Thinking of trying this:

Anyone here tried something like this?

The linen wrap just seems a bit too slippery for my liking. I think a rubber grip might give me more control.

What say you guys? :)

I like Leather for a little extra grip... have tried a few w/ rubber grips and they aren't too bad though... never really tried linen have always had either wrapless or leather.

Little risk

I've tried it. I didn't like the additional
weight and the balance change of
the cue. That said, you are only risking
a couple of bucks, give it a shot.

Ive played with a few that had rubber wraps and they seemed alright for playing. one thing I did notice, was taking them out of the case, depending on your case of course, the rubber will sometimes pull the liner out with your cue.

Are you kidding me? It only weighs about 1/2 oz. Those rubber pullover things are used by LOTS of 3-cushion players...and they love them.

Actually, the rubber carom grips come in all different thicknesses, lengths, and textures. Some of them are well over 1 oz. They can easily change how the cue feels in your hands, especially the diameter.

That said, I played with several of them for a few years, and really liked them.

In general, the thin ones last a few months, before they develop a small tear just from lightly brushing against the table on some strokes. The thicker ones can last a couple of years.

Like stated above, they are only a few bucks, so give them a try.

There are a couple videos floating around on how to install them. Its highly recommended you watch the video, as installing them is not intuitive.

Best

i love my roll on rubber wrap that i use on my break cue. i think you'll love it bro. might have some problems if you use an instroke and the wrap comes unglued and rolls on you though

I've played with the rubber predator sport grip on a playing cue. Seemed like a pretty good grip. But that one has lots of 'tread', it's not just smooth rubber... which might feel completely different.

Still, give it a try, if you're not happy with the current wrap you have to try SOMEthing.

This is a good point. If you don't like the "tready" grip of some of the carom rubber grips, try turning them inside-out first, before installing them onto your cue. This way the "tready" surface is against the cue surface, and the smooth inside surface (which would normally be against the cue surface) is now your grip.

There's a good plethora of carom rubber grips available:

Hope this is helpful,

I put a roll on rubber grip on my orange crush break cue works great. You should give it a try on your playing cue, small investment maybe great rewards.

I had this happen and it was a real pain. I liked the grip (it was on my break cue) but it did pull the liner free from my cue case (apparently the liner was only glued into place). The first time it happened it took about 10 minutes to get my cue out of the case. The liner bound up tightly on the way out.

It was a Talisman case and had some other quality problems so perhaps other cases will not suffer the same fate. I can only use that tube in the case for a wrapless cue as the liner is loose.

Sometimes the case pulled the wrap down on the cue (the wrap wasn't glued). I eventually glued the wrap so it would stay put.

Right now there's a very tight fit between the case and the butt, so with a rubber grip I think there's going to be a problem stowing my cue.

The inserts are made from some sort of plastic though, so I think I might buy a rasp and widen one of them that way to accommodate the butt once the rubber grip arrives.

The alternative would be to remove the linen wrap and then add the rubber grip. ...But I don't think that's such a good idea as A: It would lower the resale value of the butt, and B: I quite like the idea of having some extra thickness on the butt for some reason.

Oh btw, I would post a link to my case, but suddenly I can't do that because I've recently got negative rep for saying that I thought Earl Strickland acts like a loud graceless aggressive childish paranoid redneck most of the time. If you'd like a link, please give me some positive rep so I can post links again, and I will do so.
