I think that TK is easily the most likable player in the game. I believe he would be our country's best representative in international events.

The US doesn't deserve another chance at the cup after the BS with CW. Let the Asians play Europe. They would play there hearts out for their country and not be happy with just getting a $7500 pay day and $15,000 if they got some rolls. Johnnyt

I mentioned this in another thread...did anyone else catch the suggestion SVB made in his pre-match interview on TAR? He basically suggested that the Mosconi Cup Coach be selected from outside the pool world, basically an NFL or NBA coach, etc. Someone who has been a coach professionally for years, knows how to build teams and lead people, and can add a well known name to the team that could draw in fans that wouldn't normally tune in. I think he's DEFINITELY on to something here...pro pool players don't need another pro's advice on their game as much as they need someone who knows how to handle complex egos/personalities, build a team and in short LEAD. There are tons of established experts in that field with well-known names, and they aren't pool players.

That's a great idea, then maybe Charlie Williams could take over the Miami Dolphins!

Mosconi captain?

Tommy would be a nice choice. There are many others who could do the job. I know my short list would NOT include CW, ES, RM, MS, NV or AH.

Phil Jackson... If there is any coach that can keep ego's in check.... It's Phil Jackson (Joe Torre 2nd)

Yep, one of my personal top picks. Also like Mike Ditka, Coach K (Duke) and (heaven help me) Bobby Knight...and you thought Earl was trouble!

Coach K and Bobby Knight both coached at West Point back in the day, so I'm a little biased here...

I remember that... and at the time thinking to myself that it was worth noting that he made these comments AFTER the choice of CW as captain was made, but BEFORE playing in the Mosconi Cup. Coming from one of Team USA's top guns, it sounds like they were doomed from the start.

I'm not placing blame on SVB, but his statement does tell more about what type of 'conditioning', preparation and strategy (or lack thereof) Team USA was put through prior to the Mosconi Cup...

Just my $.02...

TK would be great, but if you go outside of pool, look at Fred Couples or Paul Azinger. At least in those sports, they would be used to a similar format of competition.

Bobby Knight!!!

Finally something to get pool out of the mud! Bobby Knight coaching. Earl playing. And even cheapskates like me would purchase that PPV! Putting butts in seats is a big part of any sports endeavor. May not make a bit of difference but certainly wouldn't hurt to have some high profile celebs involved. Bottom line people gotta play real good.

I think Tommy Kennedy would be a excellent choice. Tommy is
first class all the way. A gentleman in every way.

What's wrong with all those guys except for CW for obvious reasons, and ES for obvious reasons? Since we're talking in code, I'd love to see "MS" be captain

I've seen several of these players do and say things on television and in person that caused me to question their character. I'd rather not say more than that. I believe in forgiveness, but also demand the highest character for a team coach/captain.

Richard Simmons comes to my mind. He is good with motivational speeches and can pull the troops together to achieve the goals and objectives. He can electrify the fans:cool:
