Because he RULED!

He did rule for quite some time. Jay, do you have any idea whether Jim still has the $20K, 1970's money, Bob Meucci cue? I have seen photos of it but never seen it in person.

Jim "King James" Rempe

He is living in a cabin on a lake somewhere enjoying a life of fishing from what I have heard. Below is one of 5 cues Dan Janes made for Jim. #003

Here is another photo of the King. He is holding a dealers case full of Joss cues. He was a friend and sold cues for dan Janes at the time. I believe the cues being held came out of the case he is holding.

I heard it got sold, but can't verify that.

Since Jay jumped in here...there's a popular Accu-stats match of Jim vs. a very youthful-looking Mika Immonen from '98 US Open. Jay does the commentary along with Nick Varner. You can tell how much respect he has for Jim's game.

Mika goes on to win 11-10. Jim pulls out a 1-9 kick combo with the bridge that's some definite highlight reel stuff.

Rempe was one of my favorite players in the Mid-90's. Seems like all the pool that was on ESPN had him on it or Varner. I taped all the matches and still have them...those were the days before propoolvideo and you tube :D

Hemicudas, the cue was sold, a good many years ago. to, IIRC, a guy in California for $18,000-$20,000. Jim told me himself that the cue cost $10,000 when he got it from Meucci.

That was a great match, that I believed decided 4th place. The hill-hill game was a classic too, with Mika getting out in style. I won't ruin it for you by telling you what happened. If you buy a DVD of this match, I get a toaster from Pat Fleming.

I GUARANTEE you it didn't cost Jimmy 10K. Probably nada! Part of his deal with Meucci, which lasted nearly his entire career.

> If you're talking about the Crown Jewels cue,it sold in 1989 for 17k,to a Japanese collector that walked 10 feet away and sold it to another Japanese man for 85k,and in full view of Rempe as well. This was the cue on the cover of the Meucci brochures in the late 80's.

I personally don't care what he's playing with,he's a HELL of a player. Tommy D.

great cue

jim and his wife used to come stay at my house in rochester in the early 80s. i took him fishing for days at a time, he loved to catch trout and salmon just like larry hubbard and mike the mouth......anyway.....he would bring the king james cue and when he walked in the door of my house i would tell him....take it upstairs and hide it where ever you want, i dont even want to know where it is! it was the most beautiful cue i ever saw though and he said it had a great hit and feel...

I have a tape of that match and it was exciting. Jim played great, but Mika squeaked by at the end and I enjoyed the commentary also Jay.

I wish I'd taken more notice of his cue when I played The King back in '89. I was too busy watching the balls disappearing from the table! A very short & very sweet lesson!! Hard to believe my fondest pool memory is of me getting my backside kicked!

Thanks for saying so.

I second the sentiments on your commentating, Jay :), of all the pool commentators that I've heard, Yourself, Jerry Forsythe and Danny Diliberto, but saying that, I don't mean to take anything away from Jim Wych or Billiy Incardona :)

And why on earth Jim's nickname is King James?

Well, being a Jim (or James) myself, I can tell you that "Jim" is the nickname for "James". Somehow I think you knew that but I figured I'd say it anyway.

Indeed it was! That was the first time I saw Mika play, and I was so impressed at the way he kept his composure after the King put a barrage on him, and was able to bear down and make it a great match. I've always been a Jim Rempe fan, and the stellar play, the dramatic ending and the the great commentary from Nick and yourself make this one of my favorite tapes! Without giving anything away Jay, I'd like to ask you and anyone else who saw this match--is it just me or did you notice a little table roll on two key shots in the deciding rack?

BTW, I'm glad to hear that it's out in DVD. It's one of those matches that I am glad to spend money for to upgrade the collection, and I'll let Jay know when I'm in town so I can stop by and pick up on of the many extra "toasters" he's bound to have lying around.:D
