The OB-1 Shaft

The 30" OB-1 LD shaft for my Viking G-27 arrived UPS yesterday. I have been fighting embracing technology in pool for years. I always thought LD shafts were overkill since they came out. Boy was I wrong.

When I screwed it on my Viking I found it matched perfectly and the balance was better than the stock shaft. I've hit about 500 balls with it already. I've played about 20 racks of the 9-ball ghost, 10 racks of the 10-ball ghost, and at least 15 racks of 14.1 with it. A lot of the members on here said that it takes days or weeks to get use to it. It felt good to me from the first ball I hit. Over the course of a few hours I noticed most all of my shots hitting center pocket. One thing I don't quite understand is that the ball makes a different sound as it hits the back of the pocket. I know this sounds funny but it really does. I don't know if it's because I'm hitting more center pockets or hitting with more authority and confidence or what. The shaft has the sweetest hit I've ever felt before in any cue I've owned.

I want to thank Royce from OB- Cues and Greg from Billiard Warehouse for the fine job of matching the shaft to my Viking and the great customer service that they both gave me. I will have no problem recommending the OB-1 shaft, OB Cures service, and Billiard Warehouse to anyone that asks my opinion. Johnnyt

Both shafts are great...The big difference is the taper...I prefer the OB1 taper...

I like them so well heck I am becoming a rep for them in the North Jersey area....so wanna try one in the NYC/North NJ area let me know...I should have the demos here shortly and you can test them out...

I have about $500 into this Viking with the new OB-1 shaft. I wouldn't sell it right now for a $1000. Johnnyt

I play with the OB-1 and I really Like the softer hit compared to my 314-2. I'm going to get the ob breaker for X-mas I think?.....Tar has a great deal going on OB cues and shafts.

I played with the OB1 shaft for a little while and it is a remarkable product. The only thing I didnt like and the reason I gave up on it was because it allowed me to put too much spin on the cue ball. I know that sounds kind of funny but I ended up coming up short on my position a lot because I was almost afraid of what I could do with the rock. I think I am going to give it another go though when I get a new cue made. One thing I really did like about it was the accuracy for hitting jacked up shots and the ability to hit those nice little 3-4 inch draw shots with ease. However, mine did not line up quite right on the butt I purchased it for and stuff like that tends to bother me. I dont think it was any flaw in the shaft though, I had a suspicion that the joint pin on the butt was not perfectly centered.

I hit some balls with an OB2 a few months ago and just did not care for the taper. I have relatively small hands and the taper just got too thick too quickly. I prefer the taper of the z2.

I love my OB 1 shaft on my Schon. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, but when I did, I have shot significantly better. People told me the 1st week I had it, man you are starting to become a pool player. I just grinned and kept shooting. I won a Predator Z shaft in a set shortly after that, I have yet to screw it on to my Schon and try it. I'm sure I will someday, but not today.

I currently have a Z2 but am going to switch to an OB. They are great shafts! Contrary to what was mentioned above, I prefer the OB2 taper over the Z2. JMO. Good luck with your new shaft!

The OB shafts play well. I haven't played with an OB cue but I'm sure they play similarly. Schmitty seems to do pretty well with them.

Me, I like the OB-2.

I adjusted to the OB-2 after about a couple of hours of play. I guess I should say, I was sold on the OB-2 after a couple of hours of play.

You just don't have to adjust as MUCH for squerve.

it's always funny to me when old timers finally come around. they all say that it's just a gimmick until it works for 'em

If the OB-2 is better than the OB-1 and I get one I'd be headed up to Panama City from Tampa to whoof at John S. LOL. Johnnyt

John S??? (last name??) I was in PC for about 3-4 months but that was back in 1994. About the only place I shot at there was Rack N Cue..
