Top 3 best playing cues you have played.

Best playing

Mine are:

1. Omega DPK Aramith purpleheart merry widow
2. Scruggs sneaky
3. Andy Gilbert

Hard to narrow down to 3

1. my 1993 Bill Schick
2. Barry Bettencourt's (GRHS) 8-point Gus Szamboti
3. three to choose from:
my mid-80s Gus with shafts from Barry
my 1991 ebony nose, BEM point South West (now sold)
rigmaster's Showman Hoppe

I hear repeatedly that all cues play the same. That is not my experience. There are many great cues that are a pleasure to play with. But IMO some stand out as truly different.

1) CK cue from Chester Krick with old growth shafts from Lake Superior stiff hit, also had a regular shaft for 3 Cushion that played lights outs also.

2) Bender it was a high end Mike Bender looked and played incredible very accurate cue lots of energy and spin, very easy to play with. I have tried a Lambros cue that played very similar to this Bender.

3) Bluegrass Richard Harris, it is my current player, Very stiff hit this is a cue that you have to spend some time to learn how to play with it. I could have the Bluegrass in 1st spot but because it is not a easy cue I putted on 3rd place.

My Current Cue, Lucasi Butt, Predator 314-2 Shaft..

2nd) My backup, Lucasi butt, Predator 314 shaft..

3rd An old House cue in my rack!

best playing cues

1) Ebony predate southwest
2) 2003 wrapless ebony on ebony southwest
3) 2008 ebony wrapless alves handle southwest

I'd have to say my madden hits the best out of any of the cues i have used. Now i haven't shot with alot of big names out there but i've shot with a few jensens, a old balabushka, josswest richard blacks and alot of production cues and my madden by far has the best hit and feel to it. Jack makes amazing cues and i'm proud to say he makes em right here in my home state of mt. His relationship with a cue owner is amazing his work is top notch and he goes above and beyond when it comes to working on his cues for his players. If you get a chance to get yer hands on one grab it u wont be dissappointed.

The best playing cue I had of all time was a 25 aniv.richard black#2-3 tie arthur cue. And artcantando. Very close4th is my 1985 schon dice cue

1 my deano cue by john nemic of dallas
2 south west by Laurie earlier this year/i really don't see why anyone would think the older ones are better

3 my new schon hoppe style bumperless cue

i was afraid it would be too loud, but when schon agreed to make a few for me
that were so unique,i took a chance based on my previous success with schon

these are by far the best hitting schons i have seen, and i never had one that didn't play super

Tough to say

1. Gus let me hit a rack with his cue that he brought to the Ball Room in Toms River,N.J.back in 1987. Tony Catucci said if I dropped or scratched that cue he was going to beat the crap out of me with his prosthetic leg! That's Pressure!!
2. A Karl Mayer Titlist Conversion that Jack Stillings had in the showroom of McDonald's Pro Shop in Neptune,N.J. I used to knock balls around waiting for customers to come by.
3. Two Gary Medlin Gem Cues from 1992-1993. One that is my Custom Design and another that Gary made directly afterward, that I recently acquired. Gary was tasked with duplicating the Szamboti hit. He did.

Some great ones who are so close I'd say it's a hair's breath separation.

1984 Clay Etheridge Made Custom Hustler Cue. My Money Maker for almost 30 years!
1986 Richard Black Hoppe that I wish I had back.
A recent Tascarella that a friend let me hit with! Incredible Hit!!
And my Dark Horse Favorite, a Dennis Kepley Conversion made from an Oversize Titlist Blank from the Hal Hawkins Collection. Stainless Joint and Ivory Ferrules!!! Awesome

Mobley,murrell,searing.....the best hitting cues I have ever played with

Very tough choices!

List in order of preference please.
Reason for choice would be appreciated, but not required.

Mine:
Blue Grass Old School Rosewood Hustler.
Had a similar hit to a new school BG Hustler but I liked the slightly narrower shaft.

New School Blue Grass Bocote Hustler.
Hit better than any of the 5 fancier BG cues I owned.

Pat Diveney Ebony Butterfly cue with Lakewood shaft and epoxy 3/8x11 pin.
Hit very similar to the BG Hustler. If I was blind, you could have told me it was a Blue Grass Hustler and I would have believed you.

I've played cues from over 40 different and well respected cue makers.
These 3 cues cost me over $30,000 to discover

Very difficult to say which are the best, as my game has changed over the years, and I tried very few cues before 2002.

In the '70s I had some success with a Viking Z90.

Had more success in the '80s with a 1977 Meucci Larry Hubbart LH-1.

Came out of retirement in '91 with a low $ Huebler, then had my best years ('91-95) with a 1988 Meucci SP (stolen in '95).

Came out of retirement again with a Frey SP, followed by several older Hueblers.

Began trying Predator shafts in 2004; Huebler/314, Pechauers and Pech/314 combos.

Currently using an '87 Joss with a 314.

I love SPs, my favorites being the old MO-1, the Frey, the original Pred SP and the Pechauer SP.

I also have several Abe Rich cues that play very nicely, especially with 314, OB and Tiger shafts.

This one house cue I wish I had stolen at the time to make a player:cool:
