Thread For People That Want To Throw Their Hat In The Ring & Write A Profile

Glad to read the bolded statement! If I may put you on the spot, what do you plan on studying in school/college? Would you ever consider quitting college to be a professional pool player?

I plan on doing something in wildlife development. Maybe something that will put me outdoors like a wildlife officer. I plan on finishing college before becoming a professional pool player. Just to have something to fall back on if playing pool professionally doesn't work out well.

Thanks for the support!

Anyone who is good enough to contend at the Open will probably go themselves, or can find someone to back them. It seems that the purpose is to send someone who honestly couldn't go to the Open, so as to give him or her a chance to experience it. Tanner sounds like a good choice.

This is supposed to be a charity thing, not an investment in potential tournament winnings.

This sponsorship is for the trip, including flight and lodging expenses, isn't it? It should come to about $1500 (Approximately $500 entry, $500 in hotel, $500 in flight and food) .

I think that is what we did last year and the year before. Of course, I believe it also depends on how much we get.

I love a lot of the guys here, and I have learned a lot from them. I also have a lot of respect for Azers such as Joe Tucker...

In my opinion, Azbilliards.com is not a backer but more a group to help someone to fulfill one's dream; therefore, I believe the nominee should have never been to the US Open, not have the resourses(or have a lot of difficulties otherwise) to go without our supports, be a regular Azers, have showed great love of the game and great improvement over the years.

That is why I nominated Tanner Pruess.

Should we make this a sticky so it is easier to find?

Just my two cents.

Thank you for listening.

Richard

Rude Dog got $1,875 and had his own entry fee. He also shared a room with Bazarus. That's $2,375 with only 1/2 room rental.

Great post, couldn't agree with you more.

Great answer Tanner. You get my vote!

Anyone notice the the thread starter SmorgasBored got banned????

What now?

I heard that my name was mentioned for this again this year. I appreciate the thoughts, but I have no intention of playing or attending the US Open this year.

I support Tanner Pruess' nomination. He is an excellent player, and excellent student of the game, and the look on his face when he plays his first US Open match will be priceless. Tanner, you have my support and I will also be willing to donate my time to help you prepare for this event. Good Luck.

I can't say for sure but the last I saw of him, he made a very tasteless joke in a thead about Tom Ferry.

Personally, I'm not bothered that he's not here. Other than this thread and one or two more, his posts were not conducive to anything going on in the forum. He usually posted something completely off topic that he thought was funny (most didn't think so) and then he would go back and delete it a short while later. A few months ago he was posting with a vengence and everytime I saw there was a new post in a particular thread, I would go to it and it was just him posting something silly & off topic. After that I made it a point to make sure who the last poster was and NOT click on the thread if it was him.

Back on topic.... I think I'm going to have to flip a coin this yr... tough choices for sure. ;)

Exactly right, this is about rewarding an active poster on our forum that has a respectable resume in competition, not about picking a winner. It just baffles me when pros are nominated.

With over 1200 posts on this forum and a rock solid competitive record, Jimmy M really seems an obvious choice to me.

It would be nice, however, if we raised enough money to send Jimmy M and Tanner or some other amateur that is a regular contributor on this forum.

My qualifications...

In another tournament..... I beat the guy that just beat Jimmy for the 10-Ball championship here in Az.

So that means that I have just as much chance......Oh Hell...just send Jimmy!!!!.....

In reality, I would LOVE the opportunity to play in the US Open, but it just seems kind of rediculous to try and post a resume that can beat what Jimmy has posted all over the Azpoolscene...

I don't think I am letting any cats out of the bag here... Jimmy IS a pro....that just happens to work for a living.....anyone that has seen him play knows that the only separation between him and any of the guys you see on TV is the fact that he has a JOB......(anyone that can beat Scott Frost twice in one tournament is a PRO in my book)

I doubt I would get any votes anyway...(heck I can't even get more than one green dot)....

Oh well...maybe I will win the lottery and go anyway...

I vote for sending Keith McCready. How about AZ sponsoring someone who has a legitimate chance to win?

If not Keith, then a strong player like Jimmy M...or Rude Dog, or someone at that skill level.

Just my two cents.....

You can sponsor me matt. :p :p heh

the SD Kid Shane Van Boning has the best chance of doing the best of any of the AZ posters...IMO

I think Shane is a fantastic player!

and a very nice young man.

But, the truth is, I knocked him out of the US Open last year and put him on the losers side at the Super Billiards Expo last month.

i think he is gaining experience all the time and will be a future champ....he lost to Johnny Archer 11-10 at the SML event......IMO he has a great chance of winning the US OPEN ..

If Shane keeps his head on straight, I also think he has a very bright future in this sport.

I just wanted to point out that this was a pretty classy response David, the opportunity for anyone (old or young) that's not a pro to play in the US Open doesn't present itself everyday and for you to wish the opportunity on a young player who's yet to attend the Open is a pretty nice thing to do on your part.

Dave,

That is a very classy respond.
Thank you.

By the way, Tanner, if the total money comes short, will you be able to put up some money to cover the remaining balance?

Yes, I should be able to. I have a part time job and mow a few yards in the summer. ;) I wouldn't mind putting my money towards a dream of mine. Parents are still talking it over though. Deciding which airline and hotel to stay at, just in case I get to go.

I always like to read Blackjack's posts. They are well written and contain tons of information. I really like the instructional articles that he made. I have emailed him once or twice to get some articles that cover weakspots in my game. He has even said he would help me with my game even if I don't get to go to the U.S. Open. I already feel like I am a winner with that offer!

Thanks Blackjack and everybody!

That Blackjack is a classy guy is no secret in these parts.

Ok I am sure I will get bashed for this. even though its NOT intended to be negative in any way.....and YES I agree that BlackJack is a VERY classy guy and one of the best written word instructors in the business...(have not had the opportunity to learn in person from him, but I have read pretty much all of his lessons on line)

I would like to play Devil's Advocate for a second.

Tanner although I am sure is very motivated and since he is still the innocent kid has that "lovable" quality, and obviously has a bright future in this sport, may NOT be the right choice for the simple reason that he has MANY years in front of him.

As evident from recent tragic news of the loss of OHB....there are some deserving qualified posters on this board that I am sure would love to (even if not play) attend the US Open. and have never had the opporunity. (Not that OHB never had the opportunity, but there are players that are near his caliber on this board that did not choose pool as a money making business as OHB did)

Please don't get me wrong. I am all for the "future" of pool, but from what I read of Tanners background, he will have many "opportunities" in the near future.

I am not saying don't vote for him, all I am really trying to say is don't vote for "the lovable kid"

My personal vote would be for someone like CptnJR.

Even though I don't always agree with his posts, he has a dedication to this board, and is not afraid to contribute ideas and concepts. (even if they are wrong:eek: ....JK )

He is the perfect example of someone who has not chosen pool as a "career" but has shown a dedication to being a "student" of the game.

That is the type of person I would like see get the "opportunity" (that may otherwise not get)
