The WSOP

Phil Gordon is a douchebag. You hear how pissed he was getting during the ONLY entertaining interview of the night, shieke and Matusow? After like only 5 minutes gordon runs them off. I coulda listened to them two for the ENTIRE TIME!!!!

First, Mike the Mouth is not good for poker as a marketing tool. Please watch when Greg Raymer won the WSOP & the altercation between the two. Nothing but low class on Mike's part. If Phil Helmuth actually named Mike directly in his interview, then he needs his head examined & should stick to poker not marketing. The reason why the pro poker players 'put up' with Mike is that he is a sucker with substance issues. When he made the final table at the WSOP I believe 2 years ago, he was guaranteed 1 million dollars. Mike was serious when he said that would barely get him even for his losses the previous month. You can catch the pros playing poker online from time to time, and it is usually when Mike the Mouth is losing a minimum of $300k over several days. By the way, Mike just won $671K on July 15th @ Bellagio Cup Tournament. I am sure that will last him about 3 weeks and the pros will be chopping him up.

One of the best websites for poker news, etc. so you don't have to guess at figures, etc is http://www.cardplayer.com/. Go to the link for the WSOP, chip counts http://www.cardplayer.com/tournaments/chip_counts/7278, and you can see the players that qualified thru PartyPoker. If you haven't been to this site before, and love poker, my guess is that you will spend about 3-4 hours clicking away. It is a great site and exceptionally well designed.

what you said watchez is somewhat true, except as of late he has toned down his attitude a bit and has been managing his bankrollbetter supposedly. A couple hears ago he cashed in a wsop tourney for something like a million dollars (ME '05 i beleive) and lost it all in the following week or so he said. At first I couldn't believe that story until I started watchign videos of him playingon full tilt and losing hundreds of thousands in one sitting, sometimes up near 400k in one session. In real life Matusow is an incredibly gifted player but when he starts losing he really loses big, but as I said he claims he's gotten smarter about it now.

I also got the PPV on Dish and it was well worth it! In the fine print it said that the coverage was guaranteed until 3:AM, so I'm glad they didn't cut it off. As it was I slept between 4-6, but woke up to see the final hour.

It was great entertainment for 12 hours! It is frustrating though, to not see the hole cards. So when they went through the long sessions of preflop raising and folding, without ever showing anything, it was tedious...

Ahhh, if only the IPT worked out...I would be ordering pay-per-view for every tournament I couldn't attend.

I fell asleep, too, about midnight and then woke up in time for the final hand. I will probably watch it again when they show it on TV. Jerry Yang said during a post-tournament interview that he was bluffing a lot of the times in the beginning when he was aggressive in his betting style. I tried it last night in a small online poker tournament, and that strategy doesn't work for me! :o

Speaking of IPT, I remember that PartyPoker was one of the sponsors of the Vegas tournament. Does PartyPoker exist anymore?

Also, Mike the Mouth the poker player was sponsored by them and came to the tournament to spend some time. He and Mike Sigel exchanged a few quips in front of the cameras.

I don't know what happens to Keith when he sees celebrity-type figures, but he acts just like all the other eager fans. He grabbed my camera and says, "Hey, Mike, take a picture with my girlfriend." I did not want my picture taken at all, much less with this egg, but I didn't want to say no, right in front of the man. So I relented, but wasn't happy about it. Here it is, Mike the Mouth and me! :p

I guess he wasn't such a bad chap. He posed for many pictures with folks at the pool tournament, including the Hustlin USA Clothing guy, Tony! :p

He also engaged in a back-and-forth banter with Mike Sigel, the two Mike the Mouths, in a game of pool. He was good-natured and actually played a game or two, but his pool game isn't up to speed, I guess you could say.

Interestingly, the Party Poker brought about 50 baseball caps and pens to give out for FREE to the attendees of the IPT pool tournament, which was a good publicity move for advertisement. I've never seen pool tournaments give out FREE items to other sports events like this, but by way of advertising, it was a good move. I got me a couple hats! :D

Also, check out the way he is dressed. If a pool player dressed like that representing the sport of pool at another venue, all hell would break loose about the pool player's attire, and the pool player would be criticized, but with poker, anything and everything goes! The similaries between pool and poker are many, everything except the payouts.

All in all, though, Mike the Mouth was a good sport, IMHO! :)

I follow alot of poker and mike has toned down alot. The guy I can't stand is Tony g.Now he is a piece of work.

It's a small thing....but it's Lake Elsinore. And I only know because my friends play there occasionally. It's just a small poker room...and I think it's great that they helped sponsor Mr. Yang into this event.

I just wanted to get the proper name out there in case anyone wants to go visit or look it up.

That may be right. I was trying to listen to the post-tournament interview with Jerry Yang, and he was giving thanks out to "Lake Elsamore" for paying all his hotel and travel expenses to be in the tournament. He said he got into the event for $225, but I'm not sure if this was Full Tilt or maybe a satellite at the Rio. He was wearing Full Tilt logos throughout the long tournament, beginning at 3:00 p.m., EST, and ending at 6:45 a.m., EST, the next day.

I played with him this year in the $1,500 Stud. He was fine, maybe because he wasn't on TV. He busted out while at my table. Took a few too many risks. I think he considered it a "small" tournament, only 391 players and less than 200K to win. I wish!
