Three local Vancouver Canada boys are playing in the IPT.Being from Vancouver,I will of course be rooting for them.

Here's the groups they are in:

Group 19
Robert MCKENNA
John WIMS
Shane VAN BOENING
Thorsten HOHMANN
Michael VIDAS


Group 32
Tyler EDEY
Paul POTIER
Kim DAVENPORT
Jason MILLER
Steve MOORE


Group 40
Stan TOURANGEAU
Leil GAY
Scotty TOWNSEND
Nick VAN DEN BERG
Tony CROSBY


Out of the three above,who do you think will go the farthest in this tourney?Also who is in the toughest grouping?

ps. Can anyone please comment on how good Steve Moore is, in Potier's group?Thanks.
 
Steve is a really solid, accomplished player.
Stan probably has the toughest group, but I think he will go the farthest of the three.:cool:
 
Mike Vidas is probably playing the hottest right now as I hear he was running a lot of racks when he recentley won the last qualifier.

Stan and Paul have experience(over Mike) having both won more than a few eight ball tourneys. Should be intresting to see how they can match up against the worlds best.

Stan's top notch on a bar table and it should be intresting how he adapts to the slow cloth of the IPT.

I believe that rj covered it pretty well.

And I also believe that Mike can actually win Group 19... and that he will get further than Paul and Stan... no disrespect to either of them but Mike's been playing very strong of late.

Top of the group is what I have in mind. I realize it's a bold predicition but I stand by it.
 
I would have to say Hohmann would be the favourite in Mike Vidas's group and don't underestimate Rob Mckenna who has won a world 8 ball championship of some kind.Basically for me it wasn't about winning the top of their groups, but more about who would go the furthest in the tourney.

As far as betting on one player to win a group, I would think that would be a silly bet at least mathematically.Basically one would be betting that their one player would beat four others.

So many of the groups contain 2,3 or even more quality players that it can be a crapshoot depending on who's breaking well and hot at the moment.Having said that, I think Mike Sigel has a good chance to win his group, as his competition seems the lowest, with the exception of our beloved Queen Rakmsucker who will kick his butt. :p

Potier's group is very strong. He will do well to get in the top three. But Paul is a good tournament player. Stevie Moore is one of the best players on the East Coast.

Mike appears to be in the best group to advance, but he must play well to make it with Thorsten and Shane.

To me, Stan has the best chance of these three to go somewhere. His Eight Ball game is very strong. But that is also no soft draw. Nick is the class of the group, but all the others play well. I rate Stan equal to or above the other three. Again, if he is on his game, and not to awed by the whole shebang, Stan could make waves. This first round is the key for him.

I think Mikes group is probably the toughest out of the three, rob is an ex 8 ball world champion and big money player, thorsten and svb we all know about and wimms is the current oceana champion who will be playing in this years challenge of champions and just took a few sets off bustamante and a few other filipinos while warming up in Manila ;)

Just goes to show, so many unknowns its going to be very interesting...
 
Groups

I orginally though Vidas group was the easiest, but I must admit a complete lack of knowledge about Wims and McKenna, so, I guess, I need to rethink the groups some.

I also thought Stan was in the tougest group orginally. For some wierd reason, I thought Stan looked like this mostly bald actor (in movies with Qarantino a lot), so I got quite a shock when I really saw what he really looks like on his IPT bio .... lol
 
Tyler Edey is also from Calgary. And don't forget Edwin Montal is from CN as well. I figure all the Canucks to do well.

Tyler has been struggling a little, because he has tried to change a few things in his game.

I definitely think Michael will advance the furthest mostly because of his group placing. I think Potier has a good chance to advance out of his group as well provided he bring his "A" game and nothing less. Stan's group is probably the toughest and he will have to play remarkable to advance.
 
not my favorite player but i think paul potier will do the best in that group. i didn't see edwin montel's group but he is a force to be reckon with in whichever group he's in.

Ryan Keller
Edwin Montal
Markus Juva
Markus Chamat
Arturo Rivera

This is a pretty tough group, with the two Euro-tour winners in it but Edwin should be able to advance.

Paul is about 20 years past his prime and has no chance to get out of his group.

That Efren should be 20 years past his prime, others would say he is at the peak of his prime, it's all relative, but yes, I think Pool does favor the younger players more until they run into a cagey old man .... lol

It has nothing to do with age....it has to do with his playing ability. 20 years ago Paul was a player, not a champion player, but a player. Now he is less than that. In fact, about that time he came to St Louis & played Ed Libby, a former Missouri 9 ball champion. They played $20 a game & Ed bar b qued him to humiliation. I never thought much of his game and don't see how you can play when all you use is high english as Paul does.

I sent Paul an email of your quote and it obviously motivated him.:D ;)

Only kidding.

Paul actually could have won three because he had Steve Moore up 7-4, before losing 8-7. His other loss was a respectable 8-6 loss to Tyler Eddy.
He was in every match and definitly not over matched within this group as he advances.
