The open part of U.S. Open

Well, the way I see it is it's one of the few men's pro tournaments that anyone can play in. Take advantage of it! In some tournaments, you get to play some pros, but not many tournaments are open for anyone to be able to play a lot more pros. What an experience it would be.

Can you see yourself playing good?

There is only one way to get experience in the us open. By playing in it, so if you've done your home work (practice) Go play and experience the pressure, the players, Its only a game remember have some fun if ya can. Hopefully you can learn by watching I'd say good luck but you need a miracle it sounds like. seriously you can only feel the open preesure at the open play. Its only money what do ya think you can take it with ya. I WAS AT THE OFFICE PUT IN COUPLE GAMES TO 100-STRAIGHT POOL. Today

you are right in most tourneys i play in half the field has no chance of cashing, yet the same handful of guys seem to cash every week or be close to it, i'd guess that all these guys that are dead money in the us open are robbing most of their local or even regional tourneys that they play in so u could look at it as throwing a lil $ back into pool, other sports have fantasy camps, some guys would probably look at the us open in the same sense as those camps, i think it's good for pool but there's surely a lot more descent tourneys out there without a $500 entry fee, i'd rather stake a player that has a slim chance than play myself with none

No, I don't think so. More players means there is more money (I think). Besides A players and below will be disposed within two matches so I don't think it really affects anyone negatively.

Besides, if I were a pro and I had a B player to play in the first round, it's kind of like getting a first round bye.

And the nice thing about that thinking, if you're the B player, is the pro might let up a little bit and get lazy (since most humans are lazy). Not that you should count on it, but it's possible that you will win more games than you would expect. And that can be almost as rewarding as winning the match.
 
I played in The Open in 1993 via winning a qualifier at Bartlett Billiards right outside Memphis. First round I played George Breedlove who beat me 11-8. 2nd round I played some guy I didn't know but was warming up with in the back room before the match. I says to myself "hell, I can beat this guy" Well I had him 3-0. missed a stright in combo on the nine and he beat me 11 in a row! But it truly was the highlight of my pool life and I suggest giving it a shot if you can pony up the entry fee,
 
I think it's great anyone can put up their $300 dollars and play in the US Open. I'm really sorry that I never played in it when I was healthy. I had no chance, but just to have played in it would have been worth the $1500 for the week. Like so many other things in life that you put off until next year, sometimes next year never comes. The entry fee is $500 Johnny. There are no Senior discounts. :)
 
U.S.Open

I use to help direct this tournament with Scott. If I remember correctly the field has only exceeded 256 once, and it did so pretty amazingly. 312 players (something like that). The average player list is around 185.

And speaking of anyone able to enter, and their level of play, I can tell a million funny stories but I have had players come to me in the middle of their second match, after losing the first one, and ask me, "what is a push? The other guy just said that and shot. What do I do?"

We also saw a guy take a bus to the tournament, from the Boston area I think, buy a cue at the tournament, enter and play. He lost his first round and then overslept and forfeited the next match.

I can go on and on ....... IT'S A GREAT EVENT THOUGH. IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN YOU SHOULD GO!
 
I have done it many times before, and I will continue to do it. Not the USOPEN yet, but someday and when I do I know I will be deadmoney, but what the hell? That is why I play the sport, I hope to draw out players like Cory, or Shane , or even the legends like Buddy, who would not want to play them. By the way, this is a pretty strong B player indeed:

-Able to run 1 to 3 racks.
-Average run is 5-7 balls.
-With ball in hand will get out form the 5, 2 out of 3 times.
 
I haven't played the Open, but have played other tournaments with pros, and I have got the chance to play Ralf Souquet, Niels Feijen, Alex Lely, Marcus Chamat, Nick van den Berg, Tony Drago and many more. It's a buzz for motivation.

I run into this problem with the State Championships I put on every year, which is an Open Qualifier, BTW. I have the APA 4 or 5 that want to do it for the experience and I have 2 or 3 players that play really well that want to get in and they want to try and complain about not getting in. I tell them if they had taken the time to sign up 3 months ago when everyone found out about the tournament, they would be in. Then I have some players that think since they are some of the better players in the "City", that I should hold them a spot in the "State" Tournament because we live in the same "City"

Put your money up and play!

Also, if it was getting down to just a few spots and there were a few notable missed players, I am sure Barry would get in touch with them somehow!

Except you because you're female. I would love to see Barry one day let women play in this tournament. Why not?

Just think, Karen, Allison, Jasmin, Monica, Kelly, Pan, Kim and on and on. These gals can kick some butt on a pool table. It would only add to the event in my opinion.

Oddly enough, that fact has slipped right by me. I never stopped to think that it is an all male event and it is called the US.OPEN, that is not exactly open. I don't think that a woman could win anyways, but $500, is $500 and I am sure that they could knock off quite a few guys though (Karen is making a habit of doing that on the JOSS tour). Maybe it is because the women have an all female open. Wow, this is definitely something I learned today (probably knew it already and it never registered that the only people I see in the brackets are guys). Hmmm.... I would personally welcome the female entrants.

The women have their own US OPEN that the men are not allowed to play in. It is just like in golf, why in the hell do the female players lobby to play in and sometimes get to (Wie/Sorenstam) when the men are not allowed to play on the LPGA? While I agree that Allison, Karen, and others can somewhat compete and cash every now and then in a mens event, why should they be allowed to play in it when the men can't play on the women's tour?
 
I think playing in the US open would be great. That way if by some chance you beat a top player you can pat them on the back and give them the ole' "you tried really hard and I think you have a lot of potential"

Still, take advantage of it, Skess. Just goes to show - the US Open for Women isn't open to all women. Hmmm...

Even more a reason for guys to take advantage of the US Open. ;)
