To Schmelke or not to Schmelke?

I am a novice player and am considering getting a JUMP/Break Cue. I want to buy an American made cue and not break the bank. I have found a Schmelke that I like. Has anyone used one or have an opinion on them?
Thanks
Paulie

Just make sure you get one with a standard pin and not the pipe thread joint. Should be ok.

Schmelke is good honest people and they'll take care of you if any issues arise. Good quality stuff.

I have an old Schmelke that I used as my playing cue for many years. I actually liked the Brass-to-Brass joint.

Mine also has the Leather bound wrap on it which has lasted the test of time.

In my years of running around with this cue many many people would always ask me, "Hey is that an old Schmelke?" and then go into a story of how they use to have one and loved it so much. Never heard any bad stories about them.

Enjoy!

Schmelke is good stuff. They make a fine product. They are honorable people.

I had Schmelke make a full splice blank for my Sneaky Pete. Wonderful people to do business with.

I used to live near their shop in Wisconsin, so my first cue was a schmelke, of course. I loved it. I had it for years, ended up selling it to a buddy about 12 years ago. I should have kept it.

I bought a used Schmelke years ago and added it to my collection of production cues. One day I broke with it and Bam.... I still use that cue today and have not found a better breaker. It has the ugly pipe joint even though I don't think that is where it gets its snap.

The cue can be had for like 1/2 that price. I have rolled many cues side by side that said Brunswick, the other Schmelke. My first was a snooker length cue. early 70's. I practice on 2 different 5-10 snooker tables. Without warming up I picked up a 70's Schmelke, leather wrapped. From a cuemakers rack. I shot 1 handed spot shots without looking- making the first 4, After each shot the price of the cue went up 50.bucks-till I hit 200.bucks mark

Many top cue makers will use their blanks to make sneakies or hustler cues. I have one made by Perry Weston. Nice solid feel.

Wtihout breaking the bank it is probably all you need.

Yep

I just ordered a new break cue. But not from the Schmelke break cue selections. I basically made my own break cue.

I wanted something heavier and liked the customization options that were available So I got it exactly how I need/want my break cue.

I ordered the full bacote butt pool cue. I made it 24 oz . I upgraded to the 14mm laminated shaft and with a hard laminated tip. I also added the "famous" Schmelke joint (AKA: the pipe thread joint) because of its hard and a tight fit.

I add 2 inches of length (61 inchese total) The total cost with my options was $185 for a custom break cue that fits my needs. I don't get it for another 3 weeks because of the customization (heck, I've been waiting 5 years for my Hercek I can't wait a few weeks for a break cue)

I'll let you know how it is when I get it. My buddy has a Schmelke cue that he has been using for a decade or more. I find myself using his break stick instead of my own, and now I'm just getting what he has and adding a few more things that I like. I'll have to change my signature once I get this cue, because I sold my Schuler break cue.
