As myself and a few others said on here about 5 years ago and got flamed pretty good for it. There will be more small to large Bar Box tournaments in the U.S soon than 9' tournaments.. With the price of sq ft for tables the BB will just about take over pool. I enjoy watching the pros on 9' and 10' tables also, but understand that the price of floor space and cost of moving in and out of 12-30 tables is killing promoters.

With the BB tournaments you have a bunch of room/sports bars that can promote there own tournaments. They already have 12-24 Bar Boxes and still have plenty of room for a large bar or 2 and a small to large dance floor. BB tournaments, bigger entry fees, and auctions are the future of pool tournaments in the U.S...IMO. Johnnyt
 
I asked if more events like the USBTC and White Diamonds were better for the sport and Mark & Justin's response was that any tournaments will help the sport. I agree with them.

Barbox Tournaments are great for promoting pool!

In a barbox tournament:
The playing field is leveled. Players of different skill levels can match up closer.
Usually have short races. Anything can happen.
Barbox play is usually quicker than 9ft play. Not by much, but it is quicker.
More tables can fit in a room. More tables, more players, bigger payouts.
Bar tables attract the average joe. C & B players will show up for bar table tournaments.

There is absolutely nothing bad about a barbox tournament.
 
BB are nice and easy to bring in and set up too. Take off the legs, bring it in, put legs on, level and you are done. No slate seams or complete table dis assembly. I still love my 9' table though, but I will add a 7' soon as I have enough room.
 
Just makes entry to pro level play more difficult.

Sure it will get more people entered....

It will create more interest....

It levels the playing field (in people's minds more than anything, elites will still win more, just look at the USBTC and Shane's performance in the nine and tenball)...

It will promote more practice and play on barboxes though and give more top level experience on BB's and less on big tables which makes entry into elite level pool on big tables much more difficult.

I feel had I spent more time on BB's I wouldn't be any where near as capable as I am.

Exactly, it doesn't level any playing field. The lower players just feel their play is elevated on them not realizing the higher level players only become even more difficult to beat.

It does level it a little. It allows lower level players (I say lower level when the difference can be minute) the ability to run out more often and win matches that they wouldn't otherwise be as likely to win.

Quite right. I think a lot of "local heroes" are scared off by a 9 ft table. When your experience is on 7-footers, a 9-footer looks like a football field.

(I'm a relatively new player and play on an 8-foot table. I once visited Best Billiards in Las Vegas and the counter-gal put me on its 10-ft table. Since I'd never played on another table I thought it was a 9-footer. Seemed like the two ends of the table were in separate ZIP codes! What was she thinking? I certainly don't look like someone who would be a good pool player. I was a bit relieved when I realized it was a 10-footer; gave me a passable excuse for missing all those shots.)

In Louisiana, we had a barbox 9-ball tour start at the end of 2013. The "Bayou State 9-ball Tour" had a ton of players (C players to Pros) show up. I'd say it went over very well. While the short stops and pros were winning most events, a lot of B players cashed.

The entire event was live streamed also.

It's probably the best thing for pool in America in the current climate.
Hopefully things will evolve again in the future... :thumbup:

We need something to generate general interest in professional level pool. Similar to what happened with poker.

If we can average joe's thinking they have a chance, they'll get more involved. The more people involved, the more friends, family, etc. interest will be generated. Then once people start getting a handle on who is who and get emotionally involved, it will be easier to get a viable pro tour going.

BTW... I know several people who are starting to put together events that have a good chance at success.
 
I like it. It certainly levels the playing field. So much so, that it has some people on here thinking that a guy that wins a big bar table tournament plays even with two former US Open Champions.
 
That's pretty much all there is here. Very few 9ft tourneys in the Phoenix area. I don't mind it though, I have a bar box at home so I'm used to them.
 
I don't want to see them take over pool, but I would be glad to see more BB tournaments.
They definitely make logistics easier, and after seeing SBE and White Diamonds
it's clear they can get plenty of entries and generate a lot of revenue.
