These "AHEAD" pool gambling races are utter nonsense!!

Well....

I am not a fan of having to be ahead by a large amount of games to win. One reason is I like to see a winner and I don't have time to sit and watch pool for hours, especially One Pocket as I prefer the pace of 9 and 10 Ball.

I do like playing One Pocket, just slow for me to watch, but there is no one in my hick town that plays it.

But, in the big scheme of things, what other players do is really none of my business and if I don't like a playing format I don't have to watch it. My not watching it does not mean they are wrong about any thing and at least they are playing pool!

Who went to the bathroom more often?
Not sure about the "chemical warfare". From the early 80's thru mid-late 90's there was a TON of action in the Okla.-Tex.-Kan. region and a LARGE number of the participants were "fortified" in some way. I'm not defending or criticizing, its just the way it was.

I have to agree with the OP. It does seem that a long race can decide who is the better player than the "ahead games." Maybe this "ahead format " is strictly for gambling purposes. I am not a gambler. If one is trying to decide who the better player is, then a long match should do that, i.e. a race to 30 or 40 like Smith/Salim just had. Even a marathon race has a definite finish. Boxing used to go until some one was knocked out, no longer the case now. You can add that you have to win by 2. Again you have to ask yourself what are you trying to determine? Who can outlast who or who is a better player. Do you want skill to determine a winner or something else. I am not 100% sure but I don't think you will ever see an "ahead game" for a major tournament.

I think some of the pros are paying for their chemical warfare now.
They have twitches, ticks and OCD now.
Some might have really gone nuts.
One player I saw looked like an Iguana while playing.
Stuck his tongue out every other shot.

I know Efren back in the mid-90's was challenged to a 17-ahead 9-Ball game.
His own backer refused it b/c he knew what the deal was.

Why do you let these silly things bother you?
Life is short, why worry about what someone else is doing?
"Don't worry, be happy"

No, its a gambling thing only, not tournaments.

In my experience, the bottle got more of them than all the dope put together. I'm 56 and i know quite a few players that are held in high regards on this forum that used to speed their a^* off and are doing fine. Most of the guys that i knew that are dead were hardcore alkys. I did know one really good player from the Bay Area(Cali) that liked playing on acid. Tie-dye'd Dead-head that could run-out for days if his mixture was right. Think he's a coffee magnate in Bolivia now.

Says who...It doesn't make LOGICAL sense to me to play matches for several hrs and days etc..What about your real life? (Outside of pool, if he has one??) And from a cost benefit analysis it's definitely not cost effective. A'INT NO MONEY IN POOL. PERIOD!! The biggest money in pool is by people from OUTSIDE the game (poker players, Vegas gamblers etc) who just love the game. LIKE ME

If they play a race to 10 and it ends up 10-9. Sure one wins but not clearly better. Win by 10 may be a better indication. Even playing sets. Game difference can be real close.

You do trealize when you respond to a ridiculous post, you are "feeding the troll"?

its just a diff skill set....like being a 9 baller or an all arounder. The more solid player will win. especially if its in an alternate break then its even more intense lol.

gump ran from coast to coast just cuz lol
