The segment is going to start soon, the host did the preview about the billiard player.

It is a great piece promoting the 13 Under category. The portrayal of billiards as a family activity was also a huge win for leagues.

This is the start of a true youth development program. European and Asian countries are light years ahead of us in this regard. THIS is how we grow the sport! This is also a step towards shedding the hustler/gambling image pool as suffered for the last 100 years. Well done, Ra!

I watched it, not till the end.....was hoping for something creative and ????.
Pool Shark/tattoo parlor/fights/criminals/biker gangs....these words are all related to the pool table in the publics minds.

I wish the media would stop with the "pool shark" connotation. IMO it's negative.
While I agree with you in a technical sense.

We also have to remember no publicity is bad publicity. Since we are largely ignored-it’s kinda better than nothing, maybe

I'm grateful for any attention pool gets in mainstream media, especially in USA. Jawz "D'Angelo Spain" is ranked number one in the 13 and Under category of the Juniors International Championship (JIC) run by Ra Hanna. I'm especially proud of him because he's from my area, Washington, D.C. It is also nice to see people of color in our sport.

In the 18 and Under category of the JIC tour, a Greenville, SC, Landon Hollingsworth, is ranked number two in his category and will be representing USA in the upcoming international event. Check him out.

I spotted Jawz back in 2019 when he was showcased in my local news media. When he was 8 years old, he was already well on his way, as was h is brother, who is now in the armed forces. Here's a photo from 2019 that made the news.

Here's the names of the players The 10 winners. From left to right: Dalton Giffin, 17, Alexandria, VA; D'Angelo (Jawz) Spain, 8, Glen Burnie, MD; Frank (Sniper) Spain III, 16, Glen Burnie, MD; Jackson Strong, 13, Fairfax, VA; John Mack III, 13, Pasadena, MD; Braxton Ellison IV, 17, Newville, PA; Taylor Perkins 11, Burke VA; Collin McGain 16, Alexandria, VA; Skylar Hess, 10, Bowie, MD; Victoria (Jana) Mitchell, 17, Springfield, VA.

Do you recognize any other names? I do.

Among the winners was D’Angelo Spain, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, who everyone calls “Jawz.”

He is strikingly young, at just 8 years old; his pool cue looks taller than he is. But he is known to run the table on his opponents, no matter how old they might be.

“I practice a lot — almost the whole day,” Jawz said. “It starts when I first get home from school.”

According to his father and coach, Frank Spain, Jawz first picked up a cue when he was 4.

“He’s just a natural,” Spain said. “I don’t know if he used to shoot pool in his past life or what, but he loves the game and this is all he does.”

Here's a photo from our local news back in 2019. The press release: Local Kids Run Pool Tables
