This is why Pool is COOL...

Ive seen a lot of reasons why pool is cool. But i think we are missing one.

Pool itself is beautiful. The tables and cues are pieces of art. All the colors of the balls, the intricate designs of cues. Watching a ball roll is one of life's pleasures. Who knew that one could do so much to a ball with a stick, chalk, and a leather tip. Which other sport has the beauty of pocket billiards? When I see a nine footer kept in great condition I get butterflies in my stomach.

Also on the table, everyone is equal. Anybody can play well if they desire. It dosen't matter what ethnicity you are, if you are tall, short, skinny, fat, you gain respect from your skills. You will never know how someone plays by their apperance as another person posted.

Pool is cool because of its history. Some very noble people have shared our infatuation with pool. It has been a game of royalty and its been a trick of hustlers.

Most of all, pool is cool because it is FUN.

I never forget why i fell in love with it in the first place. And i wont stop playing till i lose my eyesight.
 
One of my favorite things about pool is the STORIES.

Pool players are naturally good story tellers, but some players have an excellent way of telling stories.

Thanks for all those players that take the time to tell us young pups all those great pool stories.

Because EVERYONE that plays a little, or more than a little, plays like they've got it going good, real good, THEN they can't hit a ball in the ocean :confused:
 
Pool is cool because many in the sport, or game selfishly give back. A Lady who was at one time a National Trick Shot Champion each week gives our New Ladies in the Ladies Club FREE BASIS INSTRUCTION. She loves the game, and shares what she know freely to start many novices out on the path to learning to Play Pool. Judy is Cool for Pool.
 
You can be any race.
You an be any size or shape.
You can be any sex.
You can be religious or non-religious.
You can be young or old.
You can be a foreigner or a local.
You can play it part-time or you can play it full time.
You can play it morning, noon and/or night.
You can play it when the sun is shining or when the moon is bright.
You can play well or you can play poorly.
You can take it serious or not so serious.
It's all the same in pool; it accepts you as you are.
You can leave it and come back anytime you want to and it will still be waiting for you with open arms.
You can play it by yourself or with friends.

Pool is the ultimate melting pot.

True that. Many people do a lot for this game and the people in it without benefit of a big payday in return. Come to think of it, nobody in pool is doing it for a big payday.

CC, you are a gem. If I should ever change my sig line, it may be to that first line in your post. :grin-square:

- I cannot think of any other game/sport that is so gratifying when played well.

- the sounds of balls clicking on a table make my head turn every time.

- some of the nicest people I have ever met, I met when playing pool.

- Pool (like most games/sports) develops character

- Pool (like most games/sports) also displays character

Nice thread, Tom. I agree with you on all the stated reasons.
I also like the variety. Every rack and every layout is fresh and new.
