Things that Don't Belong in Billiards in TV

I am referring to an early 80's Mosconi televised match that aired on ABC.

1. Chris Bermann with seemingly fake hair and saying things like "That blue ball with the 2 on it is really pretty, is it easier to pocket pretty balls?"
2. Allen Hopkins with a beard wearing a baby blue tux shirt.

I nearly bust my gut laughing when those two were prepping for the match.

old habits

The tournament broadcasts today could certainly do without the ," Ring Girl." walking around the table holding a card with the game number on it. This brings back memories of the smoke filled boxing arenas of the 1950's. A identification with which Pool can desperately do without.:frown:

I'm sure there will be nothing to laugh about with today's fashions in 30 years.
:p

a lot of todays fashion can't be changed...

when the tramp stamps get stretched out a foot wider than original ..

or a neck tat at 85... ewwwww

alot of folks will have a lot of regrets about their youth after the Tattoo fad goes away

tattoos dont stretch it would look more like a tiny tattoo on a bigger lower back , you will only regret getting a tattoo if its something you havent put thought into, pool has way worse problems than players having tattoos:wink:

Another thing I'm glad pool has gotten away from is playing in a tie and suit coat. Golf used to be played that way as well and I'm glad neither golf nor pool are still played in that attire.

I have to admit it added a touch of class for its time, but that time has passed. I'm old school, but not THAT old school.:grin-square:

I have a tattoo myself....but you can only see it if my shirt is off...

the tramp stamps ... the face, neck, hands..... stuff that can be seen while wearing business attire will come back to haunt you... I've seen it happen..

I'm just happy that all the decisions I made while I was 21-22... were not permanent...

getting a haircut is one thing .. having ball bearings removed from your scalp... thats another matter LOL:grin:

and to post on topic

I watched that ESPN classic Mosconi marathon recently .....

some of those bow ties could have been used as box kites they were HUGE!!!

i am a tattoo artist i own my own shop a respectable shop infact, i tattoo all the people who work at the health department, all the local police etc... and i look pretty damn snazy in a suit, my tattoos have never haunted me andthey never will, now i was on topic:rolleyes: now having said all that im am also a pool player orshould i say i like toplay pool , and i do play in open events i have played in upa events as well so if i was on tv with a tattoo that would be bad for the sport? what pool really needs is to try and find a way to make pool exciting to viewers like they did with poker and golf that will get more sposors adding more money bigger payouts making people want to learn how to play pool to have a shot at the money like people on tv:wink:

I am guessing tattoos on a guy owning a tattoo shop wouldn't have a neg affect. If you apply to run a fortune 500 company with your head, neck, hands or arms covered in tattoos, I would be safe in saying, your not getting the job.

If I had a position that required customer service to everyone and all ages, I wouldn't hire someone covered in tattoos. Regardless of how skilled the tattoo artist was, it wouldn't be the company image I would want greeting people.

You tell'em Jay, if your dumb enough to not give any thought to what you have tattooed on your body then don't whine about it later!

Chris Behrman Rules!

I didn't hear the thing about the pretty two ball, but hearing a young CB, fresh out of an Ivy League school, Brown I believe, was pretty cool. He is the Man at ESPN, Period. I like his enthusiasm when he talked about the fact that of the 93 World Championships that had been played up until that point, that Willie and Irving had one an astounding 24 of them. Willie with 15, F*&%ing 15, and Mr. Crane with 9! I thought it was cool hearing his voice acknowledging two of our sports greatest with genuine admiration at what they had accomplished.

So, let me be sure I understand you, it doesn't matter to you if the individual is the best qualified, if you don't care for the way the individual looks, you wouldn't hire them, does these include color, race, & religion also?
Well, I guess the good news for you is we probably wouldn't want to work for someone with that type of discriminatory way of thinking anyway!

Is it descrimination to have the best person for the job? Maybe strip clubs should fire all the hot chicks with big tits and hire short, fat and 3 teeth max girls, must be a few of them looking to work!

Is it descrimination to have the best person for the job? No it isn't, like I questioned previously what if the individual was the most qualified, obviously you wouldn't hire them because you don't care for their looks!Maybe strip clubs should fire all the hot chicks with big tits and hire short, fat and 3 teeth max girls, must be a few of them looking to work! There's certainly a time & a place for everything but, I guess if you're going to compare a fortune 500 company with a strip club that pretty much answers my question!

I simply don't think you can paint everything/everyone with one braod stroke, sometimes you may be quite surprised.

yes it would be considered disrimination not tohire someone because of a tattoo,if the person was right for the job all they would have to do is cover it up, thats not that hard to do, and i wasnt event talking about a fortune 500 company , narrow mined thinking is what has our country in the trouble it is in now, now im not calling you narrow minded so lets not start s big deal out of it:wink: but this thread was about things that dont belong on tv and someone made a comment about tattoos i was saying i dont see a problem with people who have tattoos playing pool on tv, in fact the women have more tattoos showing and isee them on tv way way more than mens pool

Gosh, speaking of things that don't belong in billiards on TV, how about Railbird sporting tattoos[byjay]? Oh no, not that! Anything but that!

:D

Just tryin' to put the levity back into this thread,
-Sean
