This is gonna hurt dcc

JCIN - I think you forgot about the Pinoys. All the best matches the past few years have been with the Pinoys. Alex, Dennis, Efren, Busty. I am sorry, I cannot take another DCC with some of the same antics of some of the players that fill the action room that I have witnessed the past few years. It gets old and is not interesting to me.

And some of the best pool I have seen is watching Corey play Rafael and Corey playing Frost one pocket.

Mark Griffin - You are just being too nice. Yes the WPA only sanctions an event and doesn't choose dates but they could put some intelligent reasoning behind their sanctioning. Would that be too much to ask for? How about telling the Germans that the timing only makes sense due to some trade show but not to the rest of the pool world? Must be a hell of a trade show if they are going to spend $100K to put on a tournament to help promote it. Maybe the WPA doesn't speak German

Watchez,

I think you are pretty bright business guy. I understand you are upset about the DCC; however, how can you blame the WPA for the conflict?

The WPA requires a sanctioning fee. One entity pays the sanctioning fee and the other doesn't. Sorry, but the business side of me says that the entity paying the sanctioning fee is the one who can choose the dates. It is just business.

I get it that you are mad that some of the top players won't be at the DCC and I agree with you. However, just like all businesses the guy with the most cash to offer wins.

I am sure if the DCC would offer the players they want there an appearance fee in the absence of the same type of prize money, they would get them. However, that would be a bad business decision too.

I agree, again, that it will hurt the DCC for a few of the top players not to be there. However, I don't understand why you are blaming the WPA. The top players ultimately decide where they are going. Whichever tournament is more lucrative will be the one they go to.

It makes more sense to me to blame the players than the WPA or the other tournament; however, I don't blame any of them. That is just the way it goes sometimes.

JMO, of course. Flame away.

Busty and Efren are going to be there, Alex doesnt even play pool anymore and Dennis only comes once in awhile anyway.

I guess anyone who decides not come because of some percieved lack of talent at the event has that right I just don't see it.

As for not liking the guys in the action room that is the beauty of the Derby there is always something else going on. This year will be no different.

I was pissed when I heard the news but after thinking about it I really don't think it will be that big of a deal unless we all decide to make it one. I don't give a shit if the top two players to show up are Disco and Easy-E I will be at the Derby every year I am able.

Ill be at the tourny in Germany bud, sorry.

I thought you might pull that move if you knew you were gonna lose your weight loss bet. It takes a special kind of nit to go to Europe instead of shipping the $50 for being fat.

It's a shame too because your girl MH told me she was gonna take you out for drinks at the Derby.

This is just my opinion, you may not agree. I for one don't want to go pay money to watch 9 ball matches, when there is no Archer, SVB, Mika, Ralf, Thorsten, Neils, Aplleton, Lee Van Corteza, or any other top player that goes over there to make some real money. I don't care if there's 1000 entrants. These guys are most of the top players of the last 5 or 6 years.

Also there are very few people that actually make money at the DCC. With hotel prices where they are, and the cost of fuel. That doesn't even cover the entry fee into all the Tournaments for 9 or 10 days. If I was a great player and got the offer to go play in the WPA tournament instead of DCC, I would in a heart beat. Like I said, just one man's opinion.

I definitely understand your opinion and respect you for sharing it. :)

Adding 400k to a tourney without entry fees is a pretty strong commitment to the game. I would have to say that I expect the players to get paid in this one and that is a good thing for pool. I doubt they looked for a way to spite the DCC, scheduling events, getting a spot at a venue and all of the other details for huge event were probably all done long ago and the conflict with the dates was probably not recognized until the wheels were already in motion.

I think anyone not going to DCC because they do not want to buy a wristband is understandable after all some players will not be there and I am sure those player make DCC what it is for those people not willing to buy a band after all they do cost $15. However I will be attending myself because I love pool and want to see the best action event in this country year after year. So, If they do not want to see 24/7 action and some of the best pool in the world then they should save their cash. I do not see Diamond handing out coupons for discounted spectator entries due to this other tourney in Germany, so they should probably stay home. I think the remaining 300+ players will still be a very strong field.

I do have a question in closing, will diamond be setting up a booth in Germany at the tradeshow?

I think Diamond should be there as that is a huge market, sounds like a huge show and the Diamond table is world class. The Europeans would be buying it, at least in my opinion.

Who are these "rest of the pool world" if you don't mind me asking? As I figure in global stage, the majority of the "rest of the pool world" never even set foot in the USA, and the WPA Team tournament makes more sense to them than DCC.

On another note, if you are a great player and you are asked to attend a WPA tournament to represent USA with no monetary gain (assuming BCA will cover your expenses) will you still go?

I asked this because even though Efren and Busty are two of the best gamblers in pool and they are named to represent the Philippines, they will very likely to skip DCC.

People around here in the US should recognize by now that WPA events are country-oriented instead of personality. Their responsibilities tend towards the member organizations of WPA and not to any promoter.

What is being missed is that their responsibility does NOT seem to be the PLAYERS OR THE GAME.

Who could argue that the players would not love to have the chance to cash in BOTH events?

Who could argue that the fans and sponsors wouldn't love to have the strongest fields at BOTH events?

Two thumbs down to the bureaucrats, two thumbs up to the organizers of the DCC. I'll be in Louisville.

Their goal is for a wider acceptance of the game around the world. That is WPA's single most important responsibility when they listed under the International Olympics Committee.

I seriously doubt that Team Philippines will consist of Efren, Django and Alex.

Most likely Ronato Alcano, Dennis Orcullo and Lee Van Corteza will be 3 of the 4 Filipinos playing, and only Lee Van is a regular at DCC. (Plus, I've been told that Efren and Django will be at DCC)

SVB, Corey Deuel, Johnny Archer and Oscar Dominguez will play for Team USA.

Ralf, Darren, Niels and Marcus all told me they will play World Team event, and won't make the DCC.

Last year I think Ralf, Darren, Niels, Katrine, Marcus, Mika, Thorsten, "pooladdict" and I were the only Europeans at DCC, so even though 100 Europeans will play the World Event, only a handful of those 100 used to play the DCC...

I stand corrected.... good call Roy. Philippines Team just announced.

Lee Van Corteza, Dennis Orcullo, Antonio Lining, Warren Kiamco, Ronnie Alcano and Marlon Manalo.
