First off I'm new to the site and want to say hello. I have been out of the game for 5 years. I got the itch over this winter and have been hitting them a couple times a week.

My question is what are the latest in new tips out there? I play with a scruggs sneaky pete thay I love, hits like a brick. I Have a hard Le Pro on one shaft and a Triangle on the other. It's not that I'm not happy with them just want to know if there is something new out there that I should give a try.

Kamui Blacks seems to be one of the more popular tips these days. Keep in mind, if you want to try one, that they "feel" harder than they are rated. So a medium feels like most other hard tips, etc...

Which tip seems harder the Le Pro or the Triangle?

What is it that you are not happy about? Do you want harder or softer or what?...JER
 
Kamuis are the flavor of the year and rightly so.
Wizards are a very nice and inexpensive alternative for a Moori.
They are well made and hit great.
Talisman are also a well made tip and worth the price of admission.
I just installed a Kamui regular soft on my main player and am lovin it.
 
I'm happy with the tips I have now, I was just wondering what's new out there that I could give a try that mite work out better for me. I like a hard tip. I need to replace the Triangle so I figure I mite try something new.
 
The latest in tips are layered tips. They came out maybe 15 to 20 yrs ago. Moori is the original, and still regarded as one of the best.

I'm extremely happy with Sniper tips, made by Tiger Products. They've been out now for 5 to 10 years, and are also a layered tip. I've been doing cue repair for a few years now, and many of my customers also love the Sniper tip. In my opinion, this tip mushrooms least of any tip I have ever installed, including moori, other layered, and a bunch of the 1 piece brands (even the rock hard one's like water buffalo). It also holds the chalk better than any other tip I have installed.

Even though the tip does not mushroom, it plays with a softer "thud" sound, instead of a harder "ping" sound.

The tip is also made in the USA, if that matters to you.

In fairness, I have not tried the latest tips which are the Kumai, but I have tried probably 20 brands over the years. Snipers are by far my favorite, from a cue-repair standpoint (fewer unhappy customers, and customers who come back to remove mushrooms), and a playing standpoint.
 
Thanks for all the replys. I have a good amount to go check out. I'm going to see if any one at the room I shoot at is playing with some of those tips and hit a few before I make up my mind. Thanks again.
 
I really really like my Tiger Everest. Not as hard as the Tiger Sniper, but not a super soft tip by any means, just one notch below. I have played it a ton, and I haven't had to to reshape it at all. Very durable, great feel.
 
I bought some layered Tiger Emeralds from a member of AZ called Benfica and I really like 'em. Medium catagory but hit like a harder tip after they get worked down. Have never mushroomed at all and hold chalk very well. I was using Moori's for a long time and was getting disappointed with the quality. These Emeralds are the answer IMO and sell for $3.40 plus shipping. Good deal! Have fun
 
I've had the following general experiences. I like a medium tip.:

Kamui Black Med. - Plays well for me but too hard. Much harder than other brands of med.

Morri Med. - When I got back in to playing a few years ago I switched from a LePro to a Morri med. Liked it a lot for a while but it started glazing over. Decided to replace with Wizard.

LePro - My Scruggs SP came with these and my old player had one. Played O.K. but not great.

Triangle - One used cue I purchased has one. Like it a lot. Haven't tried anything else on that cue yet to compare.

Wizard Med. - Bought 10 of them on sale. Have been using them. No problems with them. Cheaper and I like better than the Morri Med. they replaced. My standard go to tip now.

Kamui Regular Med. - One used cue I purchased came with a Kamui Med. on one shaft and a LePro on another identical shaft. The shaft with the Kamui Reg. Med. is now my primary player. I plan on changing tips on the LePro shaft (don't like the hit) and comparing Kamui Reg. Med., Wizard Med., Kamui Black Soft, Sniper (which I haven't tried) and Triangle.

If you have a cue with two shafts, suggest you do the same kind of comparison.

If not, any of the above tips will be just fine. Just be sure and:

- find out what hardness you like for sure
- take care of mushrooming if and when it occurs
- routinely use a scuffer and tip pick to groom them so they hold chalk better
- chalk properly before each shot
