I have a mid size cue lathe from chris and does not have a rear chuck on the headstuck. Do i really need to get that 3jaw chuck steady rest? does it help to make the spin really true? Thanks for the info guys..Going to expo today and i want to know if i really need it.

I used the same lathe for cue repairs and got by fine without a chuck based steady rest. That's not to say though if you had one you would probably find ways to use it.

If you do any kind of building at all it really helps to have a chick type steady rest.
Even just to steady full rods when cutting ferrules.
I use mine when re tipping carom cues, as the taper is so thick using the bearing steady rest doesn't really work.
I reccomend them.

What is a chick type steady rest? Is that a Canadian thing, eh?

I have a chuck steady rest with the double bearing. I use it on my deluxe. It is the greatest thing since sliced bread......... I love it and use it all the time.
