The Jointed Cue

I just returned from another perfect day of Pool at The Jointed Cue ...

Pocket measurements were taken with a Dial Vernier Caliper ...

"Most" tables in the main room have 5" Pockets, as measured at the Jaws.

Table #10 (Master Ito's table) has 4.750" Pockets, as measured at the Jaws.

All (4) GC-IV's in the Tournament Room have 4.500" Pockets, as
measured at the Jaws.

I was surprised by your measurements- I would have bet a signed dollar (and lost) that 10 was the tightest- tighter than in the back. Maybe it's the cloth and the being out in the middle of the room and on display that makes it seem tighter...? I do "spit" more balls on 10 than I do in the back.

Would that be because you don't play on those 4 tables in the back that often?

I was surprised at Angel's measurements. He doesn't give out BAD info. He might pass someone else's bad info.. but Angels is always bankable.

Do you think April 28 and 29 will be in the 90s? That will effect the way the table will be playing. 150 sweaty pool players and no AIR.

Some info

The cloth used on #10 is Championship the rails are what make the table fast and a deep shelf is what makes that table so tight. Im still sure from our measurments they are all 1 shim and =4 3/4. Something else to remember about pockets on a pool table is the center of every pocket is the same so if there 5 or 4 3/4 and we aim at the center we shouldnt miss, now only if I can convince myself of that. Tom the dates are March 28th and 29th. One year I remember we had a very hot weekend like high 90's and it was unreal in there. That was when the Q only used the Swamp Cooler too. Hope to see all of you guys at the Tournament.

Wow. Talk about a hijacking! Lol. Thanks for all the info, guys! I really appreciate it!

blah blah and str8poolplayer, I'd love to meet up sometime, hang out, and play. I'm not that good, but it's always fun to play, practice, and learn. CaPoolFan, I already sent you a private message and really appreciate the invitation! I guess I'll be meeting some of you quite soon!

Cant wait Sean

Sean, give me a call before you decide to come and playsome I will introduce you to a great bunch of guys and the 1st Cheesburger is on me. I dont wanna wolf at anyone that has made a few comments on this post, but If the equipment is not that tough I hope to see you in the final 8 on Sun. of the Memorial Tournament here in a couple of weeks.:grin-square:

Sounds good! I think I'm headed out there on Monday. I'll call you for sure if I am. I appreciate the gesture! See you soon!

Wow. i could have sworn i'd heard someone say the the equipment at the jointed cue was pretty good.

the Jointed cue has GC 4's in the tournament room and 16 GC 2's and 3's in the front. the GC has for years been the standard of the industry.
Sorry Formula7, but here comes a REAL hijacking!

I have seen the "smaller pocket trend" coming for years. Seems to have started when room owners would shim one table in their room and that would be the action table. Then anybody who thought they were good would use that table. Then, it seems, everybody thought all pockets should be smaller, and here we are.
Problem is, we have no standard anymore. When my kids played soccer, the goal was the same size at every field. The better teams aren"t allowed to make the goals smaller. Same in basketball. The hoop is always 10' high - even for the taller teams. I don't yet believe that a smaller (altered by any someone) pocket makes a better table.

I believe our sport needs to decide once-and-for-all what size the pockets are to be and that's it! If it changes from the 5" that brunswick has dictated for years, then so be it... but let's pick a size and make them all the same..world wide.

Wish I was playing in this tournament coming up. I have a bass tournament in Oroville the same weekend. If I could've, I would have practiced up for it and played. The Memorial tournament is the most fun you can have in pool... Playing in a room with no walls separating the tables, everyone in the open watching... and Sunday with the nice view of the finals in the back room.. Lot's of fun.

Hey Dave

How are you, I hope all is well in CO. wish you could be here for the tournament it would be nice to see you. Hows the 1 pocket game coming along LOL. I still tell people thats the best $10 bucks I have ever spent. Dusty you forgot about the Billiard Tables (3) and 13 GC out front.

Jointed Cue

Anyone play there?

Yup. I play the B on Monday's and split practice time between there, Sac State Union, and Hard Times, though Hard Times more lately.

Look for the tall guy named Jon who repeatedly runs a bunch of balls and then comes up 2 feet short getting shape on the 8, misses the shot when he should play a safety and hands over an easy table to his opponent.

P.S. The Root Beer floats are pretty good too.

Number taken. Sweet! You and angel. I'll definitely make sure to give one of you or both of you a call whenever I am up there or headed that way!:thumbup::thumbup:

I may just have to head down there myself for the tournament. I very rarely play anymore the last few years, and it's been a few years since I've been to The Jointed Cue (never was a fan of the short race single elimination tournaments). I bet the place still hasn't changed a bit since I was last in there...lol.
