the last time i ever give 10-1...

i dont know how to do a diagram but i'll try to explain the shot a little better. it's not like the efren shot its much harder and much less consistant (at least that was my thinking). cue ball off the point of the side pocket then across table to where the shooter is standing, and then banking one rail into the corner pocket on the side of the table where he initially hit the point. hopefully that makes sense. anyways, just one-rail kicking into the corner can take a few tries, throw an off-the-point factor in there and i figured 10-1 was a winner, but alas...

How its possible for a guy to get good enough at pool to run a 7 pack but still not understand that you NEVER take another guys prop bet is beyond me.

I learned before I was old enough to drive. Mine was a guy betting he could throw a playing card and stick it in the wall from about 10 feet away.

Quite simply if a guy says "I bet I can...." chances are he can. Unless its Corey Deuel in which case there is a 50/50 chance he either can do what hes offering 100% every time or he has never done it before in his life and is just bored.

sounds like a "Z" shot that starts with whitey being shot approx from a side pocket and then goes straight across into the opposite side's pocket point, back across diagonally striking a side cushion sending it across to the opposite corner.

Is that correct?

yeah thats probably an easier way to explain it. and yes, i know youre not supposed to take anybody's props but this one seemed like a good bet. i wonder if anybody's ever said that before. anyways i wanted to try the shot afterward to see if it was just a hanger or something but i was so embarrassed i just left.

:) nice. This is a known prop bet and from what I can tell just needs the right table... learned it from my teacher a while ago, he could hit it on his Gandy. But you'll probably never hit it on a diamond. Only got it a couple of times on a gold crown, depends on which model and how the pockets are cut. Basically it's just a load of running english off the pocket facing, you don't literally have to hit the rounded nubby part of the point.

Thats the shot I was talking about...from the corner to the nipple on the side pocket, banking to middle of rail nearest you banking again into the corner pocket. Have used it when my only ball was in the jaws and my opponent scratched leaving me w ball in hand in the kitchen. Out of the kitchen to the nipple almost straight back at you into the rail, banking across table to the ball in the jaws. Basically a double bank using the nipple to make the Cue Ball come bck towards you.

Was the ball he made hung up in the pocket?

Stop and think about this for a second.. You're so busy trying not to brag about being a good player that you don't realize that you were likely a mark. The kid would have lost 7 or 8 to you if it involved his "accidentally" scratching every other shot.

the kid played well but wasnt expecting to play a good player (not trying to brag) at this particular bar.

Two answers:
(1) Of course it seemed like a good bet. The kid probably practices that shot every single day. After losing $700, you really gotta ask yourself why the kid would risk losing $50 more on such a crazy shot.
(2) Yes, there's been about a million people who have said those exact words.

Oh, well. Don't beat yourself up too much. You're not the first person to lose to a hustle or two lucky shots. Lesson learned. Very expensive lesson.
