The Hustlers, Season 1, Episode 6

Several episodes have shown Greg giving Jenn a hard time for shooting bad. I don't see how she can fade that. When I'm shooting bad in a league match, when it's not my turn I go stand away from everyone. The last thing I need to hear is "you shouldn't have scratched on that." :@)

The episode tonight was pretty good!

A couple things I noticed in the last few shows. Mike Dechaine is wearing a Snookers T-shirt when he is being interviewed on the side in the room with the red tables and on tonights show Scotty Simonetti was wearing a Castle T-shirt at the beginning of the episode. Cool to see them get the rooms they play out of some publicity:)

Also...next week Amy will be wearing a cheerleading outfit?! WTF! Hahah:grin:

Scott Simonetti plays out from Castle Billiards in East Rutherford NJ, not Ed Liddawi's room Sandcastle in Edison NJ. It's a common mistake.

I lost interest during the match between Scotti and Jennifer and didn't finish watching.

I'm the opposite. I can take the heat and usually view it as comedic relief. I know I messed up and they certainly can't be harder on me than I am on myself, so it lightens me up a bit.

I certainly understand the ire, but I'm just not that way. I can dish it out just as well as I can take it......especially if it's funny

Good episode.
FWIW I'm tired of Finnegan's gaudy ass cross dangling all the time.
Especially on a such a hypocrite!

I swear it gets bigger and brighter each week. By the final episode an actual human spray painted gold will be on it.

Stu

Hey SJM guest appearance!

It was great seeing Stu on it. He was in Chicago and I had lunch with him Wednesday and played pool with him at Red Shoes. Among other things, we talked about the show, but he did not mention that he was in it.

He was exactly the same on the show as he is whenever I see him. Great cameo!

I finally got to see another episode (I was busy the last couple of weeks playing poker) and it's fun to see people you know on television. I think they all do a credible job and I happen to like Finnegan (I know him the least personally) as the Godfather. He plays the part well.

I haven't always gotten along great with Mike Dechaine, but I like him on this show, that broad smile and knowing smirk work well here. Jennifer Barreta is a natural actress and the others play their parts capably as well.

Bottom line for me is I'm just glad to see a pool related show on mainstream TV. That has to be good for our sport and could well lead to other such shows in the future. All good from where I sit.

It was good to see my buddy Stu Mattana (a great poster on AZ) doing his thing with Jennifer. That damn camera always make you look bigger though. That's why all the leading ladies are usually thin.

Good point Jay, In the show, Mike Dechaine is actually one of the more likeable characters.

Far as I'm concerned, another enjoyable episode. The hour passed too quickly for me, always a sign of a good show.

You are right. I took a look at their facebook page and bam, right on it was the exact same logo from Scott's T-shirt! His story is a great one, I love seeing someone overcome obstacles to continue and do what they love and are good at. A lot of people could learn from his example:)

Ross, you're getting sleepy... sleepy... can barely hold your eyes open...

I'm going to count to 3 - and when you wake up, you're going to tell Amy to get the **** out and stay out.

You're going to tell her to get her shit and hit the asphalt post haste. You're going to tell Amy she's the problem and her overwhelming gingerness is making you miss...

Seriously though, I do love the show and will watch tonight.

great fun episode tonight !sorry but I like that amy character Mike D was playing with ross
!

what can I say that I haven't already - this show is excellent and just keeps getting better with every episode.Episode 6 was stocked up with all sorts of excellence.

The cameo by Stu (our very own SJM) was GREAT. I did know he and Jennifer play once a week for years. For the show to highlight that and bring in the influential people in the pool world, not normally in the spotlight (like Stu), right to the front is beyond words important and HUGE.

This aspect has never been touched on before. It is a gold mine of possibilities and endless storylines for a show like The Hustlers to tangent off into.

Mike Dechaine is "Pool Hollywood A-list" in terms of his on-screen presence and high caliber performance. He is comfortable in his demeanor and dialogue is as natural as can be. Even in his cut-away interview segments (no doubt prepared remarks) he is the most natural in his presentation (Jennifer and Gary running a close second).

The show has me cheering and calling out to the TV, during matches - I am completely engaged.

The editing is excellent - improvement along the six episodes shows shows the editing team is learning the sport and adapting/adjusting to pace and time limitations. In my opinion, a pool match for a prime time audience cannot be edited any better than it is here.

This is truly a show to behold and there is potential that is being tapped to make it a huge boost to our sport/industry. In the 21st century media market--there is not room for Color-of-Money-One-Time-Movie Lasting-Impressions. Today the market is looking for the next show immediately after the first finishes. A big Hollywood blockbuster fades into obscurity in a months time, but a running reality series can be relevant for years. It's a what have you done for me lately media market, and a show like the Hustlers, with it's running format of great pool action, engaging characters chasing their spots on "The List" is just what is needed to keep pool alive.

Bravo.
