The AzBilliards Action Challenge for Turning Stone

I shipped it all on Shane...not a great move, but I felt like it for missing
the b-side final.

Good luck, Dan

I got lucky on that last match, was gonna take the odds and Rodney.

I'm all in!

Shane wins, you're the man. Raj wins, its gonna be someone else!

Great contest no matter what, I really enjoyed it.

Bet around 725k on Raj and lost it all. :-)

I knew if I bet it all on Shane at best I would have had 2nd....decided to go for it all or nothing. Go big or go home!

Thanks for the new feature...it was fun.

-Patrick

And this will be the prize for the grand prize winner.

Mike

OK, gang. After getting home from the tourney, I had to take care of some family stuff that kept me busy.

I took the set of balls that go to the 1st place winner to Roger Long today to have them sprayed with a sealant so that the signatures don't rub off any more. He is going to run a test on another ball signed with a sharpie to make sure that there is no problem with the sealant.

2nd - 5th place prizes are...

2nd - Turning Stone XVIII Poster signed by Shane, Johnny, Ralf and Jennifer plus a one year subscription to Billiards Digest

3rd - Turning Stone XVIII Poster signed by Shane, Johnny, Ralf and Jennifer

4th - Turning Stone XVIII Poster signed by Shane, Johnny, Ralf and Jennifer

5th - One year subscription to Billiards Digest.

I will be sending PMs to all of the winners to get their mailing info.

Now for some questions and opinions on the game.

We "seeded" each match with 1000 points if there were no bets on a particular player. Enough? Too much? Would it make sense to seed every match with 1000 points on each player right off the bat?

I had some emails from users who said that they had bet on the wrong player and thought there should be some way to cancel a bet after it was placed. My concern is that a number of users canceling bets could really change odds in a way that shouldn't really be fair. How about if we just made the bet process a two step process where folks had to click a "do you really want to bet x points on player1?" sort of thing?

Any other thoughts on the game? I thought it was a success. We had over 4300 bets and just over 500 users who signed in at least once.

I definitely want to do it again soon. Would like to just make it a regular part of our real time scoring.

Very cool, I did not win anything but it was a blast betting on all the matches and I think it is a very cool way to promote pool stream viewership. I hope we get more of the AZB Action stuff for various events because it was quite fun.

Good fun, I'd do it again. It'd be nice to be able change bid values or retract a bid within a certain time, if possible.

The way you have it setup shouldn't affect the line at at all when a mistake is made. Just initially, but not when the line closes. Parimutuel betting was a great idea because it's lets us decide what the line is gonna be. We the players, manipulate the line up and down with our wagers til the window is closed...

The only flaw I see possible is if two guys are in together or a guys has two accounts. Bets huge just before line closes on what he thinks is the bad side. Then lay the other entire account on what he feels is the winner. With the new, manipulated line. This type of move would be done on lesser known matches where it was possible to sway the line all the way up to +3000 or so by simply placing one wager. The bigger volume matches would have little or no line movement, rendering the move I speak of useless....

What I just explained happens all the time still in sports betting.... These type of guys bet enormously high and are called "line movers"

Possible tweaks to the system....

A. Just have it blank, where there is no default name in box.... The player has to choose his side before wager can be placed....

B. Your choice of asking on a second page if this is what the player wants... This particular system is actually used on every online sportsbook I've ever used....

Mike, I made this mistake a number of times myself.... Never did I have the intention of moving the line or getting any type of advantage from it... I assumed the line would adjust accordingly once wager was removed... That is how parimutuel betting works right??? The line adjusts depending on the amount of action being laid on each side....

Tx again mike, alot of us really enjoyed it....

A number of us talked on the streams of adding a prize pool by putting in 10-20 bucks per player.... Pay out 5-10% of the field.... This would make for a great sweat....:D

If not, it could possibly be done by a trusted player from the action room.... The complete results would be needed to settle payouts, etc.....
