...it is the first annual MILLION-DOLLAR 9-Ball tourney.

Now, last time I checked, there was a $70,000 purse, which ain't too shabby for the players to shoot for. In fact, it's HUGE compared to most pool tournaments in these United States. :p

Here's the website, showing 14 paid/confirmed: http://www.milliondollar9ball.com/players.html

It hasn't been updated since July 30th, though. :(

1. Allen Hopkins (event promoter) USA PAID
2. Marlon Manalo PHILLIPINES PAID
3. Corey Deuel USA PAID
4. Shane Van Boening USA PAID
5. Johnny Archer USA CONFIRMED*
6. Francisco Bustamante PHILLIPINES PAID
7. Dennis Hatch USA CONFIRMED*
8. Evan "The Running Man" Broxmeyer USA PAID
9. Daryl Peach ENGLAND CONFIRMED*
10. Matt Krah USA PAID
11. Tony Chohan USA PAID
12. Steve Moore USA PAID
13. Dennis Orcollo PHILLIPINES PAID
14. John Schmidt USA CONFIRMED

I still got me some v-Chippies, even though I bet some in the upcoming $25,000-added Joss Tour Turning Stone Casino event coming up in a week or two, right around the corner.

Man, August is the month for pool! WOW!

Who do I like above the best? Man, that's a toughie with these champs. I think I like every single one of them!

Anybody have any news about what's happening right about now at the Valley Forge Convention Center?

Help

I surely hope that there are more than 11 players in this tournament. I see that there are 11 paid but there has got to be more than that in the tourney. Hopefully someone can post an updated players list.

Big props to Matt Krah for stepping up to the plate with the "big boys". He is one that I definately hope that does well for himself.

Best of luck to all the contenders.

Kevin

I wonder if Ronnie Wiseman is going to make it.

He's had two STRONG second-place finishes in recent times, one at the EnjoyPool event in Charlotte, NC and another one just this past weekend in Mobile, AL.

Usually, whenever Tony Chohan is at a tournament, Ronnie is there as well. They are good friends and support each other.

when does this tournament start?

There is a link on the website for interested INTERNATIONAL players.

Here is a little info: While we realize that 200 players may not enter the first year, this is our plan. No matter what, we will host this event. Even if only 10 players show up, then those 10 players will play for $50,000. If 64 players show up, then they will play for a $320,000 prize pool. Get the point? We just want to be certain that everyone knows this event will happen.

See you next year.

Well, if you look further down the page you will see that 191 players listed themselves as "interested". Surely some of those players will show up and register at the door. I hope so anyway.

I havent heard of many of these players. There are a few interesting names on that list, 3 of which I am pretty sure are not going to be playing. Eddie Felson, Muhammed Ali, and Mike Hunt. Havent heard the Mike Hunt name dropped since high school.

I wonder if they will have 32 players total?

32 x $5000 = $160,000

and everyone gets $1000 back just for showing up?
$160K - $32K = $128,000 total purse? or does Allen take a cut?

We should know pretty soon... and $128K is a nice little prize fund for any 32 player tournament.

This is awesome and I think that AH & Jr have the right idea. Once they get this one done I am sure that next year there will be more and more the year after that. Good job to the Hopkins and I look forward to updates. Will this be live streamed at all by anyone? If not someone needs to fly Fast Lenny out there to cover it. Or TAR.

Hey Tom, From what I have heard all the $$ goes back into the pot. I hope that Ah & co get the sponsorship support for this to cover their costs.

Jam, I was just looking at the $1,000,000 shootout website to see if there was a final list established as I'm considering getting the TAR stream over the weekend..... Hopefully someone will post a final list of players before play begins. Any idea (anyone) when play is scheduled to start?? I know the website says today but are they gonna hold out any amount of time for "last minute" entries?? Thats about as good of a 15 man field as you could hope for..... I'd say it's a coin toss. Hope they can at least get the field to 20 or so by the time they start. Kudos to Allen Hopkins who continues to provide consistant legitimate high profile well organized events. When he says he is doing something, he does it and ya gotta respect that!!!

Best of rolls to Matt Krah... Way to step up to the plate!!! Matt has been to several of our Hagerstown Billiards tournaments and is a class act all the way... Maybe if Richard Barney gets to practicing we get a fund together to enter him in one of these kinds of events... I kinda see this type of tournaments as one of the few ways these great players are gonna make a living at the game. Big pay days will need big entry fees until sponsership improves.

It's actually very tempting :)

What if I back you in this tournament, then after we split the dough, we use your amount in Vegas and split the winnings there 50/50?

My amount can be used to back you in a match-up against for example John Schmidt in a long 8-ball match?

It could be one hell of a week :D

I think it is really SAD that there are not more than 15 players registered.

I have talked to many players about this tournament, and everyone seemed excited about it... I suppose that Allen Hopkins would have a lot more of Europeans in the field if he would choose some other dates. The top Europeans are in danger of being blocked from other WPA-tournaments like the WC's, Eurotours etc. if they play in tournaments that collide with WPA-sanctioned tournaments.

Atleast I guess it is still so, since EPBF threatened the European top players with this when players wanted to play a tournament in Spain when Qatar World 9-ball Open was organized...
