According to Hal, he taught Efren. Bet a LOT of people will disagree with that statement, but that's what Hal told me;)

He didn't teach Efren and Hal told me that he has never met Efren in his life. The only thing he told me was that about 4 or 5 filipinos came over to see him while he was in California and taught them the systems. These guys are younger than Efren so I don't know that Efren even uses one of Hal's systems.
Matter of fact I am on the phone with him right now.

#12 ranked Neslie O'Hare explains what she was taught. "The technique I use was taught to me by EFREN REYES. According to Efren, there are three kinds of hits on any object ball. First, there's looking at the center of cue ball to the point of aim if the shot is a full hit. If not, you can divide the object ball into four quarters, sighting your cue ball edge to point of aim. When using english with a medium-to-hard stroke,, you don't change the point of aim. With outside english, you aim a sixteenth of an inch fuller on the object ball than you normally would. But all bets are off when using a soft stroke because of deflection etc."

Efren Reyes, ranked #5 and winner of last month's Sands Regency title, further explains. "When you put a lot of english on the cue ball you adjust a little bit often aiming exactly at the contact point of an object ball. So it very much depends on my next shot how I will aim".

I read Neslie O'Hare was taught by Efren how to aim.

Several years ago Hal took time to call me and he taught me one three of his systems over the phone while I was at my table.

I lost patience while trying to adapt to his primary system and went back to the ghost ball and I think I might have posted to that effect on the CCB.

After a couple years of not playing at all I've started playing again and I've gone back to the system that Hal tried to teach me. Hal's system has become the best thing since the proverbial sliced bread.

My thanks to Hal for improving my game and makeing the game much more enjoyable for me.

I though Hal was posting as kildegirl... or something like that.

He was but only because he couldn't figure out how to log in as himself. He's back to posting as halhoule.

As far as I'm concerned, he can log in any way he wants. I wish he would just write a book with the assistance of you and Bill and get it over with. I can't follow instructions unless I have something to look at.

Now, that's odd, because I'm sure that's what he told me. He said Efren uses his system and I'm quite sure he told me that he taught it to him in California.

That is odd.
Another man name Marvin at Hard Times claims he has this system the pros secretly use.
Another man told me uses Efren's secret system.

oh crap!....maybe I screwed up? I had a thread about an alignment issue I was having and "kildegirl" pm'd me a few times with a PH# and an address to call and come over to work on the system. At first I thought it was Hal, but then maybe spam...because the pms were a little different...now I feel I might have screwed up!

I'm only like an hour from the address he gave me, and said come over anyday 10am.

Sorry Hal if it was you. I was just being cautious.

This is like one of those stories where someone says something and you're supposed to pass it on - and when it gets to the end it's all messed up.

I think I remember he told me something to the effect that he discussed it with several road playing Filipinos back when Efren was going by Caesar Morales. He told them the concept and they were supposed to meet him to learn his system further, but didn't show up - something like that. Hal is convinced the Filipinos use a system simlar to his. I think he believes they picked up on his concept from him.

If he is convinced Efren and other Filipino pros use it, there might something to that.
Or one can call Alex the owner of Stix and get lessons from him.

I believe it is Hal....
I would like to see Hal put his knowledge into print. It would truly be "THE HOLY GRAIL" of the pool world. All the top instructors respect Hal and talk about him with reverence. I believe Ralph Greenleaf also used this system. The knowledge that he has shared has been kept pretty tight lipped. What I do know is some good players have became great players because of his help. Also I have heard this system is actively being taught in the Philippines. Take notice.... there is something to it. JMHO.

talked to him about that

Hal and I had a long conversation a few months back. He didn't think that a book would effectively teach his method and he has absolutely no intention or writing one or unfortunately even leaving the information behind for anyone else to write one. Some of the things that Hal says are tongue in cheek so I could be mistaken but I think his wife has instructions to destroy his notes in the event of his death. He is willing to teach a few one on one but it seems that he isn't interested in teaching the world.

I just got off the phone with Hal, after an hour and a half. He says he didn't teach Efren. My mistake. He met Efren in Southern California years before he moved East, and did discuss it with him. There were four Filipinos, one of whom he says was Parica.
He is now posting under "halhoule".

You got it buddy.

And to the person who mentioned that Greenleaf may have used Hal's system, I can tell you that he did not. Hal ran with Ralf for several years and Hal said he didn't use any system. That Ralf was just a savant on the table and couldn't explain how he did what he did. One story he did share about Ralf was that he could make a shot, on queue, that most could never make in their lifetime and that was a double-wing shot. I wish there was video because that is one I would love to have seen.

Take care buddy,
Koop

Hal told me the same thing and more about Greenleaf. Also, stuff about Mosconi, Caras, Crane, Welker Cochran. That took up most of the conversation. Glad I have Vonage;)

While Greenleaf may not have had any aiming system, Hal may choose to tell you about Ralph Greenleaf's "GOLDEN ANGLE". ;)
