Since Tommy's name has come up several times in other threads about shortstops I thought I'd start a thread to give Tommy some props!

Tommy Kennedy is a great pool player as evidenced by his lopsided U.S. Open victory over Johnny Archer in the finals. He's won a lot of tournaments and payed a lot of dues. For those of you that don't know him he is not your typical pool player. He cares about the people around him and is one of the most well liked and respected players on the planet.

Tommy deserves support and sponsorship for himself and/or for the tour he started. JMHO.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Tommy. He is a great person and a great pool player. I thought he ran his tournament in a fair and organized fashion. I encourage everyone in the South East to join Tommy's tour. In the past posters such as the "one" have been offended by being referred to as a shortstop. I do not think that everyone has a common definition for the word. Furthermore I do not think it is neccessarily meant to be an insult. You would have to ask the person who is using the term. Personally I would take it as a compliment if someone called me a shortstop.

I am a huge TK fan. If you read this TK pm me please.

I couldn't agree more. His love and dedication for the game, his integrity and he is one of the nicest people that I know in or out of pool.

and please do not forget his love of the Bible. He is one of the most religious people i know with out preaching it. if you see tommy tell him the tomato man from NY will be bringing his tomatoes to the open as usual. he will know who i am........mike

I also have to say that whenever i see Tommy Kennedy i try to get him out to eat, The last time he was up north and i saw him we had prime rib at country club billiards...was a great meal with a great friend................mike

And is the guy ever NOT smiling? Whenever you see the guy, I swear it seems like he just heard a good joke.:D A real class act, that's for sure. Peace, John.

Here, here!

Tommy is a great guy and always makes you feel like a million bucks!!

Also, Tommy is one hell of a shot-maker!

I will agree. Tommy is awesome and has a very infectious personality. Am I the only one that thinks he looks a bit like Martin Short?:D

Fugetaboutit.

If you know Tommy - you have heard that word lately.

Tommy a shortstop? No way, he's a pro. That's a level above shortstop.

Once a pro, always a pro.

Jake

You've got to love the short stop phrase :D , anyhow I met Tommy at the US Open last year, I didn't know who he was to be honest but thought he was a super nice guy. I got a lift down there with Ron Parks (also great guy) and he and Tommy matched up late one night on the TV table, funny to watch :)

Tommy a shortstop? Tommy is a pro and he has matched up with just about everyone there is. He's a great guy with huge talent. Tommy plays a very tight controlled game.. his position play and shotmaking are dead on. Tommy's what you call a real poolplayer. Tommy's good for pool.

You are not the only one :) I've never met Tommy or even seen him play, but it's nice to hear so many positive comments about a pro player for once.

unknownone,
Just to go on record (as one of those who believe "shortstop" is a term for excellent players and NOT a derogatory term for most players) that I do not think TK is a shortstop. Definitely a pro player who has done a fabulous job promoting the game.

Wherever you draw the line between pro and shortstop; the line HAS to be underneath TK. JMO.

Willie, you are not the first person to say that shortstop is not a derogatory term. Without I don't want to get into the whole shortstop debate again but I simply don't understand this since surely the term is relative.

Would it be derogatory to call Efren a short stop or would he take it as a compliment? Shortstop is a classifications of a players skill, if his actual skill is below this level its a compliment, if his actual skill is above this level then of course its derogatory. I don't mind people arguing about what level a shortstop actually is but I can't agree with this blanket statement that calling somebody a short stop is always a compliment.

TheBigSingle,
I stand corrected. I just meant that around here a shortstop is a high level player; and VERY few people would be insulted to be called one. Many like me would LOVE to achieve that status. Your analysis though is quite correct.

Heck, Efren is probably insulted if you call him mortal.

I DO think "shortstop" would be derogatory if directed at TK.

TK s a great guy and a pleasure to talk to. I can't recall him ever saying a derogatory word about anyone. I respect his ability and his outlook on the game. I will continue to play in his events and support him even if it seems like he wins every damn one of them.

i Have never had the pleasure of meeting him personally but i know he was a practice partner with archer..and when he one he was humble..you dont find that in a pool player very often..he gave thanks to the good lord for the win and i respect that...and him as a player...
