The Ultimate Post Office Horror Story

Cant you sue them for negligence and destruction of property ???

Don't think you can, thats why you should always get insurance for what ever it is you have into it. Now you might be able to dispute there findings if they refuse to pay the claim. Never had a problem with usps shipping tons of cues years ago but it happens. Recently had 2 chairs shipped from pier 1 in pa to my house in va because they where not in stock locally and they arrived just like Joe's cue here. And just before that a computer from Fla shipped DHL arrived in pieces also that I bought on ebay.(maybe thats why DHL has stopped service to private residences starting Oct 1 and only handles business to business now).I dont think Joe will have a problem proving his case in this matter:eek:

i think im going to be sick!!! that takes some effort!!! did the buyer actually receive the cue or did the post office return it to on their own? can you imagine what the buyer said when he saw this? i wouldnt have wanted to answer that call from the buyer. i really hope this gets resolved and keep your head up joe, your luck has to turn around sometime!

Damn.

Such a great looking cue too, I hope you manage to get the $$$ back.

Insurance still would not cover it

Even with insurance they would deny it two times & make you appeal it , for a third time to Washington Dc.
I am going through it right now for a lost package insured & they can not prove the delivery to me. It got denied once Then the appeal now they don't deny it was not delivered but question the value even with a receipt from when I purchased the cue ,& another showing me selling it to my customer .
So here goes the second appeal to Washington. with a copy of my bank check for my withdrawal prior to SBE 08 when I bought the cue.
The problem is that the insurance Co is independent to the P.O. they will not pay a claim & want Washington to.
Even with letters drawn up from an attorney .
Good luck - Bama sorry you had this problem.

Tank is right on, unfortunately. I have no doubt that I will eventually get my money, but I had a similar event around 6 months ago. Just as Tank said, they will disapprove it 2-3 times, saying they need more evidence of value, etc. I think they do that because a certain number of customers just give up after the initial refusal, and they save the money that way.

Well, my little string of bad luck continues.

Here is a brand new Cory Barnhart cue. I just got it from Cory, and sold it here on AZB. Well, we all know how gentle the post office is in handling their shipments.

Honestly, is there any real way that this could have been accidental? To me, it looks like it had to be intentionally done to totally destroy it like this.

I wrapped it in bubble wrap, and packed it in a tube. Then, I packed the tube in a new Post Office triangle box. Here is the result.

Nothing is left usable. I had hoped that we could save the forearm, but it is split right through the points. The butt sleeve is salvagable, though.

It was insured, but not at full retail value. My last post office claim took 4 hard, grueling months to settle. They kept denying it based on the fact that I had "overstated" the value. I had a $500 claim on a $1500 cue. They finally paid when the cuemaker gave me a certificate of replacement value.

Yes, Mason, that was it. I really hate it. Think of all the wasted time and effort Cory put into it.

Here is the cue before it was modified.

Now that really hurts.

Nooooooo

I AM SO SORRY THAT HAPPENED.

I HAVE HAD A CUE GET RIFLED (STOLEN) AND IT WAS NOT INSURED BY THE SHIPPER, LUCKILY MY CC FOUGHT SO THE SELLER WAS RESPONSIBLE AND NOT ME FOR HIM NOT INSURING AND I WAS NOT OUT 600 BUCKS.

ALWAYS SHIP USPS EXPRESS MAIL, THEY ARE MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND DELIBERATE WITH THAT SERVICE, ITS WORTH THE EXTRA 15 OR SO BUCKS AND IT IS 2Xs FASTER.

Joe,i thought i was going bad lately, but man you have a bad run of luck.when it's over you will be on a good roll for a long time.

Joe, do you think the cue would have survived if it was inside a PVC tube? I know I sent you a cue packaged exactly the same way as the one they destroyed, and it made it O.K. It might be worth the extra weight in shipping to put the cue is something bulletproof then slide it into the tube.

Unbelievable.........
It really puts a empty pit feeling in your gut when you see something like this. Knowing the hours of intense labor and pride that went into that cue and seeing it get flushed down the toilet that quick just really makes one feel sick.

Sad.....
Good luck with your claim......

Honestly, in this case, I don't think any tube type would have mattered. Take a good look at the metal pin bent at 90 degrees....something hard and heavy sat on this cue.

This is so terrible and makes me think twice of buying a cue and shipped!!! Honestly, if a postman will handover my shipment like this..... I maybe rude but really I would't think twice to blow his ass with my gun.

Sorry to hear another badluck for you Joe.

They're all animals

With bar code that size I'm sure there is a way of tracking the personal that handled it. Line them all up and shoot them.
I used to be in print/production and would receive all kinds of work through carriers. UPS guys came into the shop one morning laughing about the condition of a package he had in his hands! It was air brushed artwork commissioned for a large print run. The artist had worked for months on it and the UPS idiot is now holding it in his hands with two sets of truck tire tracks running through the middle of it. The kicker was the the artist didn't insure it. It was worth a few thousand until UPS got to it.
Sad for your loss.
