The World has got the 8

In a long session I like Corey to come up with ways to bring the eight into play like nobody has ever seen...

Maybe not the whole slogan though right Jam ;)

Which part? "The world" or "the 8"? :p

...Johnny getting to rack..... hilarious....

Too bad pool doesn't have a mechanical rack like bowling.

Can you imagine bowlers racking their own pins in a tournament competition? :D

In 9-ball today, if a player can rack proficiently in a winner's rack format as well as a loser's rack format, changing their rack to adapt to the format, it is quite telling.

When I see players licking the 1-ball, for example, it sends up a red flag.

Archer's best days are long gone, didn't Schmidt just smoke him in Puerto Rico?

Efren giving the 5,6,7,and 8 is just insane

What is Earl doing?
Why doesn't he try a money match with Dennis?
A long money match might just be what he needs.
He just might regain confidence that he lost.

Earl at his best versus Orcullo or Yang today. Who would win?
I know he narrowly lost to Reyes in their race to 120 match, but he did have the upper hand most of the time.
I still think Earl is the best 9baller ever...:o

I think your right. When he's ON, nobody's got to like it. He sure is fun to watch. Not a bigger stroke in pool anywhere.

Earl quit gambling quite a few years back.

I was talking with Earl at the Camel Pro tourney in LV in 1996 or 97 I cant remember that far back. Anyway, he said he quit gambling for anything except maybe a meal here and there, and since then he ahs a Porche that he doesnt have to worry about selling, and over a million in the bank that isnt going anywhere. he seemed quite content with his decission expecially when Buddy Hall overheard our conversation and asked him to gamble for the Buffet ticket and Earl told him "NO, I Never gamble with a FAT man for food".. LOL

I've watched Johnny Archer for years at tournaments and on Accu-stats tapes and he doesn't play the same game today that he played when he was younger. In his early days he was exciting in every aspect of the game - one of if not the best breaks, shot making to match anyone, and he played at a good pace. My observation is he's slowed his game down too much and now he's too deliberate with his play.

yep i agree.........hes got a slight ocd thing going on with the lint and the cueball, and i dont think he gets any rhythm or flow going like he used to. Watch that match from like 92 or 93 where he beats efren, he plays at least twice as fast back then.

Once i heard about wade crane playing jose' parica back in the mid 80's. The story was that they were playing 9-ball for 1,000 per game. The story is that parica had crane down 5 games when all of a sudden crane put a 10
pack on him. Parica quit. Crane then went to the intercom and announced that he would play anybody in the room right now. There were alot of good players there such as Earl,Kim,Buddy,etc.. and they were in there prime back then. No one would go for it. Of course if i had watched a man put a 10 pack on parica i would wait until he has cooled off a little before challenging him. lol!!=)

I think alot of these players have there days when they are unbeatable and playing near perfect pool,im sure its a wonderful feeling.:)

Corey

Kinda funny to watch Corey use a Sardo and then "adjust" the balls with his fingers too. I noticed that he wiped both balls used for the lag on his shirt after the lag at the 2006 DCC One Pocket also. Maybe I am just suspicious minded . . .

I'll be in Reno for the Bar Table Championships (that Orcullo won last year) in March. I'll see if I can save up a big enough carbuncle to put it towards an American playing Orcullo. Who do you guys think would play him if he is given weight? Who is the strongest American bar box player? Dave Matlock? That is what I used to hear, but I doubt he is a world beater right now.

I hope I get to play Orcullo in the first round. That would be the greatest accomplishment in my life to beat him.

Depends on who you ask! :D

Matlock is hitting 'em stronger than ever today. Money has a funny way of bringing out the BEST in a player.

Dave Matlock played strong on the IPT tour. Though this was on the 9-footers, you can best believe that Dave Matlock can play all games. What separates him from the rest is he has the capability to adjust, having been an American road warrior and traveled the road when action was prevalent. :)

I spoke to Dave in Vegas last year, and he is looking forward to building a new house with his IPT winnings to date. I think he won $30,000 in Vegas, if memory serves me right. :)

Here he is in Vegas with his fiance!

Well, I am a little biased, but having been from Oklahoma, and having shot with James Walden, I would have to say I couldn't let him back down from getting the 8 from ANYBODY on a bar box. I believe that James and Dave were road warriors for a time, if I am not mistaken.

When in Reno, I'll see if Dennis will give me the 8..........playing 8 ball:D :D :D

Hey belmicah a good bar box bet with any weight at all expecially the wild 7 which Orcullo would give Stevie Moore could get you rich, Stevie has won the big barbox tournament here in NC 4 or 5 times with the best players in USA included. Stevie was going to play Gande Valle with the 8 and 9 in ten ball at US open but Valle ended up in a long match and time ran out I was told.I was there and really would have liked watching that.

I'll see if I can get that weight for Stevie again. Sounds like I need a little more than $500 to gamble on while down there.

The more modern players have a better breakshot than the generations before them. They also jump balls better and play better defense. They're not better shotmakers or position players except at One Pocket, where the top players get behind balls at the other end of the table like nobody's business.
Keith, Buddy and Nick were practically unbeatable in the 70's and 80's. Keith, for the dough, COULD probably have given any player a little something. He regularly gave A players games like the orange crush (the 5 and the break) and demolished them; case in point, Harley once got the 6 and the break on the bar table and promptly lost about $15,000. Then he hunted Keith down to play some more and got broke again.
Nobody ever beat Buddy for the money in an extended match. There are some top players who didn't beat Nick for 5 or 6 years at any game.
But things have definitely changed. Many of the American guys are scared of the Philipinos and almost admit defeat before playing, which is a disgrace to me. I chide them as often as I can but it's a tough sell, to get them to believe that they play as well as anyone in the world. I mean, C'mon, isn't Archer gonna put packages together and Duell and if Johnny gets to rack the balls against anyone, I REALLY like him.

To follow this up, if Corey gets to rack his own, then I will bet on him EVEN.

Is Orcullo definitely going to be there? I have heard that Orcullo and Marlon Manalo are joining the next Reno tournament and that Manalo is in the Turning Stone games but this is the first time I heard that Dennis is going to be in the bar table championship too.
