALLY looking forward to it.

Just to sweeten the pot, we are working on some DYNAMITE appearances by a couple of very high profile professionals.

The question comes up about non-donating AZB'ers. I know there are some on tight budgets, some who don't want to play but would like to socialize. They won't be on the key check-out/playing privilege list; but shouldn't they be encouraged to come by and socialize anyway?????

Williebetmore are you going to post as you receive funds?

Since this is my first time at DCC can you guys tell me how far the hotel is from the airport, and does the hotel have a shuttle or are cabs available?

Thanks
Bora

The check is in the mail... dropped it off this morning!

I have yet to reserve my room (still need to work out some details), so I hope I can still find a room!!!

Are most people just going the last few days?

I was thinking about trying to make the whole thing, but money aside, my girlfriend would miss me too much and I'd use up quite a few vacation days.

I'm hearing mainly Wed - Sat from most people... do the one-pocket finals usually occur on Wed?

BCA Tourney @ DCC

It looks like I "may" be able to make it after all (maybe is the keyword) My former teammates are entering the BCA team event . The date for them is the 6th - 8th. I have been looking (and probably missing)for when the AZ room will open ?? so maybe I can get chance to meet a few of you guys while I am there
when does all this start happening ?? I will send you whatever money I can for the room as soon as I nail down all the details regarding who I am rooming with and if I am driving, who all is going with me to share expenses.

Ratchet - when is the cutoff date for pitching in on the room ??

Bora,
Yes, I'll post as funds are received:

Paying so far are girlwon1, SJM, Williebetmore, and RSB-Refugee.

The hotel is right next to the Louisville airport. If the hotel doesn't have a shuttle it will be a very short cab ride. Have a nice trip.

Ratchet,
Socializing is free; if you wish to play, drink (soda's), and eat (cheap crappy snacks) then it is a minimum $20 donation. As long as I receive your money before I go to Louisville (I think I'll go down that first Saturday just for the day) you're in. Good luck with the details.

Sam-man,
Check the DCC website (www.derbycityclassic.com) for exact times of events. In past years the one-pocket begins early in the week, but is not over until Friday night or Saturday morning (they try to git 'r done by Friday night). One-pocket will still be going on if you come Wednesday.

Arak,
Sorry, no Paypal. Also no bartering - you CANNOT trade your girlfriend, your old Cuetec cue, your lucky pocket chalk holder, or your Mark Tadd autographed cue ball (though you might send a picture of the girlfriend just in case - rules are made to be broken). See your PM for details. See you at DCC.

Don,

I dropped my check in the mail at lunch. See you next month.

WBM, I mailed mine out yesterday. I'm guessing the checks might take an extra day to get there since everyone is sending out xmas cards & gifts right now.

You said you'll go down for the day on Sat. I was just wondering is OHB going to be there on Fri for the grand opening or are we going to wait until Sat to open up? My flight won't get in until 10pm on Fri but if there's anything I can do or need to do on Fri night, just let me know.

I should be in by 3 Friday - BUT...............

I should be there by 3 pm Friday, Jan, 6th - BUT - I don't know about any grand opening.
I am just another member like everyone else.
By Friday Mike Maloney (who is doing us a favor by giving out the key) should have a list of members who have paid and have access to the room and the key. Anyone who takes the key is responsible for the room until it is turned over and recordered (on a board in the room) and that person would be responsible then. Grady's wife has offered to kind of keep an eye on things in the room and I think that would be great.
Timberly - When you get in and settled, check on the room. Maybe we will know a lot more by then.

Thanks, Tom

The grand opening reference was just my excitement coming through about the room & Derby in general. ;)

How many people would be interested in a raffle, winner to play Jeanette Lee a race to 7 or 9 (or straight pool to 100 or 150). Tickets could be sold for $20 to 20 people (maybe 30 max, but I would like to limit it to AZB'ers if possible). The pot could be split 75/25 between the winner and loser of the resulting match.

If there is enough interest I think it could be arranged. It's not a money making thing for AZB, but it would be a great opportunity for some lucky AZB'er to play a tough match (she NEVER lets up) and make a little cash in the bargain. We could also sit around and critcize the play of the lucky victim....er raffle winner. It also would help add to the diversity of the festivities.

If we could get Buddy Hall or George Breedlove; would people prefer to play the men in such a contest??

OBT,,, I'll be back home this weekend and get the money off to ya.

I think a lot of things may happen, once were there.

I like this idea and quite a few others we have heard but I think that events like this will all come together once we are all there. There might be a sign up board for members that want to buy a raffle chance to play various pros. You go up to a pro with a $100 bill and ask him/her to play an hour - You got a better shot than trying to prearrange something. Most of them don't have secretaries or rigid schedules.

OHB,
You are so right; with the state of pool nowadays, I figure most pro's would jump at a chance to make $300 in an hour or so - it's something more than minimum wage.:) :) Maybe we should shoot lower.

As you say, nobody entered in the tournament really knows their schedule in advance. It wouldn't hurt (and I wouldn't mind trying) to get a definite commitment from a pro on a tentative/approximate time for a match - with the understanding that we could do a little re-scheduling if the tournament schedule required it. I know that I could get a definite commitment from at least 2 well-known pro's. If I knew which pro the board favors, then I could start working on it in advance (or at the very least when the tournament starts). Just my $.02.
