Hello,

I understand that these titlist cues were made with a variety of different woods, and I was hoping someone could help me identify these. They are very light, but not as light as oak.

the two in question are on the outsides of the middle one.

Thanks in advance,

First glance I thought mahogany. But the one on the left has grain very similar to walnut.

I've been told that a lot of those lighter colored woods in Titlists are Ipe.

I don't think so. Ipe is much denser and heavier. A buddy gave me some Ipe that was imported for high end decking. I made him a cue out of it and had a hard time getting it under 21 oz.

Could be butternut, AKA white walnut. Actually, it looks A LOT like it. Very similar woods but one is dark brown while the other is creamy brown. It was much more common back then. Now it's rarely even known, let alone timbered. Anybody who had access to walnut lumber had access to butternut.

And I agree with Sherm. Ipe is HEAVY, and usually darker color.

I always thought those were Philippine mahogany ( Lauan or Lawaan ) .
Light, brownish and abundant then.

That is correctamundo on the weight - I couldn't quite Google numbers,
but it's as heavy as Purpleheart or the Rosewoods.

i have a few old titlist

i have a couple that have very close color and grain pattern as those pictured and was told they were santos mahogany. which in fact is not a true mahogany, but a different species of hardwood.
they were so many different woods used for these cues and very few records, i do not think we will ever know for sure. i do know i love the way they play.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think butternut/white walnut, looks to be the most likely based on what I can tell. Or some sort of "mahogany" that isn't really mahogany.
