Threads I Hate The Most

I Can't Stop TYPING

I'd like to thank Jude, Randy G. and SJM for not pointing me out by name. I know that I am guilty of inserting my goofy one liners into pool related threads, but they are not intended to be mean spirited.... only humorous.

I posted a thread topic in the Main Forum that was not appropriate and when pointed out by others, I fully agreed. I PMed Mr.Wilson and asked for it to be removed and it was.

I played pool for over 40 years, gambled (with my net worth & rent money), bet the rail, staked players, traveled to tournaments, ran weekly & monthly tournaments for 8 years and love pool. Throughout that, I never played well enough to give instructions to others. I leave that to you experts.

I have played pool with a great number of AZBers and enjoyed every moment, but health now prevents me from playing any longer. AZB is my last contact with game and the friends that I have met along the way. I'm relegated to sweating matches and seeing what's on the Menu.

I will try to do better in where and what I post, but I suspect that my contribution to AZB may contain mostly feeble attempts at humor. At least I trim the quoted material and keep most of my posts to brief one-liners.

If I've grown so old that I'm mostly aggravating and in everyone's way, then the Moderators can simply ban me from AZB and I'll have to move on to the next stage in my life.

Oddly, though guilty of what Jude is complaining about, I agree with his opinion of the current state of affairs. Sometimes, I just can't help myself. It's my evil hand that posts so much crap.....

Perhaps you should be more mindful in the fact that you are not the only audience.

Many posters have said this and I must agree...if you are too lazy to skip past posts that you are not interested in, then you have a major issue. Get a grip and a clue.

I agree with this assessment and Jam's perspective as well. I don't see why it is such a big deal to just skip the threads that you don't want to read. I have made a lot of friends and aquaintances on this forum that are "pool" based obviously because that is what we all have in common, but why should I not be allowed to ask these same friends something that isn't necessarily pool based? If you meet someone in the pool hall do you strictly talk about billiards and nothing else? And before you say, NPR, NPR like you always do, the same groups of people do not frequent the NPR like they do the main forum. I think that you are very much in the minority here on your assessment of the main forum and what people want and don't want.

Meanwhile back in Jude's world....

1. Misleading/Incomplete Titles

Please, don't let us wait until we click on the thread to find out you have no worthy opinion. Let everyone know from the main-page from now on so we don't waste our time!
Jude, I totally agree with you here. Misleading/incomplete titles are my biggest pet peeve of this forum.

I agree with everyone who have said to skip over threads that don't pique your interest. But how are you supposed to know if a thread is worth your time if the thread title is completely misleading or incomplete?

Also, making the thread title be actually somewhat related to the subject of the thread really helps out the forums when doing a search. It's much easier to narrow things down by searching for a word or phrase in the title instead of an all out general search.

I'm all for diverse, humorous, and slightly off-topic threads, but please just keep the title of the thread somewhat accurate.

I just did a search, and got back 65,345 posts about threads!@#

I've heard that Jude is a lights out shooter, and is a great guy in person, but, I also have the same "My way or the highway" feeling coming across from Jude on the AZ. Sorry Jude, no offense. Sometimes text does not come across the same way as the spoken word, and a lot of this may be unintentional.

Values are subjective...that is, each of us likes stuff that others may not like. The beauty of the internet (and liberty in general) is each can choose, easily and cheaply, his/her preferences.:)

Before this wonderful place, you'd have to subscribe to a rag, wait to read, wait to respond, wait to read, etc. All the while costing money, time, and whatever. Months vs. seconds.

One size does not fit all....I loved my cheapass Kmart Mizerak cue before it finally gave out. I wouldn't want buy a Joss West, e.g., as I'd have to care for it too much. To each his own.

And similar threads always seem to take a different, interesting path eventually. I think this is good for me. Someone puts a different take on things and this makes me think. If I just searched out the old threads again, I'd miss out on that. But those are just my preferences, not an advocation for top-down control of us here.;)

Jude, I am glad to see you still have your sense of humor considering that your words have been twisted and lots of people don't really seem to be listening to you. Keep your head up, man!:D ;)

How can I not laugh? Everybody thinks I'm trying to take away their right to free speech. I mean, if I could, don't they realize I would have done that a long time ago?

