The Best Table I Ever Played On Is ....

The best table I ever played on is my 29 year old Gold Crown III, but it's only played that good since yesterday.

This week Glen, aka Realkingcobra, rebuilt my 29 year old Gold Crown III and made it my dream table. He narrowed the pockets by extending the subrails, changed the pocket angles, put on Artemis Intercontinental cushions and Simonis 760 Tournament Blue cloth and leveled the table as much as the slates allowed. The pockets are tight but fair, which is what I asked for. Some pics are below.

Finding a mechanic who really cares about his work is difficult - at least I've found it to be. I knew Glen's reputation and have been on his waiting list for a while but really didn't expect him to ever get to me. However, the stars were aligned last week. I found that his reputation is all true - this guy won't leave until it's the best that can be done with the table. In my case, with a GCIII in good shape, the best is just about perfect.

I feel like some average guy who needed a heart operation and Michael DeBakey flew in to do my surgery. Thank you Glen.

That is one fine looking have you have there. I also see Glen did more of his great work. Johnnyt

Looks very nice!!

Glen does very nice work.

Who the hell is Michael DeBakey, I'm too lazy to google him...

Beautiful table, Rich. It sure looks like it was worth the wait.

Those pockets look a little tougher than IBC or Red Shoes.

Wow!

Fantastic looking table! Very well kept.

I wish my future table was going to look or play 1/2 as good as that
table. :)

Great looking table! What did it cost to re-size the pockets?

I doubt that Glen would want me to quote his charges - I don't know all the factors that enter into them, and he could change them tomorrow. I'll just say I was very happy with the pricing.

From what I know about Glen he doesn't work on tables for the money, rather he does it for the satisfaction of a job done correctly. He put my Diamond together for less money then the table mechanics in Denver quoted me. The crazy thing was he drove 2 states out of his way and didn't even know me.

You're 100% right Rich;) who I choose to work for starts with the first conversation with that person, then what is it that person wants done...as I can even take a piece of crap table and turn it into a very good playing table...if I want to, it all depends on the customer...not the money;)

The corners are set at 4 3/8"ths and sides at 4 15/16"ths, so they're really as tight as they are perfect for the slate shelf and player;)

As most who know me, I don't really talk about what I charge for doing this kind of work as I feel like no two jobs are exactly the same, as no two customers are the same. I charge what I feel is fair, and leave it at that, but if the first thing a potential customer wants to talk about is the cost...I feel they contacted the wrong mechanic because you don't ask the doctor how much it's going to cost when you're sick do you....no, you find that out AFTER you're cured...then get sick again:D:D j/k

Glen

PS. Cost is secondary, the job...if I accept it...is always my main focus...as it always has to turn out like all the other jobs I do...and the last table I worked on...is always the best table I've ever worked on;)

I was lucky enough to have Glen relevel and recover my Connelly Ultimate about a month ago and I still cannot believe how wonderful the table plays. His workmanship and dedication to doing the job till it it is perfect speaks volumes about his true professional character. I have never seen anyone take more pride in their work.

Thought it's for billiard tables? To fast for pocket billiards. Am I wrong?

Billiard tables use Simonis 300 Rapide.

760 was my choice because I play mainly straight pool, and the faster cloth allows the balls to break more easily. It also requires a lighter touch with the cue, which I'd like to develop. I've had bad experience with 860 on my table - it became very slow. Now, it wouldn't have slowed up like that if Glen had installed it because he stretches the hell out of it. Still, I had a bad experience with 860. Also, my table is in a basement area which is more humid that the rest of the house.

The Simonis website says 760 is for "High-Speed play for Bank Pool, Straight Pool and One-Pocket." It says 860 was developed specifically for 9-ball. As I understand it, 860 is thicker than 760 and jumps better.

860 can be plenty fast when it's new, but it does have a tendency to slow up over time. You may be interested in this thread, which discusses 860 vs. 760:

Nice table and congrats. Glenn doesn't work on just anyone's table. There must have been something he liked about you. He is definitely worth the wait. Here's to another 29 years on your table. :woot:
