Tickets on sale for Chicago !!!

I get free popcorn at the Honda dealer.

Now if you want to deal with professional conmen then forget about the IPT and go talk with a car salesman. They go to school to learn how to get the best deal. And then they practice on each other. What chance do I, the lowly customer, have?

Are there any Honda salesmen out there that can tell me how I can get them to come down from MSLP? I am told people are paying over MSLP. I have cash in hand, well a check, and they look at me like I am nuts for wanting to pay less than MSLP.

I have come to the conclusion that the players WILL be paid, along with some feeble excuse for the delay. I also feel that there will be a good turnout for the Chicago event, despite the wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth. I think that Deno and KT will be in attendance with great big smiles, as if everything has been going according to plan all along.

Personally I think you may be right. If so, it will raise 3 interesting questions, assuming the checks get sent out in the next week or so:
1) How many, if any, of the current IPT tour members or qualifiers will not turn up for this tournament?
2) If any players don't turn up will they lose their tour cards for the rest of '06 and have to re-qualify if they want to play in '07? (If there is an '07 of course)
3) Who will be prepared to leave Chicago without their check in hand?

I also have plenty of popcorn on hand, as Cub Scouts have been selling it outside local supermarkets all week. The day I can't take out an 8 year old with a round-house is the day I quit kick-boxing for good ;-)

It would be interesting to see....

Even though I've been straddling the fence as an interested spectator, I know that many here have been waiting with bait on their breath for my opinion on the IPT, so I'm going to give one.

I have read EVERY post in EVERY thread for the past year concerning the IPT. I have followed closely the optimists and the pessimists and releases from the IPT. I have weighed all the information and cast dried chicken bones on the floor in order to 'read the bones'....

( and I think that popcorn will be available at the Chicago event )

That's an interesting scenario.....Deno and KT in attendance at the Chicago event, smiling as if nothing was wrong.....How many of these forum posters would speak up and give them a piece of their minds? I recall one poster (I don't remember who) who stated he would punch KT in the mouth if he saw him because of these payment delays........

[QUOTE from Aunty Dan - Personally I think you may be right. If so, it will raise 3 interesting questions, assuming the checks get sent out in the next week or so:

1) How many, if any, of the current IPT tour members or qualifiers will not turn up for this tournament?

In those circumstances you describe they will surely almost certainly all turn up,except the usual drop outs for reasons unrelated to this issue

2) If any players don't turn up will they lose their tour cards for the rest of '06 and have to re-qualify if they want to play in '07? (If there is an '07 of course)

Unless they're in the top 41 there is no "rest of 2006" anyway and the chance of a top 41 'probable' who has been paid for Reno not showing up for Chicago is remote in the extreme. As regards the second part of your question no-one likely to finish in the top 100 and who has been paid is likely to 'no show' over past delayed payment issues. In the unlikely event that they did no show and that they publicly cited concern over the fact that they'd had delayed payment from Reno as being the prime reason why they no showed, the past attitudes displayed by IPT/KT would suggest a likelihood that IPT would at least take a very dim view of their commitment and loyalty levels and a likelihood that one way or another they wouldn't be playing in any other IPT event for the foreseable future

3) Who will be prepared to leave Chicago without their check in hand?

Well, the reality is that if they've turned up and played just as they have done at every other IPT event and are then told that payment will come later they ain't got much choice in the matter, whether they're "prepared" to leave without their cheque or not.Frankly,if they've been paid for Vegas and Reno, why shouldn't they feel reasonably comfortable in the assumption that they'll be paid for Chicago in due course?

JMHO,not knocking, criticising or doom mongering, simply answering the specific questions posed in (I hope) a logical manner:)

You are kidding right?

If the players get paid, big if, anytime before Chicago they will all be hot footing it to Chicago. There isn't a one of them that wouldn't go. Well, maybe one or two. But hell, what else do they have to do? Go play in some small rinky dink tournament where they won't be able to make expenses.

The rewards at the IPT can be a lot higher than any other tournament so they will be there. If they don't get paid it will just be like going two and out or two and one or two and two and out of the money. At least they will have fun.

Now I never said that pool players are smart.

That was the same thinking of all the Air America radio employees too. Yep, right up until the bankruptcy papers were filed.

You really should stop beating your chicken Doug.

fleet manager

Since you can get service at any dealer after a car is bought, call every dealership within a hundred or two hundred mile radius and get the fleet manager's name and fax number. If there isn't a fleet manager, get the sales manager's name and fax number. Print out exactly what you want from an options list and attach it to a cover requesting bids.

Worked for me when I was looking for a very hot vehicle at the time. I got bids as low as $300 over dealer cost, not counting their quarterly kick-back of course. Best part, the only time I spent with a salesman was when he was writing up the sale for the fleet manager. No pressure, no BS.

I have found that I can request bids on many things and get responses. Beats going all over hell and creation chasing prices once you know what you want.

Exactly. So in this scenario, even with the all bitterness and mis-trust this episode has generated, there is still nothing else better for the players to do. Therefore all the negative comments in all the forums in all the world appear to me irrelevant as none of them I've seen have proposed any better options*, assuming the IPT does not actually fold altogether.

Jake,
Go to another dealership. Only this time, don't tell them that you are paying cash until after you negotiate the price. Dealerships will be hesitant to come down off sticker price for a cash sale because they don't make as much money as a financed deal.

Also, look here: http://beatthecarsalesman.com/ for more tips. After studying the information on this website, my last auto purchase was one of the easiest and most pleasant experiences I have ever had. I never felt any pressure whatsoever and there was no runaround, even on my trade-in. I basically did everything over the internet-- financing, shopping, negotiation --the whole deal. It was great.

Though they wouldn't spring for free popcorn. :(
