The Ultimate Post Office Horror Story

sad sad sad

I just started crying that is the worst horror story ive ever herd im scard out of my mind waiting on my cue to get here via USPS.

Sorry for your loss
Randy

Looks like it was down in loading, sorry it happened to you Joe, you've been great to deal with.

My guess is they had the tube stored vertically, when they tried to put pressure on it. It just bent and gave way.

Yeah you maybe right on your guess!
I don't know, I just feel sick when I see this one.

it would take 1000's of punds of pressure to snap the wood and bend a brass pin like that.

I saw a thing like this happen once, I was on the way to Vegas and was watching out the window of the airport as the bags were going into the plane and a triangle box fell off the lift that I would bet anything had a cue in it and one of them tuggs that pull the jets ran right over it. I also sent a tube like that to a cuemaker friend of mine in Florida and when it got there he called me and said the tube had no end on it and had nothing inside it. He also said the mailman delivered it had him sign for it like that was the way it was suppose to be. Luckily it was insured as is everyithing I send and was a very lowend cue. But still.

Did you or the person recieving this sign for it?

I don't know..if the mailman knocked on my door with that package I wouldn't even accept it or sign for it unless it was noted on the slip. You can refuse to sign for something that shows sign of damage unless they stamp it recieved in damaged condition(this is very important when filing a claim..it proves it was damaged by them, and not you..the key to any claim is showing it was damaged in transit). Lets say for example the package gets delivered and the person gets a important call on there cell like everyone else does and there on there way out somewhere(thats all you see anymore is a cell phone to everyone's ear).So they lay the package against there car or just throw it up on the roof of there car and start BS"ing for awhile and forget its there and start there car and drive off and hear a thump or the car behind them runs it over once it falls off.Not to say that happen here but it certainly looks like it was run over. Just a thought...not like anyone would lie nowadays:wink: Thats why when you sign for a package and dont have damaged documented BEFORE you acept it there could be doubt.

The package was damaged at the time it was delivered to my customer. The post office acknowledged that they damaged it and stamped the label. I would think that would make things easier, but you never know, although I do think the "Possibly Damaged" part was a little off.

Nooo.....not possibly damaged, its pure luck the box isnt torn in half. If it had been what would they do bring you both pieces. It doesnt matter if they are in the wrong or not it seems like, they will drag it out as long as " possible " then at the last minute pay off.

If you'll notice on the label, "Possibly Damaged" was the only option. I guess the Post Office doesn't want to have one that states clearly that an item was "definitely" damaged.

sucks to see something like this happen to such a nice cue.

i wanted to ask tho, are u required to sign for an item like that. cuz i was under the impression that even if it werent damaged, u are not obligated to sign for anything. if i dont want to receive the package then i dont have to. in this case i would have definitely had it sent back.

Thats great, the only thing they can haggle over is paying the full amount of the coverage you paid for when insuring it..Good Luck

Sorry for your loss. I can see this happening from a fork lift and an operator who misses the pallet and drives the forks into the shipment.

Hope the USPS makes good on their mistake.

Best regards,
Corey

That's about the only way this "concentrated" damge on such a focused small area could happen, definetly not "run over" by a forklift

I saw this thread title...and I thought I was prepared for some kind of story about a lost or misdirected shipment. I wasn't prepared for this. I can't describe in words the way my stomach instantaneously turned when I saw that picture. That is simply grotesque. It is absolutely embarassing that something like that could happen...that they could even have the gall to deliver something to you looking like that. I'm so sorry for your loss Joe. You know...this is the reason I started shipping everything at absolute full value. Even then...what you have to go through to get a claim paid...is unreal. It's not right for them to offer you a service, which you pay for...and then have to be the one on the spot when they f*ck up. I sent the cue in my avatar back to Eric Crisp for a refinish...and insured it to the hilt. Doesn't appear as though that matters much.

Not really sure how the contents inside the Triangle shaped box could end up that damaged with out similar damage to the outer box.

It looks like your outer box just got tossed around and possibly a slightly larger box may have landed on it, but doesn't look too bad IMO.

The inner round tube looks like someone tried to and was successful in breaking it open by twisting it.

The contents (or what's left of them) are obviously not damaged in a normal way, everything is broken right down the middle, the exact spot that pretty much makes this cue un repairable (just firewood). Both shafts and the butt and broken right in the middle.

It appears that you have an enemy at the Post Office! There's no way that the inside would look the way it does with the outside looking the way it does. This looks like it was opened, round tube torn open and the cue smashed with something while still inside the bubble wrap.

I'd definatly seek further action than just getting your money back! This looks way to intentional!

Good luck,
Zim

I Just had a similar issue with UPS, not to that extreme though ..... just the packing tube was damaged!

So i guess you and I are both taking them both off the list of Shippers. guess we will have to try FedEx or DHL. or hire a currior service to drive cross country on his bicycle.............

Zim,
The outer triangle was actually bent at almost right angles. It has accordion bends/folds all through it. The tube definitely separated at the spirals. The tape sealing the triangle, inside tube, and bubble wrap were all intact and sealed. There was no appearance of any attempt to get the contents out of the box.

I AM SO SORRY THAT HAPPENED.

I HAVE HAD A CUE GET RIFLED (STOLEN) AND IT WAS NOT INSURED BY THE SHIPPER, LUCKILY MY CC FOUGHT SO THE SELLER WAS RESPONSIBLE AND NOT ME FOR HIM NOT INSURING AND I WAS NOT OUT 600 BUCKS.

ALWAYS SHIP USPS EXPRESS MAIL, THEY ARE MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND DELIBERATE WITH THAT SERVICE, ITS WORTH THE EXTRA 15 OR SO BUCKS AND IT IS 2Xs FASTER.
I work for the USPS and this is very true. Express is handled way different than ordinary mail.
If you are shipping a high dollar cue, always use EXPRESS. Plus, the insurance is a little cheaper cause of the special handling express gets.
Bama hope claim goes smooth for ya.

I've had the worst luck with the Post Office shipping cues and they are my last choice for shipping a custom cue. I hope you can get this settled without a lot of trouble. It's a shame and I can't imagine how i'd feel if I received a new cue and it was in this condition.

I wish you luck with this,

James
