The Working Pro Player

LA. Hey I might get some action after all.
Now if I can just find my cue. I'll have to clean out the closet.

Come on Jay!! I have gone to House of Billiards Santa Monica about 100 times and about 90 of those times I have gotten a game of 1-pocket. It is the popular game there. There are at least 15 players that go there that will play you unless you are trying to rob. No more of this, "poor me I can't find action", time to step up and step out. LOL

I'll give you some action, what days and times are best for you?
I work in LA off at 3:30.

I live near Mr. Lucky's on Hawthorne. I literally haven't picked up a cue since the BCA, and i only played a few matches then.
I'm out of stroke and almost broke, but i'll make a date with you for next week Jerry if you so desire.

Ok Mr. WayneO. Several years back when I lived in Venice with Ming, I would occasionally come up to the HOB and try to get a game. I sat and I sat and I sat, and everyone said Hi Jay. Who did I end up playing? Ming! And she had more heart than anyone in there. Only the other Wayne (Boomer) would play and I gave him a ball (8-7), or Bob the real estate guy, who plays good and I always beat him at 20 a game. Just ask him.

This was before you were coming around. Ask that heavy set guy who comes in all the time or the old timers. I beat everyone who would step up in there except Raffi, and we broke even for 200 a game.
And that Chauffer Bob always wanted weight and so did the rest of the crowd in there. YOU are the only one willing to play even now.

I asked many times for someone to play some 50 or 100 a game One Hole or 9-Ball in HOB and they all looked around for someone else. You're the first real player in there in years. And I know I'm out of line with you, but if you have a little gamble I will get in stroke and play some Banks for 100 a game, short rack sir. And I know you're a good player, probably better than me.

P.S. I'll pay you $50 for that list of 15 players and If ten of them play me you get a 50 bonus. And I'm talking even, no weight either way. You're the only guy up there that worries me.

It's a long drive for me and I haven't played seriously in a long time (since my poolroom closed) but I would get back in stroke and stop by if I knew I had a game.

I have never heard of a poolhall where there were 15 people willing to play even in 1-pocket, I don't think it exists except in a tournament.

I told you you can't try to rob. I have never played a game of banks in my life and I have watched you drill a very good player in that game I would have to pass unless I become brain damaged at which point I might consider it.

I know tall Phil would play you even in 1-pocket but probably you would have to give some weight to get games with the other 1-pocket players.

Like I said I have very rarely had a problem getting a game there but I am willing to give up a lot of weight to some of the players in order to play.

vagabond,
would you mind describing yourself? I think I know who you are.

I think a players ability to compete at the highest level and work full time depends on a few things:

a) What access they have to a decent table/competition out of work time, and perhaps more importantly,

b) The number of years since they last played pool full time.

I think if a player has at some point played full time pool for thousands of hours it takes quite sometime for the benifits of that to diminish, or atleast to diminish enough so that a few weeks practice won't revive the old levels of play.

In my case I play one evening a week on sh*ite tables and I last played full time in 1991 :(

Yea yea yea,

George Breedlove

Actually, George Breedlove is not a carpenter, but has a small company that manufactures "unpainted" furniture. There are many stores around the country that sell this stuff. Playing on the IPT will not affect his business.

I have been playing pool with George since he came to a tournament I was running when he was 18 years old. George does work for a living and is a natural talent for this game. He used to work all summer long at his business and then play the pro tournaments during the winter months. Now that he has the IPT card, I think he'll be working at his game again.
Dee Adkins is another player that works for a living. Like Earl Timmons said, "put someone on a roof with Dee for a week, and then see if they can make a run at him". That's about as tough as the action can get.
Both of these guys are gonna be very dangerous when they slow down on working and start focusing on pool again. Sam

I bet u know me. I played in Cincinatti,Toledo,Daton, Cleveland & Columbus when I was not legally blind ,old & feeble.
Right at this moment I am wearing a olive color suit with a black shirt and a BLACK KNOTT tie with olive dots on black background and plain olive colored socks and black colored shoes made in USA ( Tennessee).Except the socks and shoes all the others are European designers (Italian).
About my height-The pool room I have been going to has three urinals of different heights for the men to void urine. The one I use can not be reached by the short people.I have lots of tan from Mississippi,Texas & Arizona.
A year ago at a WPBA event in Peopria I unmasked and revealed myself.
Oops I already gave too much information for the detectives. Cheers

Hi Satman,
I lived in Muncie for three months in 1995.I did NOT want to mess with that Jones guy.He wanted to play for 3000 $ a set but I backed off.

Cheers

Don't worry about it Vag. I can protect myself pretty well. I found out years ago that If I'm playing, someone will have to show their speed to beat me. If they stall, they can't get there.

And I'm confident I can get back in stroke if I want to. I've only done it about a hundred times. I'm just another old has been and proud of it.

To this day that was one of the most amazing things I ever saw. The whole poolroom emptied out when Danny said he would throw a 100 yard field goal with a golf ball. I mean, c'mon.

I stood under that goal post and watched the ball split the wicket. He actually threw it more like 110 yards. Some people actually bet him again. Not me, I had seen enough.

I bought a Brunswick Gibson last year. It is the replica of the Anniversary. Still haven't got it playing right though. Kind of discouraging to have this beautiful table that banks funny. Maybe one day I can get Ernesto out here.
