There was a tournament this past weekend in San Antonio Tx.
This was a Fast Eddies event with $1750 added. Obviously not the biggest in the nation, but for some important.
Charlie Bryant showed reluctantly as he and his family had taken a "hit" due the storm and Hurricane days prior in Houston. Nobody was hurt, but here was lots of damage.
The Hillbilly didn't want to go to the tournament, he wanted to stay with his family, but his wife convinced him that he had go and keep plugging. So, Charlie showed up just in time to get a call informing him his father had just suffered a Heart Attack back in the Carolinas.
Well, it almost seemed this was the straw that would break the Camel back when Charlie bowed his back and said a little prayer. He then explained how his dad { in his late 60"s} was a tough old bird and would pull through. This is when an expression came over his face I had never witnessed. It was a look of calm and ddetermination and he began to play and play he did.
Charlie won the tournament alright and plalyed some of the best pool I've seen him play in a while. I was impressed with that, but what impressed me more was how he did it. He was so calm and so determined. He was never distracted again. Just playing pool as if it was something he had no choice but to do it.
He did it too winning it in the finals against a very capable Sylver Ochoa. With all the distractions and trauma goin g on He maaged to come with it and pull it off almost as if he owed it to someone.
Charlie showed great HEART in the eyes of adversity and I for one was so impressed and proud of my friend.
