Well folks, up until now, I've been known as Tokyo-dave, but next week I will be moving myself and my Japanese family back to my hometown in Colorado. It's been 18 years since I moved to Japan, so for me moving home is going to be as much of a shock as moving overseas all over again. To put it all into perspective, the last time I lived in the states, the OTHER Bush was pres, and the Cosby show was the most popular show on television. I missed Southpark, The Simpsons, two superbowl wins by the Broncs (finally), The Home Improvement Show, Bill Clinton, the gulf war, Nirvana, reality TV, and what the hell is Starbucks!! I sadly say that one of my most memorable moments in Japan was watching 9-11 happen live on TV as I was in a pool room and remembering how angry and helpless I felt. I remember having the incredible urge to just fly to the states.............anywhere. To do what? I don't know, but I remember I just wanted to be surrounded by other Americans at that time. It was like watching my own house burn down with me so far away and nothing to do but helplessly watch.
I'll be starting all over again, so as you might assume, I'm pretty scared but at the same time excited. Don't have a job yet, but will look around as soon as I get back.
I picked up the game here in Japan, and at one time qualified and considered turning full time pro. Then I got married!:eek: I can no longer run more than six balls consistently without screwing myself, but I still play the local tournaments, and when I feel like donating, I'll even enter a pro event here and there. Never played a game of pool in the US, so I'm really looking forward to playing there. I'll be living in a small town on the western slope of Colorado, so I'll be very far from good 9ft tables, good players, and stimulation, so I'll have to look forward to a trip to Denver every once in a while to get a good whopping (somebody teach me how to play 1 hole!!).
For now, I'm going to be shutting down my computer and packing up. I'll be back sometime in mid December. Until then, see you all on the other side!!!:D

I remember how shocked and angry eveyone was about 9-11 too. A lot of people wanted to just go out shooting whoever they thought were responsible for it...but they didn't.

The best I saw was when the movie "Death Wish" was a hit movie. People were going out at night to the parks and subways in NY to look for anyone that looked like they were up to know good. That 6 month time period was the safest NY was in years. Johnnyt

I can't afford one of those. And even if I could, I don't like the idea of being able to open my bedroom window and literally touch my neighbors house! Another reason why I'm outta here!!

Dave, I live in Denver, look me up when you get here. I better start practicing some "1-hole", even though I am 55, and still 25-years away from being able to play the game legally.

After living in Japan (which is the most polite society on the Planet Earth) you may have little difficulty to adjust when you first arrive here.

Welcome home Dave ! Maybe since your new home is so far away from a 9 footer, you should make it your goal to have one of your own, get in dead pop, and occasionally go to Denver just for some competition;) . Anyway, I might give up poolrooms for the elk and trout streams. Safe home...Tom
 
The Home Improvement show sucked! Always hated everyone on that show, especially those little brats....

They have Starbucks there, but he'll definitely like the prices a little better here. :)
 
I remember paying $20 for a pint during the 2002 world cup in Tokyo! Friendly girls though

I'm still appreciative of you answering my PM's on Kunihiko Takahashi and Takeshi Okumura. You were my main connection in Japan. Since Scott "The Shot" Smith and Grady Mathews each closed their respective poolrooms down in Colorado, maybe when you settle in, you'll be the "big kahuna" in Colorado now! :D

Seriously, I hope your move back will be smoothe and without stress. We're wishing you and yours all the best!

Welcome back Dave...imo, you will find the quality of (some) beer in this county has improved since you left. Saki never really caught on though.:D

Well, I've been here since the 10th, and am slowly getting used to being back. In general, everybody is fatter, older, and with lots of body piercings and tattos!! Spent the past week getting my 16 year old ready for school, openning bank accounts, and throwing out my resume left and right. Still unemployed, but with lots of promising leads. Haven't hit a ball since I've arrived, and I sure have the bug. At my going away party before I left Japan, a buddy of mine gave me a nearly brand new Scruggs to take with me (links to pics enclosed) and it still sits in my cue case just begging to be taken for a test run. This cue was bought brand new in 2002, used for two months and then stored away in a cue case for all of these years due to medical conditions that my friend has had to deal with that pretty much ended his playing opportunities. He said that instead of selling it for the cash, we wanted it in the hands of someone that loves the game, respects the tools, and would take good care of it! I feel pretty honored! Probably won't replace my main player though. I remember hitting with the Sruggs when he first bought it, and to tell you the truth, wasn't very impressed. It may end up sitting in my back for another ten years!! None the less, I'm excited to hit a couple of balls with it just for the plain fun of getting to play around with a new toy.
