Watched The Hustler last Sunday for the 100th time and I'm ashamed to say that I caught something new. Something I never noticed before. The bartender is Jake Lamotta. The raging bull himself. I was totally surprised. Still a fantastic movie. Just as good as the first time I watched it . Question : not that I would ever want it but if they ever made a remake of The Hustler , who would you want cast in the movie? Affleck would make a good Fast Eddie. Just a thought. I nominate myself as Preacher :)
 
I like the statue of the goat legged demon playing the flute in the rich guys room while playing billiards
would buy one if I could find it

I believe thats supposed to be the one that signals armageddon
 
I dont think the movie should be remade. I feel some classic movies should be left alone. And The Hustler is one of them.

I have some original story ideas that involve elements and characters from The Hustler and COM that could make for a third movie in the story sequence. But that is something I work on occassionly just because I feel like there is at least one more story out there that ties up the legacy of fast eddie felson.
 
Matt Damon would be the best candidate to play Fast Eddie.
Ben Afleck with his toupee would not be a good Fast Eddie.
Btw, Jake is the oldest living ex-boxing champ . All that beating did not shorten his life.
 
There's just certain movies (classics) that no matter how many times you've seen it, you sit there and watch it like you NEVER seen it before!!!!!

The Hustler is one of them!

I think Leonardo DiCaprio would be a great fit for Fast Eddie. He has the look, voice & body
language to pull that role off, especially since Fast Eddie was a pool shooter from California.

Robert DeNiro would be a great fit as Bert...... George C. Scott's role.

Eddie's girlfriend (Sarah) would be perfect for Jennifer Lawrence.

Minnesota Fats........ that would have been the perfect fit for James Gandolfini (RIP)..
So my next pick would be Tom Hanks.........remember him in Perdition Road as the
machine gun mob hit man.......How about how he pulled off Walt Disney..........He has
the look and voical tone for Minnesota Fats. I can see Tom Hanks with a moustache
and smoking a cigarette while bantering with Leonardo DiCaprio during their matches........

Anyway, that's my line-up for the principal characters.......what'ya think.........and I'd get
Martin Scorcese to direct the film and the pool scenes would be high definition high speed.

Like previously mentioned I could definitely see Leonardo DiCaprio play Fast Eddie and Jennifer Lawrence as his girlfriend Sarah.

Edit: I could also see joseph gordon levitt as fast eddie

I don't like the idea of a remake, but I don't hate it either.
But if it were done, I personally think that they should cast some new " unknown" actors.
And, keep it filmed in black and white.
One of the best things about it is that certain grit and tension, and rawness, that would be lost with familiar faces and technicolor. I don't wanna see it turned into Fast and Furious or Mission Impossible.
 
COM was I'd say The Hustler, part 2 in a sense with the revival of fast Eddie. Thank God they passed on bringing George C. Scott's Burt Gordon character on board. That would if totally cheesed the movie in my opinion
 
The 3rd film in the hustler/color of money franchise should be an aged and wise Tom Cruise taking a younger teenage pool protege on the road. Someone relevant to todays youth. Not beiber. Maybe Robin dodson's son? Drake Bell? My kid used to watch Drake and Josh all the time. Hes a likeable character

Agree on Kilmer as Doc in Tombstone. "I'll be your hucklebury." Dynamite role for him.

I've always said, Roger Griffis would be perfect to play the fat man.

If there were to be a remake it should be COM. But this time actually follow the book. The movie was nothing like the book. Nothing, no Vince, no Balabushka, no Werewolves of London. Not a freakin' thing like the book.

In fact there's a part in Poolhall Junkies that seems to have come right out of the COM book.

Anyhoo, Gleason was perfect, Newman was perfect, Laurie was perfect, Scott was perfect, everybody in that film was perfect. You can't improve on perfection. As far as Ben Affleck goes, no ****ing way.

Well, the Hustler was just as bad for ignoring the book - they just HAD to put in
a preposterous soap opera love affair. And a suicide... Really?? And a bunch
more BS.