Is This The Proper Forum To Choose The Super Bowl Teams ?

Well, I just completed a search to determine just how big a pain the ass I had become and I was surprised to find that I'd only posted in TWO of the first 139 threads currently on the Main forum (that's seven pages for those of you with 20 threads per page).

( OK, three if you count this one about counting this one ) :)

Dear 147,

Please refrain from your transparent request to add to your greenie jar. You already have plenty. :D :D :D

I'd like to, really I would, but I'm heading out to the poker room for the day.
Doug
( besides, you said in that OSPD thread that you didn't want any jokes )

Remove those handcuffs, my friend. Set yourself free. Take the dog off the chain. Unleash the dog in you. OK, go play poker. Hope you win.

My compliments to Jude!

Jude,

I compliment you for your civil manner by which you are responding to your dissenters! Far too often on this forum, when a disagreement arises, it turns into an ego infested, name-calling, free-for-all. You obviously understand that not everyone agrees with you, and to your credit, you even concede on occasion, but you haven't lost your cool.

I happen to value a good post with a side of humor injected from time-to-time. I also am sympathetic to the bad titles and such. I guess I have a higher tollerance for frivolity than you, but it does not make you a bad person to want the forum cleaned up a bit.

My wife likes OUR house to be completely void of clutter... I happen to be a natural born slob. Order in the house just isn't as important to me as it is to her  . I suspect we have a similar issue here. Not all of us care about what you care about. But I do respect the fact that you care about it.

Thanks for posting; I think we all can do better.

Smorgass Bored I find that I am a lot like you in the way I respond to threads. I don't often step in to offer advice because I know there are many other knowledgable people on this board that could better assist than I. So I most often relegate my responses to lame attempts at humor. Not saying your attempt at humor is ever lame though. Just mine. :D

And don't let anyones opinion of forum ettiquete get in the way of you posting. Keep up the good posts.

I think we're very much on the same page and thanks for your comments. I mean, perhaps I SHOULD care less but I really don't want to.

2. NPR

It's amazing how people can relate ANYTHING to pool. Seriously, we are days away from seeing a thread about septic tanks and 9ball. Amazingly, I searched for "septic tank" and got 6 hits. Before you submit, ask yourself, is this what I would discuss with the poolroom's best player?

3. Revisited Topics

Ugh. There are now 158 THREADS with "OB-1" in the title. Unless your thread is about OB-1 versus Godzilla (which I think has yet to be discussed), perhaps you might want to consider reviewing previous posts before starting an entirely new thread about your new love.

4. Player Obsessions

I never thought AZB would become a fan site. From my time on rsb to the Chalk Board and now azb, I always believed we were all pool players. Boy was I wrong. I thought forums would be great places to gain information. People like Wei have devoted an incredible amount of their time to provide us with amazing tools to use and youtube only enhances that experience yet every day there will undoubtedly be a new thread about one of ten players and how someone saw them on tv. I really don't care if Johnny Archer wears Fruit of the Looms. I really really really don't care.

5. Politics

Usually 95% of the people involved in these threads have no financial interest in them whatsoever yet they're always willing to contribute their two cents.

I really do enjoy questions about rules and unusual shot scenarios and amazingly, many of the best contributors of late are relatively new members. I hope members like Klockdoc, uwate, azbluemach1 and a plethora of others continue to contribute to play-related threads. I may not always agree with what you have to say but I'm very glad we're actually talking about pool.

Sigh. I'm done venting.

Those loose ones, where you pull on them and they never break. They just get longer and longer :(

Jude, I thought you were leaving already!! Welcome back you big crybaby.

And FYI, the forum hasn't gotten worse. My God man - Mr. Wilson and crowd has cleaned it up quite a bit. Remember the days of DriverMaker?! You just have a very selective memory.....and like to twist the facts to make your opinions look 'God-like'. As a matter of fact, I would say the this forum has vastly improved!

But then you come back to remind us of what NPR posters we are in general. I remember you wallering around in the mud with the rest of the forum quite a few times- but I forget, YOUR SH!% doesn't stink.

Jude, you have some great pool advice, and I like your posts in general, but please keep posts like this one OFF the forum LOL.
