Thank's for sharing!

Is this at the end of the season?

Quite a huge difference between Mike and the second..
He really did dominate, did he?

That's nothing to be ashamed of. I wish I had played 8 of them. It would be an honor to lose to 8 of them. :)

Thanks TX Poolnut. It wasn't an honor right after I played them, but it is now:) Johnnyt

I have played only 1 of them, did lose money, but not all of the sets...

Mike Sigel won more than 100 000 $ in 1987, something that most of the pros today will never achieve in one year... And 100 000 $ was worth a lot more than 100 000 $ in 2008...

Just to compare, this is from 2003. (Just picked a random year)

Some more players making 100 000 and Keith McCready actually have improved from 27th to 26th :) (2003 list top 30, not 32)

Top 10 in 1987 and top 10 in 2003: Efren Reyes (7th and 3rd) and Earl Strickland (2nd and 10th)

Jose Parica $75,670
Jeremy Jones $55,485
Rodney Morris $53,475

The only name I don't recognize is Robert Williams. Who is he? Where did he go? Anyone know him? Still around?

How about their performances after this season?

Strickland - 3 time world champion/5x US Open Champion.
Sigel - brought us the IPT :-) :-(
Hubbart/Bell - Founded the APA
Pat Fleming - founded Accu-Stats
Allen Hopkins - Super Billiard Expo and more.
Mike Zuglan - Joss Tour
Grady Matthews - Promoted numerous world class events.
Kim Davenport - Invented Target Pool
Efren Reyes - Went on to become the greatest player.
Ray Martin - 99 Critical Shots one of the best instruction books ever.
Steve Mizerak - Senior Tour - Mizerak Cues - Instruction
Jimmy Reid - Instruction and insight.

All these guys have given back much to the game and some continue to. I applaud them all for doing so much for the game we love.

John

Being ranked nr 2 to and 10 in 1987 gave 32000 and 14000 $, in 2003 the same spots were worth 118000 and 42000. Nr 1 spot increased from 102 000 to 130 000 in those 15 years.

So why do top 10 make more money in 2003 compared to 1987? More tournaments? Tournaments pay more of the field? My understanding is that 10 000 $ first price was normal in the 80's, but are unfortunately not so common these days. True?

Yeah, but this list from -87 may only have the PBA -tour's prizes. There might have been other tournaments with (nice) prize moneys on top of that. (dunno about it though, just a guess..)

You are probably correct. But, AZB Money Rank is not up to date either, for example I guess that no eurotour's are included on the 2003 list, and I wouldn't be surprised if lots of smaller tournaments with 2000 $ first price etc are not included either.

So payouts missing from both 1987 and 2003...

Would be nice to have complete tournament-stats from all tournaments pro players competed in...

There were a few threads about Bobby not too long ago. There were rumors that he had died - not sure if they were true r not. I believe he was heavily into racing (NASCAR) and he doesn't play anymore.

He won an event in the Carolinas back in the late 1980's, defeating Grady in the final.

The effect of the Color of Money had not taken yet, and prize money would begin to soar after this. Too bad pool could not do more with the effect that the Color of Money had on the game.

Steve Mizerak was quoted in about 1988 "If pool doesn't make it now it probably never will."

I played 22 of the above players and beat 8 of them, and lost to most of the one's I beat on more than one occasion.
