Things you don't like in cues...

I don't care for those ringtail lizard wraps. On some cues they are tolerable, but I've seen some high end cues with them and it's really bad to my eyes.

And staining birdseye maple. Why stain one of the best looking woods? Another member and I ordered similar cues from the same maker around same time, his was gray-stained birdseye and mine bocote. He was charged a deposit and I wasn't. I can only reason it was because of the stain.

I agree. Most cuemakers will require a deposit on a cue that they feel will be hard to sell if the buyer backs out. A gray stained forearm would fit into that category, IMO.

Black with white speck linen wrap on a custom cue. All black, leather, or wrapless, please. I see so many nice new custom cues and black with white speck wrap just makes them look inexpensive, as almost all production cues are wrapped the same way.

Python snake wraps, especially the ones that smell like a dead snake.

Crappy rounded off arrow heads that cover crappy rounded off points - ala DP.

Limbsavers (shheeeesh).

After today, I don't like anything in any of my cues. None of 'em would make balls into a hole.

Now I thought I was having an issue "getting it in the hole" in my personal life, but this is ridiculous. After all that money spent, none will make the balls.

Jazz <--- NOT in denial, I'm sure it's the cues and not me

Jazz, you need a limbsaver.....or maybe a few hundred for all those fine cues you got !!

Most notably, rattles, chirps, squeaks..........or one that misses everything!

Rounded points and inlays...
Short Ferrells ...
Bacote unless it is extremely figured...
Warpage...
Visible sugar spots in the shaft ...
Brown phenolic joints and butt caps ...

my dislikes

bacote
small shaft collars
cues without collars
fancy cues with just a simple plain silver ring at the joint(mcwhorter, blud etc)
cues with inlays on the butt but not the forearm
cues without basic symmetry
white butt caps with black joints
g10 pins
sneaky petes with the points 3 inches from the joint
I could go on all day!

BTW really good thread I needed to vent a little

Cues you can buy in the shopping mall that come in a factory sealed package

Screw on tips

Weight stickers

This is going to offend some people...Light-up cues

Aluminum cues with a spring loaded shaft that doesn't spring out

I agree ring tail lizard just looks bad to me, I dont like stag or buck horn, aor any horn on cues, Walrus ivory is bad too, i dont like the gray or grey color of it. some woods I dont like either(cant think of any now) stained wood is bad, all natural.

Chalk rings on ferrels irrates me too, slip on tips really suck, un even points to a certain extent its hard to get them perfect,

Sharp veneers and rounded points(tips) on the whole point-did I say that right?

Pictures on cues like Predator break cues with the cat on it, cue works good but the cat has to go,

I dont like it when ring work like dots dont line up right, 20 years ago that was common, now the guys are doing alot better at lining up the rings.

Glue lines or sharpie markers to cover up mistakes(i understand why its done on a $250 cue but on expensive cues its aweful).

Fake Ivory or Fake anything for that matter.

I know this is gonna sound weird but i'm sick of fancy BEM, I have became a purist I like straight grain maple like Bushka used, until a couple years ago I liked satin maple, fiddle back, the more figure the better-not no more, plane jane with fancy wood accents.

Too many rings-but that depends on the cue maker, Ed Pruitt can us as many as he likes, but Barry I like one ring only. It just depends on the look of the cue.

ok i'm done no but ya know what? I havent seen a cue I didnt like. i love them all, just some more than others.

less is more

cues with a zillion inlays, shafts that have been bleached so white they hurt your eyes.
