Thanks for posting this, JT! I am a veteran myself, 8 years in the U.S. Navy. Served aboard both the USS Coontz (guided missile destroyer, DDG-40) as well as the USS Briscoe (Spruance-class destroyer, DD-977). Saw action in the mid-1980s against Libya in the Gulf of Sidra when Muammar al-Gaddafi attacked our battle group patroling there. (Those may remember Gaddafi's infamous "Line of Death" whereby the US Navy ships in that area pushed it back from Gaddafi's claim of 62 miles out from the coast of Libya, to the NATO-recognized 12 miles from the coast. I have a patch on my cruise jacket with the proud declaration, "I crossed the 'Line of Death'.")

Lots of stories and memories, and remembrances for all our veterans with us and not.

Thanks to all!! being a vet[1967-73] i am celebrating in my heart for i know i did the right thing for my country!!just old mans thoughts for today.:confused::wink::confused:
 
I am glad to see support of our troops is the political correct thing to do today. Anyone who served deserves gratitude. I think many from my era remember a time when we were called Baby Killers. When I came back after serving, the gratitude for our service was not appreciated. Sorry but that was a sore spot with me then and I haven't out grown it.

Having parents, brothers, in-laws, and friends that have served or are serving in the Military really makes you appreciate just how much they do for ALL OF US.

I am greatly appreciative for those people that have chosen the path of something greater, and that have offered to risk Their lives so that We may have a better one. Freedom isn't Free - so from the bottom of my heart - THANKS TO YOU ALL!!!

I know, BB, and for many years I didn't even disclose my military history to anyone, including my family. Lately, however, I've gotten involved with a lot of clubs and groups (because I'm retired; and including this site), and have received the warm support we didn't get decades ago. You may find that will help you, as it has me.

This is why I never participated in veterans day, not many of my friends know I served. As you said a sore spot in my heart also.

I'm a old has been Vietnam Vet with a hole in my heart also. It's a good thing seeing all the support our current vets are receiving, makes me proud to be a American. Thanks to all our men and women vets for their service and sacrifice. God Bless

Yes I even denied being in the service and today I am not a member of any veterans groups. Coming back to world was a very unceremonious affair when it was needed the most. I guess we will always have issues about our time in hell. But I feel coming back to world as it was then is the biggest Issue I carry now.
 
"Thanks" can never be said enough! All the men and women who've served in our Armed Forces are the real heros of any generation. The only reason we have the freedoms that we do is because of all these brave warriors.
May God continually bless each of them and their families with the strength and courage they will need as they continue to serve and may He bless each and every one who ever served with much love and peace.
